Saw a scenario similar to this off the Maine coast back in the late 1960’s. A guy tried to show his buddy how a Land Rover could swim out to an island at low tide. He drove across the beach, thru a tide water river onto a rock causeway. He made it to the island and turned around successfully. His return trip apparently wasn’t at the same spot where he had crossed. Or, he fiddled around on the island too long and the tide started coming back in. Driving back he buried the right front wheel in the quicksand at the bottom the river and went no further. They abandoned the vehicle for the night. The tide went completely over the Land Rover, so much so that my dad sailed his sailboat which had a 36” pivot board right over it without touching the roof. Low tide came around and a tow truck couldn’t budge it, although tow trucks weren’t nearly as sophisticated back then or one wasn’t available. It required a bulldozer to yank it free. BTW, good video. 👍

What do you use to treat your trucks against rust from driving in salty conditions aka the beach?
@makingtechsense1262 жыл бұрын
Many years ago I took a minivan onto the beach at Long Beach. I was super stressed and anxious the entire time. I was so careful and knew that one mistake would get me stuck. In fact, I almost did get stuck in some loose sand but made it out. I've not repeated that stupidity since, because as you wrote in the description; don't do it if you can't afford to lose your vehicle.

I can remember a number of years ago when I lived up in Oregon there was a salesman at the dealership I worked for that broke the rules and took a car off of the used car lot and drove it to the beach for the day. Apparently he thought no one would notice. Unfortunately for him the car got stuck in sand and went underwater as the tide came in. Needless to say that was his last day of work.

Back around 1988 my wife and I were on the Washington coast for a couple of days. we stayed in a condo right on the waterfront. We went out for dinner, and when we came back, we could see a light flickering in the surf. By now is dark so we went out to investigate. It was a full size club cab 1 ton ford that was in a river crossing much like this one. There was contractor hired to reroute the river and it was his truck. His son took it for a little drive on the beach and got it stuck in the river and could not get it out. The next day the contractor came with his clam shell excavator, wrapped a couple of chains around the axles (it was bell side up at this point) and pulled it from its crave and cared it off. P.S. it was brand new.

is there a problem with the winch i would think it would straight pull the truck out. i m not sure what size winch you have i have a twin boom Homes 500 which has 2 20,000lb gear drive pto winches which will break cable easily before it stalls figured your dead pull was about same size wrecker

I can't believe Ole Dead pull stood still on this one. The suction, depth of the truck and the amount of sand that had to be in it was a tremendous amount of pull. Knowledge was the key here, between the pulling and the jacking of the boom. Dead pull has some good footing like it was anchored to the sand.

@HILLAUTOBODY2 жыл бұрын
found a dead spot on the ignition switch . At a certain point when turning the key it would crank but not supply power to the coil . Go figure something that simple would be such a pain in butt to find .
@orangepickel22 жыл бұрын
@@HILLAUTOBODY it's always the last thing that you checked that is the culprit. Family 64 Ford falcons when it was about 15 years old; I was driving it one day and it just quit running I had to pull off the side of the road about 20 minutes later I finally got us to start 15 minutes later stop running. Well I've actually got it back to the house I was only about 5 miles down the road I pulled the gas tank drained yet the thoughts it might be water in it after 15 years nope no water in the gas tank put it back in. Changed the fuel filter, check to make sure when it cranks the fuel is getting into the carburetor. Took the carburetor all apart; no it wasn't the problem. Then one night I decided to pop the hood to start up the vehicle and I hear a clicking sound and I look and I see Sparks going to the strap from the outside of the coil. Found out that the problem was as engine warmed up the heat was causing the coil case to develop cracks and then it was going to ground shutting off the engine. Replaced the coil. Thanks for the reply.

@@HILLAUTOBODY ….lost my ignition on my 1972 IH Travelall on a dark night off-road in Baja California. Didn’t take me too long to find the ground wire on the ignition had broken off because it was being rubbed by the push-pull fuel selector. That beautiful truck carried 50 gallons of fuel in three tanks and it needed every last drop. She never got stuck off road running 12.5s, but at 10,000# with a 390 gas engine she only got 10 MPG at most. I wish I still had that truck. It pulled like a champ.
