Well said, mate. Gareth has taken some very harsh stick that he doesn't deserve. He's a top manager and a top bloke and he's got us to another semi-final. If social media wasn't around today we'd be drooling at the prospect of how far this team can go but, unfortunately, fans seem to grab hold of useless analyses of KZbinrs who are only negative so they can get as many likes as they can. Tactically inept, his got away with it. You need a bit of luck to win a tournament too, and history tells us not the best team always wins. He seems to be lucky maybe it's his moment but the subs lark is ridiculous and he needs to drop kane is unfit. Kane positioning in 6 yard box is evident with saka crosses today and then wandering deep asking for trouble. Watts and tooney might get behind van dyke if we can play forward and quicker through the channels

Everyone would have their own favorites on the pitch, and everyone, taking their lead from the tabloids, would play the latest in-form player. The best team is always going an evolving balance of youth and experience, to achieve stability. We aren't the best team by a long shot, We prepare the players we have for the opposition we find, we devise tactics and systems to contain the opposition, and then we look for chances. We don't simply pick our best 11 and then go out and play. Today we saw Saka doing something we rarely do, and that is play off the corner of the box. most of the time we want to 'walk' the ball into the goal, or pass the ball in from the wings for a tap=in, or rely on set pieces. If we are tactically inept, Then i say it's not setting up players to curl a shot under pressure through a body of players. Mixing it up. Tonight we were fortunate to have a talented player who could rise to the moment. That only happened because of the manager's selection, and him sticking with a core of players he has already exposed to the pressures of this sport. We had the likes of Kane drawing the defense to him like a magnet to create the space for other players. Gone are the days of matches won by familiar headline players, The press would have us cling to what they know fails.

The only spot on comment as I read through. It is so blindingly obvious that CP should start over Trippier, even more so as an advanced wing player. Trippier is utterly useless going forward and offered nothing on the left. Everything was on Saka’s shoulders because the left was toothless.

He didn't play that game and now gets knocked for it. What he did do was to take his markers on a dance, creating space for others.

Easy runs. Terrible football. Overuse of players who aren't performing always ends up costing us and likely will this tournament. We're going through games not creating a single clear cut chance. It's not sustainable. We've had an easy run and picked up one win in 90 minutes!

@@leannewarren I'm almost 38 years old this squad of players and there's more who didn't make the cut are the best group we've had in my opinion and what I've witnessed is anything but? losing against Slovakia, losing against Switzerland it took 2 moments of individual brilliance with a manager who's got his favourites - we are very lucky to be where we are but I cannot fault the effort of anyone even Southgate but let's stop for second and think, we haven't done nothing? easiest route, poor performance after poor performance very safe, slow football mates rates fc the individual quality is what is keeping us alive! imagine if we had a manager who could harness the talent into a machine like style of play? we would be great

Qualifying against Switserland is not a bad feat, but England have been very lucky throughout the tournament and the football was pretty underwhelming. Then again the same could be said about 3 of the 4 semi_finalists, especially France.

He was a magnet for the opposition's defense, attracting at least two of their finest, and in that way creating space for the other players. Be thankful he is still feared for his reputation as our leading goal scorer. He wasn't on to run end to end but to add stability as a captain, doing the less obvious.

Tell that to France, Portugal, Italy, Netherlands who were all expected to beat "smaller teams" they came up against really easily. Didn't happen. Two of those teams aren't in the competition anymore. One of those still hasn't scored a goal in open play. I've not included Spain because they've actually done really well and performed as expected
