Yes, I worked as an Exec Admin Assistant for Goodwill. The prices have nothing to do with Resellers. Goodwill helps the disadvantaged, disabled. They have. numerous programs at their Corpoate offices to teach/ update people's skills. Put them into the workforce. They only hire their clients to work at the stores. There are teams of Client case workers who go out to check on clients in the Goodwill operated apartment complexes. In every county of every town. The Corpoate office staff gets paid from the profits of their local GW stores. Plus all the utilities insurance etc. During the pandemic, many businesses were operating on credit. Not income. Now all are trying to get out of debt and have raised prices to compensate for their profit losses.
@TheNICHELady9 ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment! I wish more people understood how it worked. I hope Goodwill understands the amazing role they play in reseller's lives too! We are all just trying to make ends meet these days and being able to find cool things to sell keeps putting food on the table for many!
@cindyherbold23849 ай бұрын
@TheNICHELady thank you. Yes, Goodwill loves resellers, this group comes regularly and are a blessing in moving merchandise off the shelves. If you are looking for a specific "something" the Intake Manager is a great person to be acquainted with. Oh, and the prices, those are set by regional Corpoate Headquarters. The store Managers have very little power to change them.
@grovegirl-19 ай бұрын
Danni, you are absolutely correct that they have a lot of overhead. But let me tell you what I was told. I live in Canada, specifically southwestern Ontario. I was having a conversation with one of the upper management managers (I was telling her how the store used to be so great but in the last year or so the shelves have been fairly sparse every time I come in. And I said even if you do find something, the price is astronomical for GW) Without a word of a lie, she told me that they put the prices up because of the resellers, trying to discourage them from coming in several times a day and scooping everything that’s good off the shelves. She said unfortunately the every day person is going to pay the price for that. The reason they’re doing it is because too many people were complaining they can’t find anything good or exciting anymore. I guess enough people complained that they didn’t want to lose customers so they upped the prices. I guess they figured people would pay a little more as long as there was more on the shelves?She also said that the store was originally intended for the every day shopper to come in and find great items at great prices. Please don’t k!ll the messenger. That’s just what she told me and I know they just had a big powwow with the GW powers that be because I saw all the big bosses walking the store the day that I spoke with her. It is frustrating where we live because there are quite a few resellers and they do come in first thing and they do actually make several trips to the same store every day. Sometimes they have two or three loaded carts. It does make it hard to find something really exciting these days. Again, I’m only telling you what I was told by GW staff here in Canada. I know that if I want to find something I’ll have to get in with the rest of them in the morning. I don’t have any animosity towards resellers just so you know. But if I’m being honest, I do know a few of the resellers that regularly hit our local GW, and they are very rude when they are shopping in amongst other shoppers. I wish they were all like you Danni. Kindness and consideration go a long way. 🩷😊

I just wanted to add that you can’t even hope to get any really great jewellery like silver or gold or vintage pins of any sort anymore because they have appraisers that go through all the jewellery in Toronto. So basically we have bags that are full of junk jewellery that isn’t worth anything and nobody really buys it. I have found rings and brooches galore in the past, things you wouldn’t believe. Signed pieces, expensive pieces, all that I intend to keep for my own collection. It’s just really sad that they’ve decided to hoard the more expensive items to make a profit. I drool every time I see someone with a jewellery jar or some of the things you pick up behind the counter at GW. Ours used to be like that but no more and I really miss it. 😢

Interesting... here in the states they pull so many things for their own online site! I have a relationship with the Goodwill execs here in Las Vegas and they embrace the resellers, they know it's a large part of their business and don't mind that we find deals. Every region is run separately and people all have their opinions on things.

There are a lot of resellers, more and more every day. Resellers are customers too. I note that the name brands are often covered up. Is that to discourage resellers? If all resellers stopped buying at thrift stores where they can then comfortably lower their prices back down, would they make enough at this point?

Most yarn has to be matched by dye lot number. If you switch dye lots in the middle of a project it leaves a visible line and pretty much ruins the piece. If you find one or two skeins at the thrift store, it can't be matched and is scrap yarn so it doesn't have the same value as those at a craft store.

Personally I have found prices have gone up ever since you thrifrers have become popular on KZbin. I understand it's not your fault it just means people that receive and price donations check out eBay first. Then price accordingly. Over in Aus. Our charity stores are exactly that. Payroll is the manager. The other people are donating their time or are working so they can get social security benefits. I used to thrift but where I live it is so disappointing. The price tag is over the top. Many items have faults and they are expecting you to pay over retail. It's not worth it anymore. I still browse rarely buy. Also we don't have those big stores that USA have. So not a lot to choose from. Could never make a living from it that's for sure. Still enjoy watching your videos even if I drull with envy. LOL.

FYI Goodwill organizations are each independently operated as non-profits, and their CEOs typically earn an average annual salary of approximately $500,000. This compensation is considered by some to be quite high for a non-profit CEO. Also, 82 cents out of every dollar revenue goes to the organization's purpose.

You are totally correct Danny. So they dont care about the person that now cannot afford their used, donated clothing and other household items. The truth of the matter is that now you can go to places like TJ Max, Burlington, Marshalls and find their discount racks and get new, brand name clothing for less than what GW is selling used and sometimes not in that good a condition items. Years ago you used to see the disabled working at the stores. That's how they started out. Now they are all able body people working there. They sell franchises. How can they be called a charity when they sell franchises. The person making that investment is in it to make money, not to break even or lose money. So they can give all the excuses they want, but I'm not buying it. The more shoppers they have the more money they generate . I want to know what their excuse is for selling Dollar Tree items still on the shelves at Dollar tree now at a $1.25 for $3 and $4. Yet the CEO makes 2 million+. Guess like the old saying goes "charity begins at home", and the CEO is taking it to heart.

Danni, I hope I didn’t miss when you were going to talk about your plan for making money without doing any work and I’ve been hoping I didn’t miss it because I really want to hear about your plan.

What I get angry about is the enormous salary the CEO receives when they get everything for free.

In order to get a CEO who can run such a big operation they have to pay a salary in line with CEO salaries, that's just how it works

Macrame hanger. You could place glass or wood in it. Also I was thinking that a nice pot holding real or fakery plant. Only suggesting. Danni, "Thank You!" so much for all your wise-experience in Teaching your Thrifting, Reselling, how to know-the- difference in knowing items that are good brands. Yes, inflation is here. Everything has been rising in prices. And all stores in turn have to raise their prices to make ends meet. Danni, keep on being "Danni." You are an amazing lady. Talented in so many skills with years of experience. Also you have a (good eye!) Please, take care of yourself. Keep on being positive! Moving forward looking forward to all your videos!💙🐦🌷
