I'm really looking forward to all your videos on the Stark Varg. I'm scheduled for delivery in February 2024. I ride in very similar environments to you with perhaps a bit more higher speed sandy desert singletrack as well. Your comments on range and performance in enduro conditions will definitely be a deciding factor on moving forward with the purchase or not. I'll be happy with a realistic 25-35 mile range in enduro conditions.

It's important to remember that electric motors are not adversly affected by altitude like a gas engine is, as the air density gets thinner. A gas engine that puts out 40HP at sea level is nowhere near as strong at 10,000'. Since I ride over 9K' regularly, I will be excited to get the full power from each respective setting. Looking forward to getting my Stark delivery in a couple of months.

Just watch out for overheating, but this is a very cool application for high performance EV’s
@ih8momjokes1 Жыл бұрын
okay i can say the same thing for the negative affects of the cold temperature on a li ion battery which is far worse than the effects of altitude on a fuel injected motorcycle (which compensates btw thanks to an MAF sensor)
@Binford2500 Жыл бұрын
That’s true. N/A engines lose about 3% power per 1,000ft elevation. So about 30% reduction at 10k.
@MickH60 Жыл бұрын
@@ih8momjokes1 The cold temps don't effect performance, only run time and recharging on electric vehicles, and a MAF sensor can't restore lost power, it just helps it run well...Higher altitude = less air pressure = less oxygen = less fuel burning = less power.

These things have basically "end game" power, like, in 10 years, I doubt we will have more power, because the bikes will be even lighter. They also seem to have great range/amp hours now, which was surprising. Imagine in a few years if they start really taking off, and then suddenly there are chargers at most tracks? These things are already pretty practical today, but are gonna be wild at a certain inflection point.

The reason just 40hp feels so amazing on a bike like this is because an electric motor can provide same torque across the entire RPM range, and in this case, speed as well!... On a 250f, you need can only get 40hp at 20mph, 30mph, 40mph etc.. Each gear has only ONE rpm that gives you 40hp. That's the wonder of an electic bike!

I would like to know how it performs at SLOW speed, for instance when you have to stop and resume in the middle of a steeper slope with a wet root, or some loose material, etc. The problem I have with electric bikes without a clutch so far is their underwhelming performance in that kind of situation: they spin too easily, hard to control the traction.
@adskiygamer Жыл бұрын
Yeah, we need a proper hard enduro tests. Anyway, I don't think that it will perform good because control only on throttle isn't precise enough and isn't safe enough.
@notimetoexpIain Жыл бұрын
I wonder if having the handlebar mounted brake would help with that as a sort of reverse clutch thing
@JoshStreetDesign Жыл бұрын
You could literally crawl uphill at 1 mph with perfect stability on these. I have an Alta and it's the most controllable bike I've ever ridden among so many other things.
@adskiygamer Жыл бұрын
@@JoshStreetDesign I mean, you can't be precise with only throttle in some awkward situations in hard enduro when you are hanging on a handle bar or bike is trying to fly away. And another thing, I don't think you can get as much instant torque from 0 power to full gas open as when you preload your flywheel and drop the clutch. There is some kind of delay anyway if the motor is standing still.
@AbnormalWrench Жыл бұрын
I often ride a Zero FX in the dirt, which is 45 HP and I rarely get over 1/4 throttle honestly. 40hp is way overkill for most dirt biking. If that bike was street legal, I would definitely buy it.

Would be interesting to hear if you think you are are faster on this bike around a trail than your "normal" gas bike? I have just recently bought a used KTM freeride-E and I'm pretty certain that I'm faster on that bike on my home trail than my gas trail bike. The E-bike is much more agile and "flickier" than the gas dito in my opinion, especially in gnarly sections of the trail. Greetings from Sweden ( home of the Stark Varg).

@allanasp771 Great question! On the Varg, it seems like it'll depend on the terrain (for me, at least). Currently feeling more confident in the slow technical bits on my KTM 300 XC-W but when the trail opens up, the Varg just eats it up!
