Great mod & paint work on a Gundam design I hate! Good ol’ Skibidi Crockett! Hope you had fun in Japan. I was lucky enough to live there for a year in the early 90’s. Beautiful county, culture, & people. 🇯🇵

Thank you!! I don't have the MG Shenlong, but very soon I'd like to do a restoration of my old HGFA Altron Gundam, so that beam trident will get some special treatment for sure :)

Liam, I want to use kamiya TS-80 topcoat, are they safe for mr.hobby aqueous paints or should I opt into something else?

Great question! I have had some compatibility issues with Tamiya clear coats before, specifically with GSI paints (Mr. Color et al) but I haven't used that specific combo myself. I can't see why it wouldn't work, though I'd recommend doing a test on a piece of plastic cutlery or something first! If it doesn't work, then grab a GSI topcoat like Mr. Super Clear or better yet, the aqueous top coat. As a general rule, if I'm ever unsure of chemical compatibility I stick with the same brand/product line!

It still DEEPLY hurts my heart that these kits are P-Bandai. The Hg Master Gundam and Hg God/Hg Shining Gundam usually sell pretty well, especially for beginners. I know apparently, G Gundam is not popular in Japan, but still…Victory Gundam was a failure upon release, and Bandai hates G Reco, but those get reprinted all the time basically! It’s just a weird decision, at least in my view as a G Gundam fan. I still have yet to fully re-watch the series, luckily I was really into it my first watch so I actually know I like it! And I think the shield gimmick is more like a snowboard, just because of the absence of wheels and the brackets for the feet to mount on it. Glad to see a custom of this! I have a sincere question for you Liam-how many kits do you have in your “to customize later/currently customizing/was customizing” backlog??? Mine is like…upwards of 10 kits. It includes car models, Gundams, an Apache helicopter, and a REALLY OLD AMT T Rex kit. I am DROWNING in projects!!!

I totally feel ya about the P-Bandai situation, there are so many exclusive kits. At first I thought they were trying to create this forced-exclusivity thing, but their regular release schedule already does that in the west. Honestly, I think it's more of a difference in cultural philosophy at this point! Japan is very protective of its domestic market. For example, Fender Japan's custom shop is notorious for their international sales restrictions. I can't say I fully understand the mindset, but it sure is frustrating sometimes. As for how many kits I have on-the-go, actually not too many! Maybe 5/6? The largest category for me are kits ready for paint, and that is in the 20-30s. In the last year I've gotten better at not buying more models, but hey, I'm going to Japan tomorrow so there's that hahaha.
