The fact that its someone who's below 100 subs saying this makes it feel real. I've often wondered if rewatching my old videos was some form of narcissism, but I think this is a much healthier mindset for it.

It’s very rare to find a heartfelt and genuine KZbin video title. Very true; it is good practice to upload what you love to do. While it may get no views within weeks or even years, it may explode in popularity and relevance 10, 50, or even 100+ years from now. You never know.

This flapping, damp plantoid roughly resembles a fleecy blue whale. They have large lumps that flap as a form of communication. They have the scowl of an imaginative ent and look very meek, but mumble frequently. This race looks like they have the head of a donkey crossed with that of a disruptive moth. This race's heads are sightless. They observe the world through a pair of light grey eyes on prehensile stalks on their hips. One may first notice they have void bark, star-shaped pupils. The males of their kind feature subtler ones. This species has dimpled arms, with grey-striped hands. A chunky pouch between their joints grants them the ability to swim faster. in addition, they have large fungal caps on their heads. They have petite, triangular ears, but they are made of rolling folds. This race is quadrupedal. Their legs resemble that of a lustrous fox. This race has plump waists, shaped like a flipped wedge. They are able to ingest saltwater. Their powerful kidneys filter and excrete the excess salt. This race's coverings are comprised of circular plates of bone, plated pointy boots, and shelled backpacks, making them look quite orderly. A local event is known as "The Clash of Laughter" It is a contest to see who can make the funniest jokes. Higher members of society are gifted a beeswax blowtorch, which they stow on their backs to display status. Preserved shoots are a common comfort food among them. You are now breathing manually.

I miss uploading videos to 0-20 people. That's not to say I'm ungrateful to the people who watch me but I really do miss it. The anxiety behind pressing upload now for me is so heavy and prevents me from creating content now. I started a minecraft lp on a new account to experience what its like to upload to 0 viewers again. Granted Im getting a few views a video on that channel but it has a different feel to it. My main channel took off fast... a little too fast and I didn't have any direction for my channel and content I was making and it felt odd. The paralysis you spoke of is exactly what I felt. I couldn't live up to my own hype. Starting my new channel has opened my eyes to the true joy of being able to create and speak my mind. I can come to terms with what I had and didn't hold on to and now feel that "pressure". I used to create for my own enjoyment before I had a "viral" video, and then I created for that next big hit. Now I feel like I can create with no more of that "pressure" after realizing WHY we create. WHY I create. And that's because of enjoyment. Enjoy what you do and hold on to it. Be who you are and keep it real always. You are your own inspiration, being, and reason for what you do everyday. Your video helped me open my mind more to why I create content... to express myself. Thank you

So a friend of mine sent me this. And I'm in a weird position where I've been making videos for about a year, and I had one kind of blow up recently. I went from maybe 700 subs to almost 5000 over a few weeks. and you're right, I'm kind of paralyzed about what to do next, about how to make my next big video live up to the one that all those subscribers came from. there was a comfort in knowing that so few people were watching, in a way. There was less pressure about messing up. I'm honestly very glad that I had that year before I had something blow up though, because it's given me time to figure out what does and doesn't work, what I enjoy making/discussing. and I'm also glad it wasn't a "1 million views" blow up, because when you get your entire subscriber base off one piece, that piece becomes your identity to them. Most of them won't watch your other work, just that one. Like I'm pretty sure I'm already going to be dealing with that with whatever I wind up making next lol. Anyway, thanks for uploading this! It was a very well thought out discussion about something I don't think people discuss enough about the internet and fame.

