When July's military coup failed in Turkey, the country’s president wasted no time in blaming followers of Fethullah Gulen. But to what extent are the group behind it? Ercan Karakoyun, the director of Gulen’s movement in Germany, is Conflict Zone’s guest this week. #dwZone

After seeing Mr Kalins interview, i came across this one. My words for akp-tied followers is : i want to believe that, you are now aware that Tim is not enemy of Turkey or akp or erdogan. What he is doing is being a real journalist. So it is better to understand that the world is not enemy of yours !!!

We can never ACTUALLY know that Tim is against the Erdogan administration or Turkey. But what we can at least say is that Tim HAS GOT TO listen to the answers to his own questions. He’s a great interviewer most likely the best I’ve seen but in my opinion there is a difference between a journalist and an interviewer. When a journalist is interviewing someone he should not be biased, he/she should not have any opinions at the time. They should be looking for FACTS and facts only but that is not what Tim does. Maybe that’s the reason he’s great at what he’s doing and I’m just wrong idk 😂

I remember very well that in national exam for university entrance in Afghanistan, when cheating was rampant in our times and now considerably reduced, my friends and I listened to advices of our teachers and avoided even to chat one question. The result was spectacular: lots of us got the best results. I ranked 26th in an exam attende by tens of thousands. My friends ranked better.

Ercan started with lie since he calls their activities as “hizmet / service.” And he talks about “transparency” without his red face skin. Whereas then he had to confess about “infiltration / movement in the vein” and “fabricated evidences”. Think that the team consisting of 20 official people mostly from police department goes into opponent party leader Deniz Baykal’s home and places hidden camera and records his illegal love affairs and allegedly all those would be happened without Gulen’s instruction. They stole the questions of institutional hiring exams and distributed to Gulen’s disciples. Those are documented and proved. This was the first step to the 15 July military coup attempt. To build perception and show their activities as legal, they initially seized the management of the opponent party CHP. And today he blamed that chp was responsible for the armed coup attempt. Most probable is already the questions were prepared by them themselves. He also talks about 15000 pages of democratic advises. Their qualified skill is to kill one or send to jail even by producing fabricated evidence and then sit back and cry as in Deniz Baykal video event. After Baykal resigned he gave his compliments to Gulen. That was a real comedy but who knows may be Gulen talked about the other part of the videos and Baykal is blackmailed too. In the past they are the responsible for the unidentified murders as in the Hrant Dink and Uğur Mumcu assassination. And he talks about “hizmet / service movement” yes “hizmet” but to USA/CIA as in their residence near by Pentagon. We talking about the gang and simple crime army budgeted by 80 billion assets. They are able to fund the USA parliament candidates like Hilary Clinton and others. His residence is located about 4 million square meters field at the USA and their members’ salary is secret. Their all life style are in luxury. And furthermore they are busy with tax evasion by organizing false documents. Gulen was always free whenever the coups had been happened in Turkey. Ercan says that the coup is attempted by Kemalist. However Adil Öksüz who is Gulen’s civil Imam is nailed at the military base. And Öksüz and Kemal Batmaz (he is civil and was in the air base at coupe night all videos issued and jailed still today) were displayed together at the airport several times and during their journey to USA to visit Gulen. All of those were happened without Gulen’s information??? Today In Turkey all the Gulen’s disciples show activities in chp and they all shouting that “we are Mustafa Kemal’s soldiers” although Ercan blames the Kemalists as they are the responsible for the military coup attempt. Ercan is also talks about the oligarchy. You should image the oligarchy in a country all military members are from either Kemalist or Gulen’s disciples. In the past they are the responsible too for the pressure on Kurdish minority. Since the mostly all the people who supports AKP were fired from army and only Kemalists and Gulen’s disciples were remained. And they were used to talking about the dictatorship of the government in spite of that army and we see the results in 15 July 2015 about 250 martyrs and 2200 wounded. The other comedy is now chp the opponent party and Gulen act together in fact that is more true to say Gulen controls and manage the chp however Ercan say the responsible for the coup attempt is the opponent party but our senior comedian the opponent party leader who is evocated after Baykal video cassette operation also claims that the AKP / Erdoğan is the responsible for the coup. Think that this comedian Kemal had said before several months ago from the coup that Erdoğan would escape off Turkey and we would bring him and judge him. I mean Kemal had have already been aware of coup several months ago so he was at the airport that coup night. Ercan also says that we do not trust the law whereas Adil Öksüz who is the Gulen’s highest rank civil Imam is released by the judge who was also Gulen’s disciple. Not only army but also other institutions were under control of Gulen so do you understand what kind of dictator government we have.?????????

