I do not have a clue why she drove out onto the clam beds . Her tracks behind her showed she had driven through several hundred yards off tide pools . We were just at the turning point of the tide starting to come in . Her car would have been under 9 feet of water where she got stuck .

I am surprised an area like that doesn't have extremely soft spots like a mine field, your pickup held up well as actually did the suv given the landscape and saturated sand. I can take a pretty good guess as to why the driver ended up driving out there vs walking, I won't spell it out but its obvious at least from my perspective.

The wet sand is hardest. Drove on that beach for a year and never got stuck. I was on it every day. But I also didn't do anything as stupid as most.

@@HILLAUTOBODY Pretty hard to go clam digging and not come to a stop I would guess ! ( never mind its illegal as you pointed out ). Although I have walked on the beaches around Reedsport area years ago as a west coast thing, no vehicles permitted on the beach. The only time I've been on an ocean beach with a vehicle was in Daytona. What I am more familiar with and don't dare go near it with a vehicle is river silt built up with a dry crusty layer on top that gives an inviting false impression its solid and it can swallow a 4x4 atv in an instant, also muskeg ( lots of that in northern Canada's wilderness. Have to respect nature unless one has the ability to walk on water.

The customer's stupidity is what keeps you in work. But with that said, ignore this as it is just another human being disgruntled with the state of humanity right now. I am was an expert at spotting stupidity. If there was egregious dangerous stupidity with a penalty involved...the penalty was issued but no lecture. If I felt I could use discretion I usually gave them that choice...penalty or lecture? It was interesting to see peoples' reactions.....and choices!
