'IT'S DO OR DIE!' 💪 Germany's Ilkay Gundogan on facing Spain in quarter-finals

Two European powerhouses seeking to win an unprecedented fourth European Championship title will do battle in Stuttgart on Friday evening, as Euro 2024 hosts Germany lock horns with Spain in the quarter-finals.
Germany remain on course to win their first European Championship title since 1996 after they beat Denmark 2-0 in the Round of 16 last Saturday.
Midfielder Ilkay Gundogan admitted on Thursday that the encounter would have the atmosphere of a final and was a 'do or die' moment for the team.
Meanwhile head coach Julien Nagelsmann is expecting an intense match which could go either way.
"I think we could advance or we could be eliminated against Spain and I think the Spain coach, if he is as frank as I am, would say the same," said Nagelsmann.
The winners of this eagerly anticipated contest will face the winners of the last-eight tie between Portugal and France in the semi-finals.
While Germany have won only two of their last 11 meetings with Spain across all competitions, they remain unbeaten in their last eight games against La Roja on home soil, and will be buoyed by the fact that no host nation has ever been eliminated from the quarter-final stage of a European Championship.

Ilkay is a real international master of the game -- Turkish descent, played at the highest level in Germany, England, and Spain. Will be a great coach when his time comes. Lucid, lucid, lucid. Yes, as supporting Germany there is no denying in that. I could say that because of all time best Spain (or even all time best national teams ever) Germany was probably denied for one Euro or WC win. Germany was not yet in their peak 2008 and 2010, but still got a decent change to to win those tournaments. However that Spain was really strong and I don't even debate any "if" scenarios for those games as I thought Spain was just better without any explanation. It was pity that they didn't face each other in 2012 Euro final, but Italy did well their job in semis.

Er ist hier geboren, hat hier Abitur gemacht, seine Fussballausbildung hier gemacht, singt die deutsche Nationalhymne und hat noch nicht mal eine doppelte Staatsbürgerschaft. Er Deutscher türkischer Abstammung. Und er ist ein toller Typ (nicht deswegen, sondern als Mensch und Fussballer). Habe noch nie von ihm irgendeine Beschwerde darüber gehört, als Türke diskriminiert worden zu sein. Was er auch sicher nicht wurde. Im Gegenteil, er vermittelt den Eindruck, dass er und seine Familie wertschätzen, was für Möglichkeiten sie in Deutschland hatten. Leider ist das nicht generell so. Manche nehmen gerne die Möglichkeiten mit, beschweren sich dann aber. Bleib vielleicht lieber beim scheinheiligen Özil als Bruder. Der hat gerne alles mitgenommen, was ihm als Chance angeboten wurde, aber keine Gelegenheit ausgelassen zu meckern und sich zu beschweren. Und hat sich nach seiner Karriere türkisch nationalistischen Kreisen angeboten -- komischerweise lebt er aber immer noch in Deutschland. Seine Entwicklung ist bedauerlich. Ich fand er wurde in der Nationalmannschaft oft zu hart kritisiert. Er hätte besser für die Türkei gespielt. Aber er wollte wohl doch lieber Weltmeister werden.