I kind of feel like I stumbled into a smaller, more niche community of KZbin that has really reminded me of early 2010s KZbin and it's ... refreshing to see. And very nostalgic. Funnily enough I went to your KZbin channel to see which video of yours it was that "blew up" from YT algorithm and it was a video I did click on when it came out, about a topic I feel deeply engrained in me. Things "back then" were much greater than they are now, simply because those things were, well, simple. We're at a point of saturated internet I believe, individuals are shoved out of the way to host the biggest platforms. Things like Twitter, games like Roblox, and even platforms like KZbin.
@MecklesFrog
@MecklesFrog 3 ай бұрын
@@mustard9808 I like that last point a lot. Individuals these days only matter so much as they make a platform grow. KZbinrs matter (at least to the company) only so much as they can make the platform more desirable. Same with twitter, roblox, etc. Companies only care about the engagement and "line go up", so the individual creations and passions behind them don't really matter to them much. But it does feel like we're seeing somewhat of a cultural resurgence of like you said that sort 2010s internet, where people are gravitating more towards the humanity of works rather than just the "wow look at what the shiny tech made"
@mustard9808
@mustard9808 3 ай бұрын
@@MecklesFrog Nod nod. I hope more platforms are created for the smaller individuals as well, however difficult it may be. Congratulations on hitting the KZbin Algorithm, but try not to let it consume you with anxiety, although that is much easier said than done. So many good points in the video we're commenting on already. If you do truly want to keep an audience of the size you've got now, you'll find your thing over time. In the grand scheme of KZbin now, compared to then, 5,000 subscribers and possible viewers isn't as much as you'd think! It's all about what you enjoy. If you enjoy trying to hit KZbin algorithm and keeping an audience that, to you, is large, then you might have to cater content more. But if you truly loved whatever you were doing before regardless of viewer/like/subscriber counts then continue doing that. I wish you the best of luck in creating your videos.

@@mustard9808 I agree, it's hard tho, a newer social media site called CoHost that opted to not use metrics at all was a very user friendly and creator centric platform- and it's shutting down this year due to not being profitable. But thank you! TBH I don't think I'm going to chase it, that's never really been my goal. I want to make videos that I would watch, on subjects I find interesting, and if they happen to pop off, that's a cool bonus haha

I love finding small channels like this, especially ones that talk about the struggles of being a small creator. My friends and I host a podcast and make other stuff on this channel but generally I'm the one uploading and editing the videos, and this is the kinda stuff I think about all the time. Like is it even worth it if only 10 - 30 people are listening? But then I think, if I had that many people in front of me interested in what we have to say I would feel pretty honored. It's that sort of thing that keeps me going despite not having many subs. Also making videos is just plain fun :)

Fax that’s how I like to think of it too, a lot of times even when a video blows up it’s like a small percentage of people that tuned in that subscribed and it can often feel like is my message even worth hearing if only a few people paid attention and the answer really is yes.

I run this channel as an offshoot and re-edit of my old YT channel, 3rio4alk, just to maintain my memories. I think when I first started, I wanted people to watch them. But now, I'm thinking of me in 10-20-30 years time, reminiscing, on all the fun times I had with my friends. Fuck it that it's an audience of one. It's my content, for me. It's cool. It's an expression I need to make. And you're totally right about everything you say here.

Hear, hear. Recording myself yapping on about various things as I play videogames (that I would play anyways on my own time) is a good way to destress and go through your own thoughts/daily activities. But really, I was personally leading a life of a social hermit where I could go for MONTHS without physically having a proper conversation with anyone, so I actually started to have issues pronouncing some words! (in my native language) I also didn't really use english in vocal form anywhere, so starting to stream speaking it fully was a great way to practice it and get back to regular speaking! And even after 4 years of barely gaining a proper following, switching mainly to record stuff after two years of streaming, I still keep doing it as a hobby! It's great. Hearing about this kind of stuff from channels that have been around for even longer definitely fortifies the idea of "being a small channel." Thanks for the reminder to not worry about it! 👏

there are many videos I've deleted that I regret doing so now, for almost 7 years my only viewer was myself and some friends I'd share my videos to, and some of them after a year or two of making them I delted cuz I thought they were bad. Now whenever I feel that way about a video I unlist or private it, becaus now I know that one day in the future I will look back at it and even if I gain nothing from the rewatch, it's still fun and interesting seeing who you were in the past and how much you've changed when I was young all I ever wanted was to be the most famous youtuber ever. Now I feel like I'm actually scared of fame, I love having such a small and close community of friends who I share my art and music with, and sure a part of me still wants the fame but not nearly as much, I just make stuff for the fun of making it now and I feel so much happier than I was when I was trying to chase trends and become the next Jacksepticeye or something

