I dare say NOBODY has ever attempted to acquire,and restore a warbird to flight in barley 5 months.Much less organize it and operate an airline at the same time. This is the epitome of an aviation love affair. I'd say These are more than aviation fans......THIS is the Canadian version of the INCREDIBLES!!!!

Michael Sakash So much more then replacing parts bud. Agreed not to museum quality but we are restoring her to flying condition. The point where you draw the line is only up to money. Restoring to commercial service is another mess all together.

The most anticipated viewing on the net (for me at least) by far ! . Thank you to all of you who are working so very hard to make this all possible. . Its great to see companies (through their employees) pitching in with their own time voluntarily, together with the generosity of ENA, its staff and students and all of the PLANE SAVERS crew (both on site and behind the scenes) and of course, the Intrepid Volunteers, I feel proud to be in aviation and to share in this spirit of community. . Going to watch the old episodes once more after, may be I'll raise a few more cents for the cause by viewing all of the Ads. . Off to release the "Pause button" and enjoy the rest of this fantastic episode. . (it is exceeding my expectations and I'm only a third of the way into it). . Merci, Merci.

ps - no fuel in the tanks while in the hangar ! ... LOL ... I know you already know that. Congratulations Fred and Pierre, your troubleshooting skills are exemplary. . Stella is meeting her objective, she is going to be the first person in our time to paint the complete livery on a war bird by hand. Great to see Jay on the team. Benjamin is getting great experience (add a pilot's license as well and you'll join the ranks of the 'aviation triple threat'). Happy to see Bobby getting a bit of a rest, he's been burning the candle at both ends and its time to allow those amazing batteries to recharge. . pps - if the aileron lever arm was damaged, I'm sure Ronnie and Jay will now want all of the pulley brackets and basically the whole flight controls system to be thoroughly inspected as well. . Great stuff, great progress being made !

UPS, You're in aviation, you can't fail. . A call-to-action to the Montreal region UPS district manager, AOG ! ... all hands on deck to get those parts to ENA asap. . Its how we do things in aviation (Schedule comes closely behind Safety and Quality). . A surprise Sunday delivery would be greatly appreciated by 25,000 plus viewers of this channel I'm guessing. .

I just realised with the closing remarks that everything, every service has to be checked for operation. Man what a task! It was great to start seeing and hearing systems come to life too and the Vibrator/Spark box was an interesting item to learn about and actually explains how the engines spring to life the way they do on Startup. As a 70 year old person who grew up around aviation, I can’t help but think about the students who are helping get DTD back in the air. They getting the opportunity of a lifetime to work on an airplane that flew over Normandy on D-Day. That experience is awesome to use one of Mikey’s favorite words. Everybody working on this project - keep up the good work.

Incredible. The dedication of your team is wonderful. As are the skills they bring with them. As more and more systems come online the more 'Alive' she will seem. When that first light came on. The first movement from the controls. The first noises. All are magnificent milestones in their own right. When you hear The loud whirring of the starter followed by the clunk as it engages and drop in note as the prop starts to turn, tears will moisten many a cheek. We're there with you in spirit Mikey. Right by your side. All the best Greg

I had to smile when I saw Jay poking around in the underwing inspection cover. Just like him I find that having to wear glasses when you're doing that kind of thing is a total pain in the backside - see how he has to bend his head back and look down his nose to see what he's looking at! Stella is doing a fantasic job with the paint and I'm really pleased to see that she's bringing back the 'Canada white' as Jay called it. It's amazing how quickly she's managing to work her way through it - after all, it's not like painting the small back bedroom is it. Well done Stella!

@DougHanchard
@DougHanchard 5 жыл бұрын
Even with schematics, chasing down each wire is required. There could be corrosion, cuts, shorts, etc. So each wire is ringed, checked for ohm resistance in addition to checking relays, fusible links and terminal points. The scale of the work is daunting in itself. And like they have stated, over the years, wires and components have been changed or bypassed or removed. The avionics team has to be perfect or things can go wrong in a hurry on a 75 year old airplane. Have a nice flight!

Trick for rescuing long unused Bowden cables and other push pull cables; If they have a water/oil proof sheath you can tape one end of the sheath into a powerful shopvac hose and immerse the other end into light lubricant. By and by the suction will pull the lube through. I've rescued some mighty rough/stuck cables this way.

Bobby can you show a closeup of the air stair hinges. they have to be very strong to hold the weight and the constant opening and closing. Great to see the progress being done on DTD. KEEP up the great work .

airmec331 This was done several episodes ago. They are very strong. Problem is the handles where the chains are attached are thin and flex and eventually crack. Also the area where the hinges attach to the fuselage needs a lot of support because of flexing. Remember this was a post design modification at Canadair.

Once they've figured out how to trouble shoot the flux capacitor main bus relay they'll find the bad ground for that distributer downstream from the voltage rectifier.
