Just out of curiousity... What kind of firefighters aren't "truckies?" Like, when I encounter firefighters, they are all on the truck (or, you know, clearly rode the truck to get here and are now on the sidewalk/roof/whatever). Does the aid car not count? Is there a secret stash of backup firefighters who just hang out at the station? Is this "truckies" as opposed to wilderness firefighters, maybe?
@EyeKnowRaff6 ай бұрын
@@trioptimum9027 Truckies ride the ladder truck (often shorted to just 'truck'). A ladder truck is characterized as having a big ladder mounted to it (with or without a platform) in a mid or rear mount or as a tiller (the one with the guy steering in the cab on the back). They don't have their own water source or pump. If there is no mounted ladder it's probably called an engine (there are some ground ladders on it just not the big mounted type). Ladder truck companies (the term of the mouthbreating, ape like animals and apparatus collectively) are typically tasked with forced entry, ventilation, and technical rescue. Meanwhile, engine companies are typically tasked with interior fire attack, rescue, paramedic level care, and stealing your girl (or guy, no judgement). There are "brush trucks" which are usually heavy duty pickup trucks with some suppression equipment for wildland fires (characterized by the distinct lack of structures). Then there's wildland engines which are your typical engine but build to go off road. This is, of course, strictly about the US fire service as the European model scares most US firefighters. Europe just does things differently from the US. Does this make sense?

With regards to the health / emergency response stuff; there are absolutely incapacitating events, injuries and so on that could allow you to call for help but be immobilised. But that doesn't render a product like this dangerous or irresponsible. You're a free individual with agency and a right to choose what you do in your own private spaces and how you restrict access to those spaces. If you think the chance of an incapacitating medical emergency is a risk you personally don't want to take, don't use it. The way I see it, my home is protected to the degree that I personally can not break in without a lot of destruction and setting off all the alarms. Most people wouldn't leave their home insecure just because they might have a medical event; why would you with a hotel room? Myself, I'm pretty unhealthy and I do need to ensure someone can gain access in an emergency. I wouldn't use this without a careful risk / benefit assessment. That doesn't make it a bad product, it makes it unsuitable for me.

These look like fantastic tools that work very well. When you mentioned the anonymity / plausible deniability need it got me thinking, with a few design tweaks you could turn these into functional NATO-style watch straps. If someone used cordage like braided dyneema/microcord/paracord, it could be disguised and worn as a bracelet in plain sight. Hair ties or scrunchies could make a good potential disguise, and I imagine one could improvise such a device using athletic sweat bands, tourniquets, or even shoelaces and hoodie drawstrings if you use the right knots. Thanks Dev and for saying they will be there after the end of June.. I was really touched by this video… when are you coming over to the UK to see us! I am part of the LGBTQ+ community but it’s not something I push on my channel as I am more than that ‘gay camp lisping lockpicker” 😂 I am proud of who I am and wish everybody happy Pride Month, Stay Safe x

Hey Deviant! Is there a way to order these straps in Europe without paying atrocious shipping prices?
@compgeek6 ай бұрын
Any chance of better shipping rates to Australia? Shipping to here always seems to suck unless ordering in bulk, and I’d love to get one while the black is available to the public!

Very grateful to see they’ll be staying after pride. Too often I see really cool pride stuff, buy a few and then *even* more drops (like this) and I have to hope it either stays for a while longer while I gather up money or hope next year they have the same ones. Any plans for further pride themed stuff in other categories?

If there's a place for such gear, I'd be happy to design and create it

I am surprised people are not hand sewing there own. You could have all sorts of wacky fabric patterns.

Weird, I just searched for deviant plan, and there is a new vid! Nice

I think this is a place for cute pride flag patterns. As a queer person is the US (and subscriber to this channel) I'm always trying to get my loved ones to think about security. Offering these in fun colors means if I give these as a gift, I'm more confident they'll be used!

it's also just nice to have quality utility/security stuff that doesn't look like a boring tool, or a Tacticool Ribbed-For-His-Ego Military-Grade MAN Securer (Explosion Edition)

Hi Deviant, With all the traveling you do have you ever thought about getting a Privet Pilots license. There are a number of planes that are around the same price as a Honda Accord accept a plane go's much faster and in a straight line. You would be amazed off all the places you can go that you normally can't drive too. Oh and you don't have to check your bags you just have to make sure you keep them under the take off weight and your good.

I stayed in a hotel this weekend and woke up to a carbon monoxide leak. They evacuated the building. several people went to the hospital. It turns out that most states do not require hotels to have CO detectors. I bought a small travel one. Not all threats are human.

Wow that's scary. I never would think to travel with a small portable one but it makes sense I guess

Just curious - Do you ever travel to Ontario, Canada to give any of your talks, be a presenter at event's or maybe even teach from time to time? Me and my partner have always loved your videos. We both truly appreciate the genuineness you express, whenever you take time to share your life and thoughts online. Thank you for continuing to share your knowledge, opinions and the time you share with the rest of us online. Warmest Regards.

I get to T-Dot from time to time. There are some human rights events up there where tarah and I have spoken in the past. And my friend Rowan is up there with his family and I always want to meet up with them when I can.

i just think it's cringe when folk hawk stuff for sale and turn videos into requests for people to go shop on a web site

I can't find any source for the deadbolt strap, seems like that would be a thing for a guy that feels dirty naming the website. Open hardware ain't just for circuit boards and 3D prints, some of us do have sewing machines.

I know of the website of which he does not speak. I also have a friend I worry about that travels using motels. There has been several incidences of staff coming in the room during her sleeping and worst of all showering with the bathroom door opened.
