i'm finishing up a restoration on an early Model P right now, and the feet on it are a bit different than the later iterations in that there are TWO sets of feet: one that sits outside the case on the mounting bolts, and another that attaches to the machine & sits inside the baseplate. Steve Dade made a replacement set for me, and they're absolutely perfect. Give him a shout if you're thinking of replacing yours...totally a great investment.

I have the same feet (foot?) situation on this machine. The foot I mention is from the front of the machine. It seems to be a common problem. All told though, the thing has aged a lot better than I have. I appreciate you vids. I learn something new in each one.

I was recently given a gloss black 1926 ROYAL Model P... its serial number is: P 59737. Its original draw string was broken, so that was the first repair needed...The space bar was not advancing the carriage, and it was also not advancing the carriage when typing. I discovered that if I remove the typewriter's outer case, the space and typing functions work correctly. I am still trying to figure out why....

I have a 1930 model P. You didn't mention that these don't have a tab.

it's also worth mentioning that you should be super careful cleaning this style of paint - the black mottling will come off, leaving the blue underneath. Do NOT use alcohol on it!!!

Say, did you find a replacement for the Model P's right-hand knob? I have a friend who made me a sweet replacement knob for my '56 Royal HH on his 3d printer. We're not doing it professionally yet or anything, but he might be able to help with that if you're not going for a 100% original restoration. www.millerconsultingservices.com/

Thanks for writing. What a cool idea. Hadn't thought about a 3D printer. Still, I'm going for an original knob for now. I appreciate the idea and I'll keep it in mind. Thanks again.

Happy to help! I've been binging on your typewriter vids, you have an awesome collection and a wonderful body of knowledge. Thanks to you I sought out a '51 SCM Sterling... now my best typing portable, and for less than $20 at the local thrift outlet. :-)

$20? Score! I paid $15 for my 1953, but then had to dump about 3 hours of work into it before it could type. Thrift stores can have hidden treasures like your Sterling. I bought my 1965 Olympia De Luxe SM9 for 25.00 from a thrift store. I wasn't so lucky with a later model. That set me back $86. Both are great typers. Congrats on the cool acquisition. And thanks for writing.
