--In episode four of Money on the Table, Season 3, we explore the topics of affordability, inflation, consumerism, frugality, and the pursuit of happiness. We discuss the rising costs of goods and services, the impact of corporate-driven inflation, and the importance of making trade-offs and sacrifices. We emphasize the need to focus on the cost rather than just the price of things and the long-term value of living below one's means. We also share our newfound appreciation for inconvenience and the dangers of extreme frugality and extreme luxury. Overall, the conversation encourages listeners to have transparent conversations about money and to prioritize financial peace of mind.
On the menu:
Balsamic chicken with rosemary and grape tomatoes, roasted sweet potato and Brussel sprouts
Key Takeaways:
-The rising costs of goods and services are making it difficult for people to afford their desired lifestyle.
-Inflation is driven by a combination of factors, including supply chain issues, demand-driven inflation, and corporate-driven inflation.
-It is important to focus on the cost rather than just the price of things, considering the long-term financial impact and trade-offs involved.
-Living below one's means and practicing frugality can provide financial stability and the ability to fight back against corporate greed.
-Inconvenience can be beneficial in appreciating the value of ease and avoiding excessive consumerism.
-Extreme frugality and extreme luxury are both unrealistic and unsustainable approaches to life.
-Having transparent conversations about money and prioritizing financial peace of mind are essential for a meaningful and fulfilling life.

Thank you guys for always just being open and honest about the different aspects of how we all view money. I always get amazing take away from your conversations. “You can’t bring wages to a wealth fight!” The importance of understanding your own money and making appropriate decisions for yourself is severely lacking in the world at this time.

Yes, this is all so true. I have tried to tell my family members this and told them to stop buying some of that stuff because we are signaling to the companies that consumers are still willing to pay those crazy prices. Go back to learning how to grow vegetables just like our grandparents and replace meat with veggies.

Glad someone understood and didn’t think we were blaming consumers. It’s a two way street.

There's a saying "We all complain when we are stuck in traffic but forget that we are the reason for the traffic. Because we choose to go to places at the same time as everyone else in the same direction." Same with inflation, we are part of the problem. As long as businesses know people are willing to pay, they'll charge you for it.

It’s interesting that you bring this up because we cut an entire snippet of an earlier conversation about the low self-accountability culture we’ve somehow found ourselves in. It feels like in an effort to be empathetic, we’ve over-corrected.

The things that come with those things....I paused and said "preach!!" That's why talking about money can't be taboo it can't be "off the table" (see what I did there lol) because you don't know what you don't know. Love you guys, my play cousins in my mind!

This episode was SO good. I shared it before I even finished it. We’ve gotten to a place where we don’t know the words, “I ain’t got it.” We think we can do every thing, everywhere, all the time. That comes at a cost. I hope this episode is spread widely. It’s such a great conversation. Also, “wages to a wealth fight” *two 🫰
