It Looks Like an Impossible to Solve Problem | Logic Puzzle | Trick Question

Here is a seemingly impossible puzzle. The diagram shows a quadrant of a circle with radius 6 cm. A rectangle is touching the perimeter of the circle.
Can you find the length of the line AC ?
Well, it seems to be an impossible to solve problem due to insufficient data.
But, it's in fact a trick question. Try to think outside the box rather than thinking mathematically.

I found 2 solutions the second one is the one given in the video First One: Since it does not matter where point B is on the circle (Otherwise the information would actually be insufficient) We can imagine point B going to the point on the y-axis 6 centimeters above O (let's call it Y) then point C will go to O, so line BC is the same as line OY which is obviously 6cm

This is one of a set of all time classic puzzles. I first was given this one in an interview. Got answer in a minute. I guess some people have trouble though.

answer =6 The logic is there are actually two triangles, AOC and ABC, forming a rectangle A O B C. Since both have the same length diagonal AC, and AB = OC and AO= BC, or the same length and the same width, then diagonal AC= diagonal BO, but BO is the radius of the circle which is 6, hence AC = 6

Your solution is easy but I did it by considering AO and OC as y and x axis and taking A and C as some point say (0,a) and (c,0) and now and will be root(a2 + c2) and circle equation is known we will find point B then and put it in circle equation and from there we will find the answer.

Did yours. Now do mine. A cylindrical hole is drilled into a metal sphere. The length of the side of the hole is 10mm. What is the volume of the remaining piece of metal?

What is a 'side' of the hole? Are you talking about the diameter?

Ok.. So the height of the cylinder formed is 10mm.. Got it. Again.. I'm not sure if this info is required or not, but It's not mentioned if the hole is drilled from the exact centre of the sphere or from randomly anywhere. This could affect the volume of the cylinder formed..

Thanks Barry for sharing this wonderful problem. Please check if my answer is correct. It’s 523 !! I usually start with lowest possible value, so in this case I’m considering an infinitesimally small hole drilled through the sphere. If the height of the hole is 10, then diameter is also theoretically 10. The volume would be 4/3*Pi*r3… r here is 5. The wonderful part is what is shown in the images on wiki.. it’s really counter intuitive that the actual volume of the sphere doesn’t really matter. I’ll make this video at the earliest.
