Here is the problem: The general public can download an app and see YOU and the drone. This is law enforcement information. The general public should not have access for OBVIOUS reasons. Fix this and we’ll talk. The general public has assaulted me twice while doing professional road survey work for the State of California. I will not compromise my safety for FAA control. NFG This is the hill I will die on.

Too bad the FAA couldn't have done this without giving the location of the pilot/operator/ground station. I wish the Remote ID module would only transmit the s/n and location of the drone within the area. Then give law enforcement access to a data base so they could match the s/n's with the owners info. I think it's dangerous and irresponsible for the FAA to broadcast the real time location of the ground station/operator/pilot, etc. Because there are so many people out there that could use the info to attack, rob (or worse) the drone operators.

I insure my drone for that reason. Can’t tell you the number of men threatening to shoot down my FAA registered drone, that has RID and a tail number. First it will be an FAA issue, then possibly a Penal Law issue, and then tortious interference of business practice in civil litigation. That is why I have an FAA license (thank you Pilot Institute) and fly responsibly.

Don't worry. The FAA isn't running around with a scale to weigh your drone. Neither are the local cops. The FAA has no way to enforce its rules without the aid of law enforcement. Unless you post your illegal flights on social media. I haven't met a single cop that knows what RID is or how to see if you are in compliance.

Nobody should comply with this unless your a commercial operator even then id resist compliance. For those flying drones as recreation this is not something you should comply with at all. Do not fly in airspace around airports or vital infrastructure its that simple. Its nobody's business what you doing with your drone or where you are while flying it. All this regulation when at the end of the day pilots have killed more people in the ground and in the air in the last year than any drone has in 20 years so ask yourself why is this necessary at all. The FAA should focus on the areas they oversee with aircraft operators and mfg not waste time on drones. Everyone should be asking what's the real reason for these laws and rules and why is goverment and law enforcement exempt from these rules but we have to abide by them.

I am generally not an advocate of civil disobedience or violating the law, but this power grab will not accomplish what the FAA and DHS want. RID is not ADD B and will not integrate drones into the US airspace system. Furthermore, an individual intending to do harm using a drone will either use a legacy one without RID of build his own. Furthermore, for recreational pilots who do not hold a Part 107 liscense who own an old drone without RID, I suspect if you keep a low profile and you are not operating in an urban area you should be fine if you get my drift.

Technically you’re supposed to have 1 RID tied to each serial number. They’re stupid expensive still so in order to stay legal, you’re going to have to spend quite a bit. It would be nice if the FAA makes it mandatory for those people monitoring pilots on their phones to broadcast their location and ip address. This doesn't solve the problem but it would also make them worried about monitoring drones. We don't want them to know our location neither do they. It should add to our safety a little bit. The public needs to broadcast their location when using their phones to monitor pilots

So, this is also a way to keep people from optionally registering a drone that is not required to be registered. You'd think they'd like that having more data.
@JR-fs1xt
@JR-fs1xt Ай бұрын
This isn’t really that much of a problem because you need to be fairly close to the signal in order to receive the data. For instance the drone tag beacon only has a range of about 200ft. That means the signal is only detectable 200ft from the drone. So if you’re over 200ft in altitude no one will ever see it.

When I was really young, I got a little rc plane for my birthday because I was interested in aviation (forgot the exact model but it was a 3 channel beginner), this is what really got me into the hobby, I started to watch a lot of the flite test videos and about 4 years ago I built my own foamboard rc plane, I always wanted to fly it but never got the opportunity, school got in the way and I partially forgot about it until just a week or so ago when I dug the plane out of the garage. I'm a bit saddened to see the way the hobby has gone, now I have to comply with all of these regulations, just to see if the sucker flies at all. Thanks so much for these videos, without y'all and a friend (of whom informed me that these regulations existed in the first place) I would never have been able to figure all this stuff out on my own!

There has to be a way to convince DJI to make RID transmission selectable in the software. I just paid an extra $400 for the fly more combo. Now I have to buy either an RID module, or the bigger battery. The main reason I bought the Mini 3 over the Mini2se was because it was RID compatible. With a simple software "upgrade", none of that matters. I need the gov to stop spending my money for me!

I also bought the M3 and registered it. I have the standard battery and recently bought 2 of the larger batteries. Since the DJI upgrade no longer transmits RID with the standard battery, does that mean I can't use the standard battery? This should be a simple fix for DJI.

"license plate" ..no no it is not that at all. Sorry sir, but you need to stop using that as it is 100% incorrect. Does your vehicle license plate tell people far away from you where you are by transmission? No. Does it allow any random person to target you and know where you are while you're doing something? No. Does it allow people to simply be in the area and see all the vehicle license plates in the nearby parking lot? No. Does it give out information the public does not have access to? No. It is not a license plate. That is a terrible analogy.

@@PilotInstitute Yes and you've completely missed the point. Adding "digital" means jack all to the public at large. All they hear is license plate. Period. And what do they know about them? But our videos are not for the public at large. Nobody who is not into drones will watch something about Remote ID. I understand your point. And we have discussed the issues related to remote ID. On another note, the UAV Coach's TRUST is saying: "If you already have your FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate, you do not need to go through this training, unless you plan to fly under the recreational rules." I don't believe that to be accurate...🤔 Where does it say that a Part 107 Pilot needs TRUST to operate recreationally?🧐
@PilotInstitute
@PilotInstitute Ай бұрын
It’s actually correct. If you plan to fly under the recreational rules, 49 USC 44809, then you need TRUST. Part 107 certificate has no value under those rules. With that said, you can fly recreationally while following part 107 rules, which would not require TRUST. It all depends on which rules you decide to follow.
