It’s Been A Tough Week

It’s definitely been a rough, tough week. Both Cristina and I have been struggling with a bug that’s really slowed us up.
In this video I’m announcing the painting give away that I promised many moons ago.

Hi James I used to paint and sell a while ago. You only need to change more than 13% of a painting or photograph to be able to sell it. If you change 14% of one of my paintings for instance I won't be able to stop you. Maybe the artist felt threatened 😊 Good luck with the new painting.

That’s interesting to know, but my copying days are over. I found out at the time it only applies to living artists. I have this dream of just doing paintings, maybe one day! Thanks for the comment grace. 😊👍🏻

I don’t believe the copywrite issue. I’d look into it. As long as you give it away the artist can’t do anything. It’s if you sell it that you are benefiting financially from copying someone’s art. You also have the right to keep it for yourself. I’m an artist and that’s how I read it.

But James has posted the image on KZbin which he is paid for, it's a tricky thing copyright and if the original artist gets a bee in their bonnet there is not a lot you can do, as a youtuber like James and Christine we've had copyright strikes months after the video has been released. It's a shame but it happens

@chickadeeacres3864 I did look into it and the law is complicated, she was within her rights! Personally, I’d be flattered if someone chose to paint a painting I’d done. While the artist is alive there’s very grey areas in the copyright issue. Technically but impossible to enforce you can’t even copy for personal use. Mine wasn’t personal use and as Nick said in his comment, I made money from the video. Lessons learnt 👍🏻

Feeling better than I was Meg, but struggling to get rid of it. I was surprised, but it was just my ignorance to the law. I was more surprised how rude she was! Needless to say I don’t have any of her artwork now. Lessons learnt. Hope you had a great Easter ❤️👍🏻

Love your work. Very bold. Would be fun to have one. I’ve used other artists as inspiration but when I do I use my own style tho I have painted the odd photo I like from here and there. Consider that rain a blessing and please, don't complain about it. Algarve is being under a such terrible drought (worse than Alentejo), some drops won't kill you but can do millions for the cattle and agriculture as well. Pls be safe, though. ;)
