1975 was when disco started breaking but funk still reigned on R&B and would watch Soul Train for the latest and greatest dance songs and dance moves of the era. There is a KISS connection to disco because Casablanca was cranking out a ton of dance hits, and then when it “died”, the label took a nosedive. The Casablanca box set had a ton of great disco classics.

I love the late 70's/early 80's charts. I grew up in Australia so we got a great mix of US & UK songs as well as Australian music of course. Between 79-81 (so I was 7yo - 9yo) I had the joy of such eclectic music like Devo (not just Whip It but Working in a Coalmine was a big tune in Australia), B-52's, M-Pop Muzik, Ramones (loved them from the moment I first saw them RnR High School), Joy Division, Gary Numan Are Friends Electric, Ian Dury, Madness, The Specials. Even something as "out there" as Laurie Andersons O' Superman was in the charts! Throw in KISS, Blondie, Talking Heads and the other huge acts it definately was a special time. ...and BTW Donna Summer's I Feel Love is one of the greatest singles ever released. IMHO Thanks for the shows and have a great week!

Topic reveals A Fun era to be alive and maturing. As we all share the same "timeline" age wise, you we can agree on how great it was to be a kid...."Pop heaven" music on the radio, buying albums, reading magazine, sports, having interest in girls becoming more noticeable, and the freedom to go outside and play!.

I became a fan in 83, before Lick It Up came out. I can remember the excitement when I heard Kiss started playing "I Was Made for Loving You" again in 1988 (in Japan I think?) after dropping it from their set for a number of years. Strange to think of a band dropping a huge song for years. Then again, Alice dropped some of his late 70's ballads/pop songs from set lists even though they were hits, depending on the tour and changing trends.

My Dad worked in radio in the 70's and used to obsessively record the stations he worked at. He would also trade tapes so there was a lot of tapes full from other stations around the country. A big COVID project I undertook was digitizing these tapes. They're all here! kzbin.info/aero/PLUhZjTDKRoFju4VMrjkaQ1NBY6m-4jc0W&si=ApKmLx7OXJGrPQUD

That was cool your dad had the foresight to record his shows, there are a lot of radio stations that had interviews with people who would become legends, but didn’t think to save them.

@muziktrkr what was going on was he wasn't an on air DJ actually, he was more a hire and fire GM type. So I think he collected airchecks as demo tapes for the DJs for critique or as a general snapshot of the stations. The local ads are what excites me to hear in context to thr music being played

I wouldn't say that the success of Kiss Alive! funded Casablanca's increased investment in disco. Donna Summer hit it big at exactly the same time as Alive! - Love to Love You Baby was released in August 1975 and sold a million by January 1976. The trajectory of the two acts were almost identical. But it's obvious that one style was more likely to get more radio play than the other, so the promo staff at Casablanca must have had an easier time with radio programmers getting airplay for dance / disco single releases.

For the home work: yes, I was around in the disco era, no, I didn’t like it. I didn’t like IWMFLY when it came out, was happy to hear it on the Dynasty tour, but I was just happy to be there, they could played Rip and Destroy and I would have been happy. Years later when I saw that song listed on ALIVE III my first thought was: ugg, at least they didn’t play that when I saw them in Seattle, after hearing it played heavier it wasn’t to bad. You guy were saying you didn’t like how after a while disco was prevalent on the radio, in fashion and lifestyle etc. don’t you think maybe that was the reason for specialized radio stations as opposed to top 40 stations? While I like cover and tribute bands I’d still rather see band I like or newer bands Plush- who are KISS fans and have been on a cruise, and The Warning come to mind.

Hey guys, love the show. I mention a Kiss radio show and I don't think I did a very good job. Kellys Kiss Hour on Magic 109 on Friday nights at midnight eastern time. Kelly plays all things Kiss and it is very good.

In my elementary school living in the Catskills of New York, in PE we did square dancing….I’m like how does square dancing and PE have any correlation?

I remember square dancing in PE too. I am guessing Square Dancing was thought to promote listening skills, movement, teamwork, etc.