Why do you never allow people to answer the questions you ask? This is how your interviews go all the time: You ask a question and the moment the guest opens his/her mouth, you just shut him/her up. You know what? What you are doing is not an interview. Rather, it is an interrogation. Whatever...

Mr. Sebastian, being the sophisticated journalist he is, prefers to take one single decontextualized remark of Mr. Gulen instead of hundreds of pages Gulen has written on the necessity of democracy and human rights. In muslim world, when a scholar defends democracy, there are ignoramous people ready to excommunicate him.Yet, he accepted all the risk in favor of truth, a reality that lots of my westerner fellows would overlook.

Because there is no justice in Turkey. Not many real judges or lawyers. Everyone is scared from Erdogan. Let’s say Gulen come to Turkey and after trial the judge says there no direct order from gulen for the coup attempt. What do you think will happen to that judge? Do you think there is a judge can do his job properly during gulen trial. 6 years ago one of Gulens journalists hidayet karaca was jailed. After a few months the judge released the Karaca however Karaca was not released and the judge’s wife(college professor) was fired and then the judge was jailed. Most people in Turkey do not believe existence of justice in Turkey.

The interviewer obviously cherry picked a lot of negative reports and allegations and ignored all the positives which is fine. But the real problem here is that the interviewer does not even let the person finish his sentence at all. He interrupts him constantly and cuts chase to the next accusation, pitching his voice a lot of times to supress the interviewed. Ask all the hardest questions but this is not how an interview is done. I hope you read this. What a shame…

Very interesting interview. Your guest is perfectly believable. Mr. Sebastian reaches far to make connection between Gulen organization and coup attempt. He hopes to create the idea that it was centrally organized. I’m not convinced. The guest made no justification for violations, even for Gulen. He continues to say.....there are millions of followers, it is not our objective to sensor them. How many times does he need to say that? He says we support freedom of speech, freedom of thought, also we have made some errors of judgement. Our intention is democracy. Turkey doesn’t have strong democracy now. I’m not naive, perhaps Gulen would become the new “strong man” of Turkey if the coup had been more successful. Good chance. Many wolves in sheep’s clothing roaming, collecting a useful flock.

As long as they can instrumentalize the power of their followers in key positions, they do it and call it hizmet. When they are not useful anymore, they come out and cry "we are not responsible for the crimes of individuals". "once insiders", however, very well know how things work. At all levels they have regular meetings where they discuss and decide for the next move, you may try to familiarize yourself with the word "istişare" and what it means for them. No one acts against the decisions taken there, and that means indeed they have full control over the acts of individual followers. I am sorry for the millions of people they misled, fooled and used for their own agenda. They could have become a political party and openly declare a program for their vision, yet they didn't follow that path because then they would be accountable for their actions. That's why they choose to infiltrate instead, and follow their own rules and agenda while holding others responsible for things (you may familiarize yourself what "tedbir" means for them). Good luck with your optimism, though.

@@tanerpaker Thanks for directing me to these interviews, but they only confirmed my point. Sebastian was agressive, but nowhere near as agressive as he was to Gulen's guy. He allowed Kalin and Cavusoglu to interrupt him numerous times (not that this is not their right) and showed much more respect to them. I am not pro Gulenist and have no stake in defending him or his followers, but Erdogan and AKP were using attempted coup to silence all oppostional voices in the country, imprisoned hundreds of thousands of people -- journalists, intellectuals, politicians, and targeted everyone who dared to question Erdogan's domestic and foreign policies.

Yes, crime is individual, as long as the criminal perpetuates the crime for the sake of individual interests. If the criminal is kept safe and sacred by the fellows in the movement, if the criminal is whitewashed by the fellows with other covert acts, then it is not anymore personal. The thing is, you knew that you were not right when doing all those things, but you enjoyed the full support of the government back then. You have chosen to leave the justice and to side by the injustice as long as it fitted to your interests. When people around you warned you about the corruptions and other stuff about the government back then, you were number one defenders of Mr Erdoğan. Now you are seeking "international" help against him. I just wonder: when will you remember the God himself, the God that you refer to when preaching ordinary people?
