I appreciate his honesty and clarity, though it is misguided. The Baal Shem Tov’s method in its purest form was applicable only before the revelation of Chassidus Chabad. Once Chassidus Chabad was revealed, it became the truest conduit of תורת הבעש״ט. This is becoming more and more apparent as Chassidus Chabad becomes studied in a mainstream way in pretty much every circle, while Chabad has never had a need to explore different avenues for its philosophy. As the Alter Rebbe said himself: והיא היא תורת הבעש״ט

For someone looking in from the outside this was very enlightening, thanks. The minute something becomes ‘formalized’ or ‘standardized’ the klippoth tends to harden, to its detriment.

With upmost respect and admiration for the guest His presentation of the Alter Rebbes take on halaas hamidot (Elevating ones emotions) Is terribly misinformed and inaccurate. Here are the words of the Alter Rebbe. Nor should he be so foolish as to engage in “ Elevation of the middot” of the Foreign thoughts, Tanya chapter 28. The guest here seems to think that this is the Alter Rebbes take on Halaas Hamidos in general However, a quick Basic look at the words imply that the Alter Rebbe is specifically talking about foreign thoughts during prayer and service of G-d. (And not to elevate the emotions of those thoughts during service) For anyone that studies the Alter Rebbes most extensive work likkutei Torah Will know that this subject is dealt with hundreds, if not, thousands of times at great lengths. They are the alter rebbe echoes, the Baal Shem tovs teaching and like always with a Chabad touch AKA More expounded, elucidated And Crystallized.

Very honest opinion, but the statement was way too broad with almost no sources and or proper explanations with understanding the full depth of the history and teachings of these two great luminaries
