Heck yeah! Welcome to the 550 fan (cooled) club. I love my 550f because you don’t need to worry about cooling and all you need is snow for the sliders and you’re good!

Clutched and jetted. Seat riser. Gas ride shocks
@djhardline16 жыл бұрын
Having done a bunch of work on the 550 fanners, Clean those carbs, there is a wicked lean spot at mid throttle and if the jets are not clean you can easily burn a piston. For mods a can is going to get you minimal gains HP wise just leave it as is. Spend your on mods that will make the sled more fun. We build baby RMK's out of those. From front to back, maybe new gripper skis, loose the sway bar, get rmk a arms and spindles to narrow the front end up. 5" riser and mountain seat, you are never going to sit down anyway. Then either get the 144" rail and tunnel extension from tracks usa or find a used polaris 151" skid and drop that in. with the 144 or the 151 you can still use the same drivers. For the track i have been super happy with the 1.6" ice cobra for my everyday track. It does really well up to about 3' of snow, i also have a 2.4 that i put on if its going to be truly deep. You then have ultimate vermont baby rmk that will handle low and deep snow. you may want to run the cheapest scratcher you can find so do not kill you hyfax.
@davidk53546 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't change it into a mountain sled, I would go more the Switchback route which gives the best of both worlds. Most riders go the trail route since mountain sleds are not very versatile.

Sorry I was so hard on you, glad you got it going. I lived and breathed snowmobiles for many years. I started out with 1970 Skidoo and after that, I was restoring vintage snowmobiles, everything from recovering seats to studding tracks on the living room floor while watching movies. Oh, eating popcorn next to a bowl of self locking stud nuts, is NOT a good idea. The stud nuts are hard on the teeth. I ended up working at the local snowmobile repair shop and was keep very busy doing that until I opened my own workshop behind my house. Then the gloves came off! At one time I had 14 different snowmobiles all running at the same time in my back yard. My neigbors must have LOVED ME. DONT get away from Skidoo! As I told my friends, when I want to ride and enjoy myself, I own Skidoos. The rest,I fix and make money from. Someone asked me how much I knew about fixing a Skidoo. I told them, hardly anything, because I hardly ever have to work on them. I DID know EVERYTHING about POLARIS ( polarASS). ARTIC CAT, and YAMAHA . I liked working on Polaris ( easier than Artic cat...YAMAHA...no room at all under the hood, too many stupid plastic panels with different sized bolts). In the end, they are ALL money pits. If that gas cap is cracked even just a little, it will allow copious ammounts of water to leak into the gas tank. Always, always replace that gas cap. I learned the hard way, and got a snowmobile I sold GIVEN back to me because the new owner never listened to me when I TOLD him he needed to replace the cap when I sold it the snowmobile to him. I always kept something over the snowmobile, so I didnt replace the cap. He left it outside all summer in the weather, then come fall, thectank was full of water. He called me and told me I could have the snowmobile back because it wouldnt run and he didnt want to mess with it. Yeah, ok. Free,SURE, be right over. Anyways. Lots of great times, enjoy that bad boy!
@hansonschmid95486 жыл бұрын
Just my two cents but I would remove the flames on the bottom of the side panels, they just don't go with the retro graphics on the hood. Clutch kit, gas shocks, MBRP can but overall it is a nice sled to begin with. Love the channel, keep up the awesome work!
@kylewallace26506 жыл бұрын
A little solution to your storage problem ... in the winter I keep my boat outside turned upside down on the trailer since the bottom is meant to be in the water it will not ruin it .. I've done this for years without an issue ..love the videos man look forward to each one ...ride safe brother
@edmilewski84326 жыл бұрын
Your the classic everyday kinda guy who most of us can relate to.... It's like I'm looking at myself though you when you do stuff.. Gives me inspiration to get out in my garage and do things to my sled I would not want to.. Lol good job bro and in my experience just leave the sled the way they come they are made to run at peak performance sometimes messing with them takes away from that.. Things like bar risers are OK or clean your carbs but cans or whatever are not worth it for a fan cooled..
@jeremyl98016 жыл бұрын
Awesome. Nothing like the smell of snowmobile pre mix burning on a snowy day! Great vid brother..
@justinp9106 жыл бұрын
Man this ain't no premix! This is oil injection, the superior way to snowmobile (because up where Jeremy and I are, you can ride your sled from the trail right into the gas station). That means we can fill her up at the pump, and not have to worry about mixing beforehand or in the tank.

May be too late now, but I have a 2003 Polaris 550 Classic and it's bogging just like yours, we have to use the choke to get it going. It may be wore out crank seal which is letting air into one side of the engine making it run lean and die out, when you add the choke it runs again but the other will bog out. Hopefully this helps. Your videos are awesome by the way!
@SwankyCatProductions6 жыл бұрын
I did not realize those shifts were fan cooled and carbed, interesting. Well done gettin'er going! I say don't fix it if it ain't broke, just run it! When my Dragon blows (probably this season) I'll sell it to ya on the cheap and you can do a rebuild series!? Haha. Take care bud!

Just sold my 2004 Polaris 550 ProX in November that I had for my wife. It was in mint shape, light weight and all it did was run . Sold it on Craigslist VT for $1500 to a Guy in Western Mass who was gifting it to his daughter. Had to lift the motor a bit to change the recoil since it was a tight fit inside. Otherwise it was very reliable . We got rid of it since my wife took over the 2016 Ski-doo 550 Expedition .

1. (Most important) muffpot food warmer 2. Hood vents 3. Bar risers 4. Hand guards 5. Aftermarket running boards 6. Suspension 7. Gutted air box 8. Can and pipe 9. Skis Not in any particular order. But I think those are the most beneficial

If is fresh gas but has water in it, use gas line anti-freeze additive. Works for what's left in it. Also works on motorcycles and atv's thst have weird fuel problems. Use that trick with seafoam on my generator and it got it running perfectly.

Good purchase for the money if it doesn't need that much work, but it really depends. I've seen some IQ's going for 2k needing minimal stuff though. Still if it doesn't need much work and has fairly lower miles it's a steal. Problem is it's a Fan, so there's not much you can do mod wise compared to a Liquid. Liquids get more cooling and so can take higher temps and stress. Hence why fans don't have crazy high power. You could throw on a paddle track, and do some weight reduction, can, vent kits for the hood for more air flow, and such. I've had everything from 89 polaris indy's both liquid and fan 500's to my current 2012 Ski-doo Freeride 800r.

Jeremy Rhydes: Hey buddy great video as always. PLEASE clean those carbs. I'm not a know it all, and I'm not claiming to be. But it is VERY important. I know they are a pain to get off, but if there is any dirt, or the carbs are "Green" (old gas and crap dried in the carb bowls and jets) it will sooner or later cost you an engine. If they are dirty, the engine will be running lean. So please, don't take a chance, I'd hate to see you blow your engine up. Trust me I've seen it happen. My Dad is a licensed small engine mechanic and has been for over forty years, he's taught me a lot in those years.

Are you sure you dont have a dead cylinder? It seems like it might, maybe needle n seat too high and flooding out maybe? Also, put the rear up on a support and run the F out of it , put B12 in yr gas tank, it is a much faster & aggressive carb cleaner than Seafoam, also cheaper, give it a try and prop the back end up and open the throttle n clean it out...if you run B12 in it, you may not even have to remove the carbs
@thomaslenhart8325 жыл бұрын
With a nice mouth. Can by GBG AND A 1.75 track will be amazing I ordered them online for mine I only hit 74 on it but from a dead stop to quarter throttle is 45 and the tork is insane and perfect for getting out of the holes and yes I have bar risers for mine also
