AT LAST !!!!! Thank you to Mick & Trudie for showing Green Lanes. On visiting London people get drawn into the city/west end tourist traps, and end up leaving London complaining how expensive everything is. Not in Green Lanes you won't. As East Enders, we have been using Green Lanes every week for nearly 40yrs. It's 15-20mns drive, including traffic, from St Pauls/Square Mile business district and worth every bloody penny to eat out there and . From fresh daily hand made cakes/bread ( Bakers to use : Yasar Halim - Antepliler ) offering beautifully decorated & boxed fresh cream cakes for £3.50 each to even finding the Rare & Historic " Rum-Baba " doughnut, that sadly seems to have disappeared from English bakeries. Your spoilt for choice on where to eat dinner & the are a few "no go " restaurants you need to avoid, but as long as you avoid the ones near the train station and eat further up in the ones near/around Yasar Halim Bakers your be fine. Prices have gone up since Covid, but compared to me treating my visiting Canadian relatives to eating in Wagamama's costing 6 of us over £300 to all eating out along Green Lanes for less than £180, with doggy bags taken home because the was so much left over, you can enjoy a fantastic night cheaply & be reminded of how lovely the Turkish/people food are.

Lots of Turkish people in The Netherlands. They are very welcome immigrants and most of them very hard working entrepreneurs owning small businesses. Of course things like doner and lahmacun have become regular Dutch foods. The Turkish community seems to have managed to really intergrate in to the the country well, while keeping their own culture and identity alive.

Green lanes has been like this for years since the 70's - I grew up here and went to school with lots of Turkish kids - it goes from Harringay down to Newington Green and beyond down to Stoke Newington and Dalston. It was funny going to Turkey on Holiday and it feeling like Green Lanes but sunnier. Cant beat the food. Never forget the massive Watermelons and cake shops. Funnily enough there were less barbers in Haringey and most at the Newington Green end.

@@simko28 Turks have been in Anatolia for 1000 years and it is our country. This will not change. Turkish culture has been understanding of the traditions and identities of different nations throughout history. The Seljuks created a Turco-Persian state. Jews were expelled from Spain and took refuge in the Ottoman Empire. Also, while there were sectarian wars in Europe, Christians were more peaceful in our land. We knew how to adapt and were able to combine many different cultures and languages within ourselves. No nation has ever descended from the sky suddenly. Can you tell us the identity of those who lived here 10,000 years ago and built Göbeklitepe? Be assured, each person takes something from the others. This is the rule of the human history, accept it and stop crying.

As Cyprus was a British Colony from 1925 to 1960, Cypriots came to London from 1930's. Some are 4th generation Londoners. I have been here nearly 50 years. Turkish people from Turkiye started arriving many decades later, possibly late 1980's early 1990's.I enjoyed a few of your videos and subscribed. May be we will one day in person. Selamlar!!!

Hi Mick and Trudie, another great video from you. I'm from London and so I know Green Lanes well. When my daughter's father came over in 1994 he immediately started working there but after the first week he left and got a different job locally to us. The thing I find is that I prefer the kebabs in UK which are much better than the ones in Turkey. I have always said that. 😋

Visited Istanbul and the food was average yet in both London and in Hamburg it's very good. I agree with u about the kebabs in Istanbul(city of thieves) the portions are tiny whereas in N London they r huge

It depends where you eat, there are lots of bad kebabs, doners etc. around turkey but if you know where to eat, you would absolutely like it. Also shop owners in different countries alter their food for their customers, doesn't matter where you're. That can make you like more food in your country because it's close to your used taste. I was in Berlin last week, I nearly hated all Turkish food I tried that but probably Berliners likes it. About portions, sadly turkey's economy getting worse and food quality, portions are dropping down.

Hi, actually the kebabs in Turkey prepared for the Turkish tastes. We can eat sushi in istanbul but i couldnt eat in Japan. So the kebabs in London they are prepared for English taste.

A LARGE PERCENTAGE OF TURKISH AND GREEK PEOPLE STARTED IMMIGRATING TO LONDON, FROM CYPRUS BACK IN THE 1950'S AND 1960'S. DURING THE PAST 20 YEARS, MORE TURKS HAD ARRIVED IN LONDON, FROM TURKEY.

Nice video guys. Bye the way "salgam suyu" is not blackcurrant juice, It is beetroot juice. Since I retired and moved to Northern Ireland I miss having Turkish food. Watching this video made me homesick. I miss visiting Green Lanes.

Awesome... not far from me. You should have popped over to Dalston (Hackney). There's a very large Turkish community there as well. Lot's of shops and restaurants... a couple of big mosques as well 😊
