Hi Geoff & Vicki, I live in Crewe and Volunteer at the Heritage Centre. I didn't realise that no-one had contacted you about visiting the centre, I had assumed that someone would have tried to get in touch, but it seems not! The entrance to the Heritage Centre is about another 5 mins down the road from where Vicki was, the entrance is through Tesco's car park. If you would like to come back some day, please get in touch - I would be happy to pick you up and take you to the centre.The APT is currently being repainted and other exhibits are being restored for the 30th Anniversary of the opening of CHC on 22nd & 23rd July. We'd love to see you.

dan b kind of is. And all the stupid politics in BR at the time. Pity. Does that APT ever run or is it just an exhibit? I recall seeing it on a test run when I were a lad. Very impressive.
@ericjamieson6 жыл бұрын
Some people say the tilting mechanism worked too well in that it basically completely cancelled lateral forces. So you're eyes saw you going round a corner but you didn't feel it, and that discrepancy caused nausea for many people. The tilting mechanism on the pendolino is derived from the APT, but it doesn't tilt quite as much, so there is still a small amount of lateral force so you still feel like you're going round a curve.

The Destination kit on the Class 319 Northern units is TrainFX and the reason why 'Manchester Air' was shown is due to the version of the station names used on the system - There's a long name which would show Manchester Airport and then a Short version 'Manchester Air' - they'll be a number of these quirks as you travel around the Northern network where TrainFX kit is installed class 15x too

Really love how beautiful and well kept many of the British stations are. Here in Germany, especially smaller stations (like my local one) are in very bad shape with destroyed shelters, graffiti, vomit and pee all over the place. On newer stations, they don't even install benches anymore, because they would be destroyed after a few days anyway...

Crewe Station silly trivia. Presuming Vickie left via the main entrance and hence would have exited on the bridge.But what many don't realise is that its actually two bridges; you start on bridge 80 but once you pass the horse landing (downward sloping road) you're actually up on bridge 80A which cross the Manchester and Liverpool Independent lines. So the bridges number plate is different at either end.
