This tricky riddle is quite challenging and has a logical answer to it. A dice is rolled on the path shown. What number will be on the top?

Firstly i did by visualizing all the numbers and got 5 in the first one, but it took a monumental effort. But after this trick i solved even the complex path in about 6-7 seconds. Thanks a ton

Also you can just keep track on "2" side. After first move it faces the bottom, then it keeps facing you and then back to the bottom at final move. And here we are - the opposite side is "5"

Moral: to solve a problem, assume it's solution to be X and work backwards (apply reverse operations) and compare it with the origional given problem to get the value of X.

Consider where the dependencies are. In this case the path is random (the statement of the problem could feature any other path) , which tells you you will have to eventually follow it step by step. Instead, the faces are dependent on their opposite ones, so in this case you could track the one you need, not worrying about if you can see it or not in the initial representation of the dice. In math (algebra specifically) identifying the dependencies allow you to rule out redundant information, leaving you with a set of mutually independant equations that, compared to the number of variables involved, may tell you if there is one solution, infinite, or none. Solving the equations pretty much represents the optimal path of finding the solution.

Another method: After the first roll, whichever number is on the top will be on the top in the end because it's rolling back on the second roll is reversed in the fourth roll. Simple.

I'm a little surprised that the following properties were not observed: First, the order of a series of particular rotations is not important, i.e. they can be in any order and you will get the same result. For example, in the first problem, the die is rotated right, back, right, forward. The result would be the same if the die was rotated right, right, back, forward. The other property is that opposite moves cancel each other, So in the first problem, the back and forward moves can be cancelled, and the result is the same as if the die was rotated right twice, i.e. the bottom becomes the top. In the second problem the die is rotated right, back, right, forward, forward, left, back, back, back, right. You can remove two forward/back move pairs, and one right/left move pair, leaving two rights and two backs. This makes it much easier to visualize that the top value on the die at the beginning winds up being the top value after those moves, i.e. four.