Love the video. I always make videos when no one is watching. I don’t care if it’s an hour or more. I don’t care about being consistent or not. I have a life too. I barely do live videos & shorts. I only get more views on shorts when bad stuff happens or I go explore. I look back at my old stuff, weird af but I did it. Some videos I deleted cuz I don’t like it, some too personal as it blows up for a few hate comments, some other videos deleted off my channel but downloaded & reuploaded to other channels to clean up. I have 3 channels that I use. 1 is Art documentation (boring AF). 2 is Art Vlog, video editing effects & expression with some art updates. 3 is my archives for reuploads & old dumb funny shit. My passionate hobby is Art that is like a voice & a song to fully express myself (since I was 4). I learned to edit videos since my best friend in high school do it. and now, allow me to do that very thing! i run two blog-journal things. i call them that because really they're just excuses for me to ramble about whatever. one is a daily comment series on yt where i leave a paragraph of text under a guy's daily video series. i try to never go below 1000 characters, which gets really hard whenever nothing of interest happens! the other one is off in an anarchy text site. essentially you can claim worlds there, so i claimed my own and i'm running a thingo there. it's currently private due to griefer attacks on worlds adjacent to mine. there, i talk for much longer, but much more rarely. i've been doing that one for 7 months now (entries have thinned out for a bit due to circumstances outside of my control but i'm reeling it back in). i get absolutely no readers on either one of those projects. maybe one or two on the former, but zero on the latter. i just do these things out of a joy for sharing things. i love sharing stuff that's within my area of interest. it's also a way to stick it to cringe culture by being unapologetically true to myself - i am cringe, hiding that would harm me, so i wear it on the sleeve. if i wanted to get big, i wouldn't be able to be myself. i'd have to sanitize what i write or say to make sure i don't look like a dork. i'd have to do several revisions of what i say or heavily editorialize it to make it 100% coherent and fluid. knowing other people have set standards for my work would be a limiting factor to my expression. that's what i do - i put my feelings into words and set them free. i don't care if i get very few people to read them, i just want to make sure that the people who do, get something out of it. weed out anybody else. writing things to myself isn't enough for me though. as i just said, i want people to get something out of it. i want my work to be publicly accessible so that others can see it. if i were writing in, say, a notepad document, i'd know that i'm the only person who'll ever see it. and that would also change the way i write. because why would i want to tell somebody something they already know? seems like a waste of time. that's why i want my stuff to be out there. it forces me to talk differently, and teaching stuff to somebody who is eager to learn -that'd be people who get something out of my work- is something i find to be infinitely valuable. i'd boil it down to this - i'd rather have fam than fans. i'd rather have 10 people who like what i do -whatever that may be-, and are willing to have a discussion with me over it, than have 10000 people have a look, nod, and scroll away. and right now, it seems like it's just me. let's have a positive outlook on things - that's 100% fam!

I’m very glad I never ended up deleting my old videos (mostly from knowing others regretted it) I just privated them instead But I so agree with you on this, and imo, views aren’t all that important, having one fan that cares is all that matters, because I’d rather have 1 thorough and dedicated view with positive feedback than 10000 views where everyone clicked off after 1 minute, making videos out of passion is just so much better, and easier when less people are watching Another point I’d like to mention, specifically in the case of the DreamSMP is that sometimes standards or pressure can get so overwhelming that charm can be lost in favour of scripting videos that don’t need to be scripted, in order to keep the viewer hooked up. This is always imo, just a short term method that is met with a loss in actual quality and passion That kind of pressure when it gets to the point you sacrifice a genuine feeling and fun in the content is another reason I don’t have the desire to get lots of views, it’s just a downward spiral that I don’t need to get in. Even if I do get popular, I wanna try and do anything not to go down it

This video was recommended to me while I was stressing about it, i've been making youtube videos for years with barely any views, likes or comments despite my subscriber count. But at least im proud of everything ive made along the years, the memories i've made, the way i expressed myself in those videos; its nice to look back and see how different you were back then. It is also good making content you want because one day it might go unexpectedly popular, and people similar to you will find you easier, which would be a good way to make friends

The end of the video hit home for me. My channel was always about gaming but I made some videos that were music-related and they are by far my most popular videos. I was afraid of posting gaming videos for a couple of years because every time I did, I lost subscribers. Eventually I said screw it, bit the bullet, and started making the gaming vids I preferred making. At first I got less views, and I lost hundreds of subscribers over a few months, but now I'm back in the green, making videos I want to make.

