I am way under the recommended amount for my system and I'm not sure if it is only the mud, but my system has came alive with growth since adding this . The other thing I've started is adding dechlorinator /conditioner to my RO water to remove any traces of Chloramine. Hope that helps. Thanx for watching

I can't speak to all the other benefits of miracle mud but in my experience its one of the best substrates for growing pods. I've never had as much success with pods thriving as with miracle mud. And that's with me trying a couple of different grains of sand and a barebottom refugium. One thing that I didn't do is soak it before to remove some of the dirt and dist, my tank was cloudy for a couple of days.
@Davelembo
@Davelembo 7 жыл бұрын
You can never have to many pods. I have a lot now. Even the big white amphipods . Over night soak helped a lot. I only had a cloudy slurry on the top of the container and the water is clear this morning

When my 120 was up and running I used Miracle mud the last couple years I had the tank and that was when it looked the best. I use their reef solution currently on my 40 gallon tank they make great products.

Water cleared up this morning already. I grow a lot of macro algae so I thought it may help replace some of the trace elements slowly.

I'm hoping it will time release those trace elements that I don't test for. I'm sure my macro algae is eating them up. Thanx Spy

I know you talked about measuring results from this. What parameters will you be watching?
@Davelembo
@Davelembo 7 жыл бұрын
I'm horrible for testing. My idea is that it will slowly release trace elements that I would never test for and may be being used by the macro algae. So more of a hope to buffer things [lazy guy approach]
@laminar_flow
@laminar_flow 7 жыл бұрын
So maybe just watch the macro growth rate (via videos of course) and compare, assuming other stuff is relatively constant

I feel so Bohemian..... So I did a ton of reading on miracle mud a while back (about a year ago when I still had the 20G nano stony coral tank) and the question I never really could find an answer to, was if you use MM, do you then stop using any type of trace element additives? What if your salt mix is high in trace elements because it’s meant for high-density SPS in a reef? What about things like the Red Sea colour program? I’m using Balling Light to dose, and it also has trace element additives. I also read that MM can replace a skimmer if used in the right proportion to water volume. Any thoughts on that? I’m very tempted to try some, but I’ve held off for a couple reasons - I’m concerned about overlap of trace elements and don’t want to overdose anything to toxic levels, and also, it’s friggin’ expensive!
@Davelembo
@Davelembo 7 жыл бұрын
If you every see Cruz on a live stream, ask those questions. Ling uses it with out a skimmer. The Paletta method uses a skimmer. The Triton method suggests that you remove it before starting. Calerpa and pods love it. I was told that it does not replace trace element dosing, more of a buffer. People that use it, swear by it. I can say I have had a lot of success since adding it, BUT, I can't say it is the source of my success because other things have been changed and tank has had time to mature. I would get some more but it's so friggin' expencive.

Everything has a natural saturation point... water has a solubility level as well... Nature has a way of balancing elements and the rest is natural. even a little bit goes a long way... :)

How often needs to be replaced the mud
@Davelembo
@Davelembo 7 жыл бұрын
I think 18 months to 2 years is the suggested time. It is best to only replace some of it so you don't lose all the micro fauna. It would be best to have more than one tray and rotate them.
