Because when you want to brick it your trying to brick it at a software level, when you don't want it to brick its bricked at a hardware level. Software bricks are much harder and also not as dangerous since it's only messing with the OS, however when you have a hardware brick its easier and is very dangerous since your messing with the very logic that that loads and starts up all the compents like the CPU, GPU, RAM, Internal Storage, Network and or Bluetooth card, etc. and tells the OS if all of the requires hardware compents are there and only then will the software/OS start loading and booting up

Just for everybody's information: I'm guessing that this Wii was pretty old and was originally shipped with firmware 3.2 or below. Otherwise, downgrading to 3.2 would instantly brick your console without any chance of repair. That's because the newer Wii hardware is completely incompatible with firmware versions before 4.x

Okay now I feel like I should tell you how I found out about that 😂 I got my first Wii when I was 13 and I modded it literally the day after I got it. For some reason I thought it would be funny to brick it and then unbrick it. So I semi-bricked my Wii where you can't access the settings anymore like in your video and then I followed a YT tutorial to unbrick it. The tutorial told me to install system menu 3.2.... From that point on my Wii would just throw a black screen. It's called low-level brick if you feel like looking it up. Anyway, I sent it to Nintendo for repair and apparently it was so broken that they couldn't even notice it was modded anymore so they repaired it for free

the wii modding community has been at it since day one with the wii, and the security is weaker with the wii. The wii is overall just an exception, most devices are easy to brick (I would know I have bricked 3 devices 2 of which were accidental). However the risk is still there, so be careful.

I think updating was an issue when mods were able to be detected by the wii, by certain ids. Modders fixed them so the wii couldnt detect them, and so nothing happens

One thing that may work is installing a theme for the incorrect version/region. For example if you have a 4.3U console, try installing a theme for like 3.0E for example You can also create your own theme and intentionally make a .csm that can brick a wii

I managed to find a early model with writeable boot2 (at least I recall that's what it was called. :P) a few years ago at my local pawn shop for around $30. So bootmii is written there it it's writable. Even if you totally ***k up nand, you can boot from that as part of recovery process. If you have an early model Wii it's extra extra hard to brick. You practically have to go out of your way to perma brick one of those. :P

Would you be able to do a video on how to play wii saves from an SD card/USB drive using EmuNAND instead of using the Wii's internal NAND? The internal NAND does not have much room. I can send you a program to run which will change the boot2 version in the seeprom to the highest version number possible. That will lead to a full brick that will not be able to be fixed under any normal means. They only possible way to unbrick it is with DeFuse, which has not been done to a wii yet, only a wii u. Other than that, I can fix pretty much every brick out there, especially with the consoles nand dump.

HELP! Please help bro! I followed a KZbin video guide and upgraded my Wii to 4.3u first before doing any mod, and then installed the homebrew channel it had me didn’t to try and mod. Didn’t install anything else. I had to go and come back and rebooted my Wii and was playing it work a bit but then went black screen! I think I may have a brick, I replaced all cables so know cables are good. I even replaced the Bluetooth wireless module, didn’t fix it. It powers on, but just the tv never shows anything booting it’s just completely always a black screen. I have tried to use the bootmi method of boot.elf download on an SD card fat32 to see if that will boot from SD nothing happening on boot though… is there any method or hope for fixing my wii?