Great video. Very good points. Getting used to the platform, practicing, low sub/view counts are like going to a mirror just throwing something and seeing how it goes. It's fun. Speaking to yourself, practice. Same with writers cafe the writing platform or others it's like ah just throwing a story idea out. People getting used to the recording software or recording on a phone or how to speak, serious, silly, balance, whatever the case for natural or an impression. What ideas have at low subs, throwing any ideas, putting a spin on it or making it your own or it's too close to inspirations then trying to change it or be consistent. I respect small channels I enjoy watching them. Repetition, consistent, what's new but balanced. Or those that still are and people going oh no different content or people move away and are bored of the same content, that balance. To me 180s aren't ideal but spreading out in similar ways can. I went ok Minecraft you have mods, you have let's plays which can go either way of modloaders or themes, or balance of adventure and tech or whatever other content to show to people. Comparisons of different types of mods under a category framework so people have a look at different types all in 1 video, history retrospectives of mods that are long supported and how they iterate on themselves over the year like people do games graphics or entries and look back. Which was fun but also tedious to get them working on old versions sometimes or find content differences and viewers would want the files so easy dislikes unless sharing the files. Adventure maps to make/play yeah takes time. Modpack making/reviewing is pretty easy enough, or use with a let's play. Got tutorials, more analytical ones on different topics and maybe lean into other forms of things in other mediums to be analytical about. That's sort of what I did is spread it out different ways to use Minecraft but still being about mods or about Minecraft. Whether Java mostly but the odd Bedrock. Being neuritis also an angle I find. No sub/likes, no opinions, just information and people can make up their own mind. Besides a music app experimenting type approach as well different sample packs and different sound design. Not great but different enough. Working with a small audience. Depends on the impression people make. When come back. This channel I have is 100 subs. My 2nd did more and got into other spaces it's 2k but it was few hundreds and 1k then without even touching it 2k. But it was also what I was doing to seek out content ideas, out a spin in the space I was. I try different creative ideas and don't use analytics I just cover projects people don't see. I make a mix of different things. I still am in the space even without videos but am by wikis and forums. Expanding on things to be seen but make an impact, see what others do if someone else's work showcasing. Bridging gaps. Just working on whatever think is interesting then selling one's self too much and overly confident but just good enough or early on talking to yourself, a mic, whatever video setup equipment. The explosion of what people search for, get recommended, what trends, or not trends and just making the most of it. It can be a bit much when the early on can be sometimes more fun, lower expectations. What learnt over time. Not souch nostalgia either just making it a fun thing to do on the side. Like sharing art, a tv show/book. Instead of locals just anyone to see not even for validation either just to show it and see what happens. Like being on a forum just talking anything.

On one hand hitting 1,000 subs from putting lyrics to a video game song should have felt good, but knowing that was a one time thing and the speedpaints/animations I want to do get no attention is pretty disheartening. I've been experimenting on YT for a really long time, but animation has become something I'm passionate about. I know that if I got too much attention to quickly it would be overwhelming, even though I've been animating for a couple years now. "It's not about the numbers, just do things for yourself" is easier said then done, but if I can focus on making art I'm proud of, I can get validation from myself and not from numbers. Being able to look at a past project that still holds up is a lot more rewarding then something I didn't care about getting a bigger number on it.

