This is one of the most played songs on soft rock radio globally. I heard an interview with Anne Preven, she said Natalie Imbruglia is the gift that keeps on giving, the royalties just roll in every month and I don't have to worry about my future.

She must have sung that song a million times but she's still into it and enjoying singing it. Very cool!

Natalie is also such a warm and relatable character. Also, she's made London her home, and has been a naturalised British citizen since 2013. We are privileged. I never understand why Shiver was not an equally strong hit, complete with a great video (as was Torn of course).

The music video for this is one of my all time favourites. Not only because she is so adorable to look at, but the moving of the background sets and her dance near the end are entrancing. And it is of course a great song.

Natalie Imbruglia did a really great cover of this song. I remember when I first heard it and thought this would be a great rock song and then discovering it originally was a rock song performed by Ednaswap and also in 1993 by Lis Sørensen in danish.
@VoxTone200910 ай бұрын
And Trine Rein also did a cover of this, so did Sol Heilo (former Katzenjammer). Ednaswap is a band made up of the writers of the song and Lis Sorensen was the original recording of it. All of these are to me much better than this version. Not a fan of it.

Yeah, growing up through the 90s, I heard this one first. When I discovered the original though, it was quickly my favorite. Imbruglia's version has its place by turning it into a pop hit, and if it wasn't for that, I wouldn't have found the original. There's such a mood to it, I just can't quite place it. It's emulated in the cover, but not entirely.

I don't see this as a song that works well in an large outdoor venue. Part of its charm are the quiet moments that just don't work in a noisy environment. That said, it is clear from this performance that Natalie can really sing, which is nice to know.

The original version was done by 90's band edenswap. They originally released it on an album they released themselves. About a year or two later they actually got a deal with a record label. However a month or two before it's release Natalie's album was released and Torn became a big hit. So sadly when Edenswap's album came out their song was a hit for Natalie. I definitely recommend the orignal version it has a different feel to it. Also early 2000's band Off by One does a good cover of it.
@J.D.... Жыл бұрын
Taken from wikipedia "Torn" is a song written by Scott Cutler, Anne Preven, and Phil Thornalley. It was first recorded in 1993 in Danish (renamed "Brændt", Danish for "Burnt") by Danish singer Lis Sørensen, then in 1995 by Cutler and Preven's American rock band Ednaswap, and in 1996 by American-Norwegian singer Trine Rein.
@thepayne7862 Жыл бұрын
@@J.D.... Ahhh thanks for the updated information. So two of the people that wrote it formed an American band known as Edenswap. So Edenswap's version wasn't the first version sung. However it sounds like Edenswap's is the orignal English version.
@jon-paulfilkins782010 ай бұрын
@@J.D.... Phil Thornalley played base in the Cures Love cats, he kind of stepped in for a while in between his studio mixing and production "day time job". He's been part of writing some pretty big pop hits. Scott Cutler has also a lot of writing/mixing/production credits. Often with Anne Preven. I'm starting to think that Ednaswap is a bit of a "Garbage" band, in that just like Garbage, almost all the members are successful writers/producers etc in their own right.

This hurts my heart. Watch the performance by the person who wrote the song, Anne Preven, it has soul which this bubblegum performance does not. There is a video of her singing it live on the Howard Stern show. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qaazdqGfZqh2j9Usi=7X6hHvhcdBYqN7dD

IMO, this performance doesn't deserve such attention. It's OK. She's pitchy and her lower register is weak. It's a good composition and her touring band is playing and singing it "perfectly" live as a good pop band should. Nice for the fans to sing along.
@nyxskids10 ай бұрын
Ok, I usually only listen to the original version of this song by the original artist, but since it's you, Beth, Imma gonna try to stick this video out. Natalie doesn't do this song any justice imo, but without her butchering it, again my opinion, it lead me to the original much better version, so for you I'll try to get through this. Edits: She did NOT keep to the original's tone. She turned a song of pain and passion into boring bubblegum. Although at least live it's like a candy bar with a few additives, but still candy rather than substance. It's like that soda that was popular at about the same time. Taking a turkey dinner and making it sodapop, which is candy in drink form. Natalie is a talented singer, but this song was not a match for her. Again it's an opinion. I feel all the depth of the lyrics get lost in her candy voice. Also, I think it's odd you picked the only part of Edna Swap's version that kinda lined up with Natalie's version to sample. Still love ya, just have a differing opinion about this one. But hey, I made it all the way through the video!
