It is Like Cheating - Make a Panel Quilt - Beginner Friendly

A panel quilt is just what you would think. It is a quilt that is made using a fabric panel. It is almost like cheating because a large portion of your quilt is done before you even start. Making a panel quilt is not as easy as it sounds though because coming up with a design to go around the panel can be a challenge. The Fat Quarter Shop has removed that challenge for us by providing a free pattern specially for a panel quilt. I am going to loosely use their pattern to make a panel quilt using the Spirited collection from Northcott and a couple extra fabrics. And if you're worried about cheating - don't. Once you see the final product, it won't matter because the right panel just blends into the quilt as if it were meant to be there.
If you are new to quilting, this panel quilt is for you. You get to learn the technique of piecing, but you won't be overwhelmed because part of the quilt is already done.

I bought a remnant of a farm scene from Walmart for 3.00 dollars. I am just learning how to quilt, so I thought this would be a good easy project for a beginner. I found some co ordinating strips at the Dollar Store for 5.00 dollars. I figure by the time I add the back piece and batting, The whole project should cost me about 20 dollars.

How very clever of you. I just love this Kentucky horse quilt. I would be proud to put it on my bed. Those meightered border's came out really well. I think it's going to take me a while to do them right, myself. "The Kentucky Horse is Off and Running" That's what I would name your quilt. I try to name all my quilt's. I just bought a panel Called "Alluring Butterflies" after I sew it all together with border's, I will change the name to "Playful Butterflies". Great quilting patterns, and fabrics you sewed onto this quilt, so rich looking for sure, my dear.😂 The candy of the day should be "Toblerone" so appropriate for this High Class Racing event. Swiss milk chocolate of Switzerland, no less. Sophisticated right, with hat and all my dear. 🤭🤓🤠

April the horse quilt is beautiful. The only thing you should have the horses right side up especially on the top and bottom. I understand the side being sidewise but NOT the top and bottom. But I love the panel and the boarders.

Oh, April! What a gorgeous quilt it turned out to be! I love it! I wish you had shown us a little bit more of your quilting! Jenny Doan recently did a tutorial with Teresa Coates (?), a Cuddle specialist, on using the “fleece” backing for the binding! It would be worth your time to watch it! You did a great job on the mitered borders! I kept expecting you to introduce your guest. It looked like she was making a floral project! My chocolate of choice is Reese’s Thins!

I LOVE panels! Just finished Wee Ones for our 2nd grandson coming last of June! Love the whole yard panels but also the smaller squares-like you did a video on Roman Holiday pattern. Stunning. Blends so well but particularly love your instruction and the close ups as always. I recently watched a video where you match up the corners so they all blend as if you did one long strip. about 5 weeks ago I did my first mitered corner using "border" fabric. I too came up short but it was because I wasn't thinking when I put the bottom on...lol can you guess??? yep I was sewing it on to have my fishes going across looking at me right side in the ocean... HaHaHa. of course silly, the top colors didn't match.. duh! rip it was the next step, so I had the wrong angle to connect, well of course I had already cut it.... I didn't even notice until it was hanging on the wall to final measure. It all works out in the end, I told my LAQ to have at the whole border as she saw fit before the binding.. I've only ever done 1 other mitered corner and that was NOT a border stripe. BTW that horse is gorgeous.