Man KZbin's algorithm really is trash, this is an incredible video and it just got recommended to me when it's over 4 months old, let me add my two cents. I always appreciated small KZbinrs. It's kind of bizarre in a strange way, to have been around since the early days of KZbin, and to have been making videos for as long as I have, and yet to have consistently and persistently remained small and unknown. There was a time I wanted to be popular, but as the years progressed I came to be comfortable with my place on the site, making what I enjoyed for myself and sharing it regardless of whether it was watched or not. I enjoy seeing my old content, I'm not afraid of it and I don't hide it. I was who I was and am who I am, I don't pretend to be anyone else and I have always appreciated other creators who are authentic. I've taken great pleasure over the years in talking with other creators, sharing stories and content ideas. I've known people with as many as half a million subs and people with as few subs as, well...me, or even less. I say as long as a person is true to themselves and their passions they'll be alright, and it was never good to focus on the analytics, whether you're a small creator or a large one, it simply isn't good for your mental health at all. Also doing this for the money I think is probably not the way to go either. I get that people want to get compensation from their time and effort and sometimes holy shit do they deserve it, but once you bring money into the equation it really limits what you can do in a lot of ways, because you are chasing the algorithm and its requirements rather than simply making what you want to make how you want to make it. I've never done KZbin as anything but a hobby, and that lack of monetary incentive has allowed me to feel relaxed and free of expectations. I wish KZbin was not so harsh to small and upcoming creators, because I remember a time when they were the kinds of people who gave this website it's image, the one it still likes to parade around, as if it's still the same person it was 17 years ago. I'm so glad to see those people are still here, still persisting, doing what they love no matter what. Never let anything stop you from doing what you love.

I agree with this video, and for me. It's just fun to make videos, I also find it relaxing to edit literal hours of gaming footage and watch it slowly be chiseled into something digestible. This is extraordinarily relatable. I run a music channel and I still kinda want it to blow up and monetarily support me. I made a video that got 3 thousand views and insanely positive reception. I was genuinely scared on how to take it. heck I was partially relieved when the algorithm stopped recommending it. But I also was hooked. I wanted that explosion again. I made another video with a somewhat clickbaity title and it got 2.2k views but very salty reactions because of the title. I wanted the views, but I also felt disgusted at that video because I didn't want to deceive people. I didn't mean for deception to happen... but it did. May we all fail and not shrivel but understand how to improve. Thanks for this video man :)

Don’t worry about the subs, just make the kind of content you’d click on and enjoy watching if you were a random person who stumbled on your page and keep tweaking and improving things slightly, growing a KZbin channel is like growing a plant, in the beginning it’s like nothing is happening but you gotta keep giving it water/ action consistently and do the appropriate research on this specific plant/channel you’re tryna grow and what kind of “contents” it needs to be nourished, each video is like a different seed but all apart of one tree if that makes sense, some will grow fast, others only get attention 5 years into the future, sometimes that seed doesn’t grow and it’s an opportunity to learn why it didn’t work to increase your stats in knowing what works instead of it discouraging you. It’s not easy, nothing great is, but it is simple

The best argument about uploading videos is "kinda" unlimited storage. Just upload things you did and you like, time comes and people that like the same stuff will come and see it not. Then, if you feel like it, you can upgrade your content and it just becomes a circle

Well I think the solution to that could be to take an honest unbiased look at your content and imagine if you were some random person who came across your channel. Would you subscribe and tune in for the next video? What value would you get out of those videos? Why would you stay? What type of person are they? Idk what the answer is for your channel personally, just throwing out some ideas.

This is why I practically never delete my videos nowadays, but I really hate when people only watch one kind of videos (specifically, animated elevator videos) on my channel when I want to be a 'variety' channel where there's a little something for everyone, except my other videos get next-to-nothing compared to what they want to watch. (Also, why are you playing in Bedrock Edition? Java is superior in every way!)

I wished I played on Java, it for sure is superior, it’s because I don’t have a device that supports Java yet.

To whom it may concern dont worry about what people think of your content if you get big or blow up the people watch your content for you because they like what you provide and your niche. I make religious content I recieve hate comments but it doesnt matter I enjoy it just like you enjoy making your content whether its religious, art or gaming and eventually you can make money doing what you love.

You've expressed an idea Kurt Vonnegut shared responding to a letter from an elementary school class. Look up "Kurt Vonnegut - Make Your Soul Grow letter". I feel that you'll appreciate it given what you shared in this video.
