I recommend putting down a bead of RTV around the perimeter of the vacuum pump before installing it to really make sure it’s not leaking. I had the same leak after I did my timing belt. You can reuse the same gasket as well.

These aluminum surfaces are machined and perfectly flat. The RTV is there to simply fill in the imperfections. Most machined aluminum surface require a max of 2mm bead of rtv. You can warp the oil pan with more than that.

If it was still running then it's probably rebuildable. It's when the rod lets go that it's junk.

@@wellseegarage You know you might have been able to drop the oil pan and just replace the rod bearings without pulling the motor.😁 I'm not saying you can on this engine, but it's possible on some motors. Might not have been a rod bearing and the cylinders probably need some attention anyway, but wouldn't that suck, lol! If you spun a rod bearing then the crank probably needed to come out anyway.

We actually considered it, but like you’re saying all the other peripheral damage/work that couldve been necessary I just decided it would be better to get another motor to keep stock and then build a spare motor for when the time comes.

Normally you don't want to rev a new motor. But this isn't a new motor. But 2k miles of regular driving is a normal break in

how much did you guys get the engine for at that salvage yard and how many miles did it allegedly have on it! might have to buy one and want to know more avg market numbers

Throw that torquewrench away. U DONT do the 'degree part' with the torquewrench! Did u check to oilpickup for rtv?

Oil pick up was clean, would the torque wrench really be that messed up ?

@@wellseegarage if u set it to a specific lbft and u over tighten it, the internal spring can get messed up and the calibration can be off. Its a no-go to do this with a torquewrench. Oh, and always return the wrench to 0-lbft when not in use.
