I started going to Highbury in 1952. We didn't have cover or screens, Much of the season, we didn't even have grass! But at least we could afford to go there. My season ticket in the East stand in the 70s was about £35. All 1st team, six cup matches plus the stiffs. The programme was a tanner.

Yeah, we can all reminisce, the last games at Highbury Stadium were around a tenner for Junior Gunners & the Cannon Club. Nowadays, the screens really shouldn't be a factor, that the fans or club consider necessary. The profit from the Club's sponsors, encourage the technological interventions & perpetuate a corporate "family friendly" nice experience.

very exciting news. Id prefer lowering the pitch and making the first tier a bit more steep and closer to the pitch. Keep the top as is with the open corners. They are a sight to behold in the afternoon sunset with the roof pillars in the background

Yes, I went to visit Tottenham Stadium, on New Year's day. The intimacy & atmosphere of the tour, is very enjoyable & feels like a vibe, which encourages fans to shout, sing & try to influence what happens on the grass. At the Emirates, the Matchday experience does feel more sanitary & soft.

Given the design and location I doubt you would be able to get more then 10k extra seats and thats being generous, the developments of both Ashburton triangle and all the flats on Queensland road means there is little space to add a further tier, lowering the pitch would help fill behind the goals, but that surely wouldn't give more then say 400-600 extra seats, gap filling around the tops where the current TVs are would definitely add a few extra thousand and probably be one of the best options, didnt the last expansion add just 800 seats? Is there not railway lines down both sides as well?

Yup, that's the reason the roof is a separate structure from the main stadium. If the roof was a structural element in the stadium itself we'd have to start from scratch, which in today's money is now in the billions as opposed to the hundreds of millions when we built it. It'll just come down to Highbury and Islington council, but as they approved an easily expandable design and it's next to the railway tracks shouldn't be an issue, not too many NIMBYs round that part of town. Loads of businesses that would benefit from higher footfall though.

Actually the original design was designed in the current way to maximise capacity in the tight footprint space the stadium had to be built on. It's not really possible to increase the capacity that much further in it's current setting, unless you go for a full rebuild from scratch and even then there's not enough space around the stadium to go beyond 70k. That's about the max the site can physically handle with all the health and safety regulations all venues need to adhere too. Any increase in capacity therefore will be modest, I don't see them spending billions on a rebuild just for a 10k increase.

I'm no expert but i understand that the lack of capacity at Holloway Road Station is an issue. How about building a new station/interchange behind the Ashburton Triangle flats? This could include platforms on the East Coast Main Line and the Northern City Line. The tunnels from Arsenal Station could be linked to this. The Victoria Line runs adjacent and could also be linked. This could replace Holloway Road and Drayton Park. Ambitious and expensive i know but the access from London, Hertfordshire and beyond would be much improved. And imagine an Arsenal Station on more lines, more subliminal advertising which was Herbert Chapman's vision when Gillespie Road Station was renamed.

Capacity increased to a minimum 75k.. go above that if possible. Need to then streamline access and expand transport links. Improve the food, but reduce wait times significantly otherwise it's pointless. We need more options, more bars and food stalls. It's also depressing in the concourse. Needs more colour, more lighting (specifically accent and coloured lighting). More life, more interaction options. A full circle screen would look amazing and be practical. I'd like to see our dressings rooms improved on also to bring in line with other clubs or even improved on. While we are there, make the away dressing rooms more boring. The stands themselves need standing areas and cupholders. We also need to be allowed to take beer into the stands again. Also the stewards need to calm down too. We also need more interactive screens around the pitch to get the crowd hyped . Put me on the board

Would be interesting to find out how many ballot applications there are for each game at the moment. Biggest issue to capacity increase will be getting away from the ground after games. With 60,000 people there's a huge bottle neck on Gillespie Rd. Arsenal station and Finsbury Pk station both struggle. Increase capacity to 80,000 and it'll be chaos in those areas.

Need to improve atmosphere - yeah it's alright if games going good but need more of the block25 atmosphere around stadium especially upper tier. Need to have away fans drowned out for that psychological boost especially when game is tight. The screens were replaced for the start of last season so it surprises me they would change them again unless it's a radical change, I'm pretty sure the lights have already been changed recently as well. all these changes seem to be things they said they were going to do 5 years ago and have already been completed. I'm not as excited as you are and that is due to our owners and their history as owners..sure they have invested a lot in the Los Angeles Rams and the surroundings (ie training facilities). On the other hand over at Arsenal Stan has not invested a penny into London Colney; a facility which has fallen behind our top 6 rivals not to mention the likes of Leicester City and even Bournemouth (with their soon to be open state of the art new facility). Another issue you didn't mention is the local Islington Council. They won't green light any of your suggestions until the transport out of the stadium is invested enough to deal with an increase capacity...Is Stan willing to invest potentially tens of millions on that?

​@@TheYNCnewsI don't think there'll ever be escalators at either Holloway Road or Arsenal. It's purely down to the way they've been built. The only way that'll happen is if they were both redesigned and closed down for at least a couple of years, which would not bode well for fans going the the match, especially as both stations are the closest to the stadium. Yes, there is Finsbury Park which can be a 10-15 minute walk depending on which route one takes when following the crowd. Then there's Highbury & Islington (there are escalators, but there's stairs to negotiate prior, which is problematic for mobility impaired people), that's a 10 minute walk from the stadium. The furthest station on the underground for access to the stadium is Caledonian Road (there's a reason why very few people use it for match going). The good thing about Holloway Road is that there are lifts, but again, there's stairs to negotiate before getting to them. But the issue with Holloway Road is that it closes before the match starts and is closed after the match finishes. I'm not too hot on Drayton Park, but I know it's pretty close to the stadium.

The stadium definitely needs an upgrade & we have been waiting for this for a while . Better standards of food & drinks . Need seats & better Wi-Fi reception inside the stadium. More Screens? I go to the Stadium to watch what happens on the pitch, I don't care about the greens. The distance from the pitch is not going to change either. Highbury Stadium will always be a superior pure footballing experience. Lowering the pitch height would be a step in the right direction, to improve the learning atmosphere & increase the passion of more local people.

needs to happen. Most games, even when shit was bad under latter Wenger and early Arteta, were sold out. It's harder now to get tickets than ever now Arteta has got things somewhat good. If the capacity can be increased to 70k plus, all the better. The clu can offer TfL to improve links around the local stations. No reason we cannot get a loan to cover it, since most likely any expansion itself would be financed by a loan.

Great vid Dan! The seats at the Emirates are embarrassing! Especially when you watch the build up to games on tv and see the rotting pink/brown seats that are supposed to be bright Arsenal red. (Don’t see this at any other cub) 60,000 was always a farce when we moved. What’s the point?! We were filling out old Wembley for champions league games then build a brand new home with an upgrade of 12000 seats🤦‍♂ was only gonna be a matter of time before we had a waiting list like the one we have and so many people not able to get to a game. My other gripe is the stupid amount of space behind the goals. Looks absolutely awful, again probably one of the worst grounds in the premier league for this and I’m yet to hear a decent explanation for it. So yes, get some seats in there straight away and get our fans closer to the pitch like old times. Emirates stadium should be an 80000 seater ground minimum with the new location and fan base!
