In this episode
We arrive at Cape May and lay the anchor down for the night after getting very wet and cold, what a difference a day makes!
We get up early the next day and explore the town of Cape May, we don’t find treasure but we find a little piece of heaven, a peanut shop, you are screwed if you have an allergy!
We head to a little restaurant in the town and discuss our sail plan to Sag Harbour and the time we think it will take.
We head back to Aequus and take a quick route past a boat that was going to cause a huge wake.
We wake up at the crack of dawn to start our journey to Sag Harbour
We have some wonderful sailing weather and are able to put both sails up
James cooks some nachos and I get to eat a whole chilly and can’t feel my mouth, James decides he should do a cookery book!
We have to motor at 5am as the wind dies. We finally get some wind and manage to sail again downwind
We make an emergency call to the US coastguard as we see a flare go off, after telling us what is happening, the US coastguard doubt their response to us, as they further question the situation. It becomes increasingly painful as they continue asking the same questions again and again and eventually conclude the situation. We hope they are right!!
We realise we are not going to make it to Sag Harbour in time as we face the sun going down and we still have a long way to go, we decide on plan B which is to head to Montauk.
We find our friend Mike on Ellipsis… we watch the sunset and Mikey decided the hill is our workout, likely he will be gone by dawn lol, knowing Mike
Next time aboard Aequus

I would love to hear a 'long term report' on how world cruising is on the Bavaria. How is she holding up and performing and all that jazz.

In Cape May you should of ate at the Lobster House, then got fudge at the original fudge kitchen. I'm impressed with your travels.

I hadn't realized how far behind your videos are! Not really important, but it does keep my tiny mind from exploding when I see a hurricane mentioned. Living in SW Florida just the word hurricane gets the adrenaline pumping from past experiences.

Agree.. figured something was amiss as they sailed up the east coast of the U.S. and everything was already full summer and dark green ;) Certainly is unusual watching reality 1/2 light year ago.

why a reef if there is no or hardly any wind and why not use the code zero or spinnaker?

@@charonstyxferryman that is why we wear lifelines and you can reef just before sundown, if I follow your strategy. During the clear blue sky day I would still go full sail and make up ground

We have been caught out before, we certainly didn't have low wind otherwise we would have been motoring lol... but it doesn't matter about lifelines, when one person is asleep and the other is doing things upfront in pitch black anything can still happen, we have a rule not to leave the cockpit without the other person being present at night, why make life uncomfortable, better safe, safe in mind and beautiful pleasant sailing.. thanks for the thoughts.. :)
