For me I thought everything in the Caravan was perfectly fine the way it was except that less than desirable couch pattern(which I would cover with a blanket), I just would have cleaned and sanitized everything.

Scarecrow7 I thought the same thing. Once you add some creature comforts and slip cover the ugly couch it would be a lovely guest house. I dislike the fake wood grain laminates, so I would probably paint if I were to live in it, but as a guest quarters it would be just fine. Oh my, they sanded it all. I love the devotion they give to projects. I would have bought a liquid deglosser. I hate the feel of sandpaper and to do that whole caravan might have cost ten bucks to degloss. I wonder if that press board was sucking up the paint. Sanding might have opened up the paper that the laminate is printed on. The paint might have sucked right into the paper and then the press board. Four coats! I would have needed something stronger than coffee and a nap.

I've painted similar laminate cupboards. I did not sand.: 1) Washed with TSP to degloss. 2) One coat of BONDING primer 3) One coat of BLOCKING primer 4) Two coats of the most highly pigmented paint I could locate locally. For me in California that was Dunn-Edwards. Turned out great and 7 years out they are still holding up fantastic. I have also done the sanding method and those turned out great too. Just more than 1 way to get to the same results. I'm a big fan of deglosser+primer instead of sanding.

We bought our class c motorhome last July in Florida. It had those god awful cabinet finishes, too. I decided to paint everything. I started with sanding and cleaning with water and vinegar. I didn't want to use oil based paint so I primed the kitchen area and bathroom sink cabinets with Kilz 2 which is latex. On top of that I used Lowe's Valspar cabinet paint. Four coats of paint later it was still streaked. I finally gave up and bought alkyd oil based paint and I am only having to do two coats even the cabinets that I didn't prime. If it chips anywhere, I have touch up paint. I am still painting today! Everytime we move to a different campsite it takes me a few days to get into the painting mood. Actually, I'm never in the painting mood. I love what you have done to the camper to make it light and airy looking. It's depressing to sit inside a small area when the walls and cabinetry are dark especially when its cloudy. Keep the videos coming, I love the energy you both have.

The caravan was fine as it was but at the end of the day, it is YOUR caravan and you can do with it as you see fit. Just before I bought the Lunar, I viewed a Swift and the wood had been badly painted with white paint and it looked absolutely awful. TBH, I thought the cabinets looked fine with the original finish, but I do like the white. It does really brighten things up. For the countertop/backsplash area, I thought those self-adhesive tin ceiling tiles would look nice and would give it kind of a cool flair. You could probably even find them in gold, to match the hardware on the cabinets.

Bee, you've done a beautiful job with the painting. I'm sure glad that it's you and not me having to do it. I think that blue will be a wonderful accent color especially if you use that same color are a complimenting a contrasting color on the cushions. As far as your wallpaper and countertops: Google some of the KZbin RV renovations that are online which I'm sure you've already done. There's one lady here in the United States that redid their RV ,and I think she painted the countertops and then sealed it with an epoxy, or she may have used a contact paper and sealed it with an epoxy. She also used some peel and stick contact paper over that tacky wallpaper that was in her RV kitchen to update it and both of those options were fairly inexpensive. Looks great! Why do they always make them so ugly off the line??? Ugh! We have a fifth wheel style caravan that we are renovating in the USA, and we weren't sure what we'd do about the walls and cabinets. Well, between water damage, a layout that didn't meet our needs, and so on, we've decided to completely gut it from end to end and side to side. We might re-use some of the cabinets, but most likely we'll build custom cabinets out of the elements we salvage from the gut job. Why take out the furniture and microwave??? Won't you need places to sit, etc? For future reference, high gloss paint is much easier to keep clean. The walls will be easy to do, without masking the windows, just use an angled, skinny brush and go slow and easy around the window. I use angled thinnish brushes for all paining around edges and never mask anything. Just keep a wet rag handy if you get a bit of paint where you don't want it. Works great i am way too lazy to mask. I prefer to just be careful. The painting came out beautifully. I loved the oak look but white looks smashing, too. You will probably find it is much better NOT to mix different types of white. Makes them clash. I remodelled my entire kitchen a few years back. Looks smashing!! Took months, even ripped out walls and made an island.

Tom Bedlam yeah I understand that and it’s totally acceptable and up to them. It’s their money, their channel, their life. Just gotta remember tho that everyone has an opinion. Some people LOVE caravans and are passionate about them. I’m not really one of them, but I do love caravans as well as campervans, static caravans, narrowboats etc. I have a 1994 caravan and I’ve owned it for about 15 years. Kinda rubs me up the wrong way when someone’s got a newer caravan, and they slate it saying it’s crap. I know I may be coming across as a bit of a twat, but I do like them and have followed them for ages. Just find it a bit annoying as they started in an old berlingo then t4, they’ve found their feet, upgraded and upgraded until they’re in a nearly new van, on their own land etc and then buy a caravan, that some people would LOVE and moan about it saying it’s old etc. I guess if you like classic cars, it’d be like getting hold of an old Bentley, ripping out the leather seats and replacing it all with pallet wood, thinking it’s edgy and new etc. Anyway, like I said, their channel, their money and they can do as they wish.
