Just amazing me how you can grow corn when it's wet. Without hipping up rows for it. Here in Mississippi. That just want work. Seen a couple of guys try it. Might work one year. Hugh failure the next. Our corn and cotton just MUST have a 2"-3" high row. Expensive and time consuming to do. With out it though, any low area of the field will do very poorly. Might need replanting. Late planting is a yield reduction in it self. Most years anyway. .
@lukestrawwalker
@lukestrawwalker 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah we always farmed on 40 inch beds here on the Texas coast. Cotton, milo, soybeans, and corn. Had a BTO next county over, sent his kid off to A&M, came back full of good ideas LOL:) Talked the old man into buying a big ol' Deere Ultra Narrow Row (UNR) planter and putting all their corn in 15 inch rows. OF course had to buy one of the specially modified new 15 inch corn heads too, for their leased new combine (lease it, don't grease it-- they were always too good to get greasy/dirty/hot/sweaty). Course they had to flat plant it, no way to make beds on 15 inch centers... they made it about 4-5 years before they went broke. Kid went to teach ag at the local high school, and the old man retired-- everything went back to the bank and the dealership. Later! OL J R :)

@@ihd-3603 been planting corn in Kentucky since about the 8th of April. About a week earlier than usual, but it suddenly dried up and the ground temps were there. Should be planting beans here by early next week, know a couple folks that already are. If I can get some in the ground before May 1, be my earliest yet.
@ihd-3603
@ihd-3603 3 жыл бұрын
@@1RyanDaugherty Awesome, the earlier you can get it in the ground the earlier you can get it picked or the more drying time before you have to get it picked. LoL you can probably grow up to 100 day corn there. Here a 95 day corn is pushing making it to black layer on time. Lol
@1RyanDaugherty
@1RyanDaugherty 3 жыл бұрын
@@ihd-3603 I routinely plant 105-113 day corn and can usually start taking it off in early September at less than 20, I shoot for around 18, takes very little gas to dry and don’t give up all that test weight and field loss due to it sitting out there. Can get into the beans right behind the corn and they’re usually dry, plant everything from mid 3’s up to a 4.8. 4.4’s a good happy average maturity in my neck of the woods.
