No, no, no, no, no, no. The reason Uline is so expensive is that several times a year they mail an inch thick, full color catalog to people who six years ago bought one bundle of 20 boxes from them. If they'd stop spending money on that and instead lowered their prices, they'd sell more.

SECOND STORE STORY: I’m on the 2nd month of my 2nd store. My first one is an everything store, my new one is a specialty shop. The items I was only able to get $10-$15 for in my everything store, I am now selling regularly for $20-$30. Thoughts on a “card shop”: Although you could have a section of your current store dedicated to trading cards, you will have the opportunity to be seen as an expert if you have a store only dedicated to that specific item, and if you do manage to market yourself the right way, and to be seen as an expert, you can charge more because of that, in my opinion. That is what the numbers are telling me with my items anyhow. Another bit of anecdotal evidence is that I now get tons of questions from customers that are very item-specific because they see me as an expert. No one ever talked to me like that through eBay messages before or thought of me as someone who knew what they were talking about with this particular item. Because I actually do have a ton of knowledge to back it up (which you also may have with cards), and they see that, so they are willing to come back time and again; I’m happy to report I am already building relationships, and have a few regulars! 🎉

I don’t promote my listings, especially not high demand categories. And just because a large about of your sold listings are from promoted listings doesn’t mean it’s giving you as much value as it seems. Hypothetically, if you were selling gold under spot with promoted listings, it would prob sell to the people seeing the promoted listings cause they may see it first. But it would have sold just as easily to someone searching gold in slightly more time. In other words, promoted listings rarely sell an item that couldn’t be sold otherwise, it just speeds up the sale of items that are already going to sell soon. So you have to think about how much did they really speed the sales they helped. It’s not like without promoting you would have had 50% less sales, because if the item never sold to a promoted listing, it stays on and sells to someone normally. For the same reason, even if one promoted crappy items to a high percentage , they won’t sell much better. I treat promoted listings like selling with a discount, it’s what you do if you need money (or space now). The key test someone should do if they have been promoting for a long time is to stop promoting and see if their overall sales change much in the long run.
@CarolGuidi-r8f23 сағат бұрын
Yes, exactly. The absence of a negative does not indicate a positive. It "sold through promoted listings" only means the buyer clicked on the listing you paid for! They certainly could have clicked on the non promoted listing which in many cases, is simply in the search row below the paid one and sometimes is directly beside it. :-)

You may not be familiar with the camera brand but Leica cameras have been used everywhere from early space missions , both sides during WW2 for reconnaissance and Arctic and Antarctic exploration. Yeah - that was my thought as well. Although I haven’t researched that model, I was shocked at how cheaply it sold for. The hypothetical question, "If everyone promotes their listings, where is the advantage" is a valuable question that can provide important information about strategies other than promoting that increase the likelihood of a sale. Asked a different way, it can hone in on the importance of having a stellar seller rating, listing regularly, finding items to sell that people actually want, and knowing how to competitively price your items. A more precise question is, "Of all the sellers who promote their item at 2%, whose item shows up at the top of the search results and why?" Yet another variation of the question is, "Of the sellers who don't promote, whose listings rank as high as promoted listings in the search results and why?" I have been selling on eBay since 1997 and have never promoted a listing, and yet my items consistently rank high in search results and sell well. My net profit this year is ~$25K with 55% profit margin on roughly 500 sales ($49 average net profit per item). What do I attribute this to? I focus on finding items that people really want, having a squeaky clean eBay performance rating, and pricing my items competitively.

I sell used car parts online, some are shipped in oddly shaped boxes. I’ve noticed that it’s sometimes cheaper to sell an item in a slightly larger box, rather than a smaller box with more uncommon dimensions. Any tips for how to be the most efficient? Example - A 14x19x8 package at 7lbs 3 oz will cost me 11.86 to ship through FedEx Ground. A 14x19x6 through FedEx Ground at the same weight is 12.15. It’s a minor difference for sure, but at a heavier weight may create the difference in several dollars.

Sellers, if you absolutely need to change shipping carriers, ask the buyer first. Maybe we picked a specific carrier for a specific item because another carrier in our area always mishandles certain items. (Yes, your experience with a specific carrier might differ from ours.) Maybe we switched because one option calculated cheaper, and you've now realized that you made a mistake when setting up shipping that made all of the options over-calculate. But be ready for some buyers to say "no".

What happens when something goes wrong with a reshipper involved? Or does the reshipper open and check each item, which seems way too much hassle. Does customer just complain to seller like usual? Cause the middle guy complicates things greatly. With international program that middle guy is eBay, so they take responsibility and that’s why they are the best sales, scam-free, no nitpicky customers, etc.
@justinresells2 күн бұрын
I'm not sure to be honest. Once it hits the reshipper's warehouse it shows delivered by eBay so I am covered even if something happens in transit after it leaves their warehouse. And I accept returns, but not international returns, so it would be on the buyer to get the item back to the U.S. I've never had an issue though so have no real experience of something going wrong in this situation.

I don't agree with not switching a shipping service, when a buyer purchases from an online retailer, constantly the retailer alternates between carriers and the buyer doesn't get a choice. Amazon even alleviates this by creating their own last mile delivery service. So this is something I can't side with you saying it's "better service" to leave the shipping as the person picked it. If it's cheaper at the time of shipping, then I'm picking FedEx if the buyer picked Ground Advantage.

And what if the buyer has had bad service from the particular courier and can’t stand ever using them again? Or what if a courier is impractical because of not being at home to let them in your apartment building? Or what if the customer has had ongoing issues with porch pirates and prefers to pick up parcels? Maybe some customers don’t online shop with businesses that don’t allow them to choose the method of shipping. The point is… if a customer makes a choice, you have no right to not give them what they asked for.

@@marklewis3579 If they have an issue with porch pirates it's on them to setup a pick up at the carrier. Not ideal, but that's how it is. I can't help them install security, or make sure they have someone home to get their package. But what I can do is provide a service that is sustainable to me so that I can be in business next year.

I just got flipwise. Do I have to keep it open with the platforms I use so it can pull in new items?

Hi Susan, thanks for your support. No, Flipwise will stay in sync with eBay at all times and you do not need to keep it open.
