FYI, all the little kids' voices are played by Sam's (Scanlan) real life kids, including all the ones that died. I think there's only one exception so far. They voiced the little kids who died last season too.

9:20 "everybody knows that you get the chest" I feel like this was a deliberate Easter egg by the art department - in the tabletop campaign, Gilmore was bleeding out when the players arrived and Matt (the DM) was secretly rolling dice to see how long he survived. He later stated that if they had looked for loot first, Gilmore would have died before they could rescue him. But since they prioritized finding him, he barely survived.

Fun (sad) fact: Sam Riegel was present during 9/11 and watched the Towers come down. So it was a bit of a reference point when Scanlan (Sam’s character) said, “Oh sh!t, the Towers…”

You will definitely see growth from everyone, Scanlan included. You will need to remember that, as a D&D game, no one in this show has plot armor. Not even our main crew. As an example, Gilmore almost died. The group chose to abandon a search for stolen goods (from his shop) and stumble upon Gilmore dying. Matt, the guy running the game, has said that had they not chosen to look for Gilmore, he'd be dead.

One of the problems this series is going to have is that the game has stakes that raise the tension. You know that this character's life or death hangs on the roll of a die. So you can have a character die every episode in the game, and it is always tense, even if the resurrection always succeeds. But here, every time a character doesn't die, it makes death feel a little bit cheaper. "They're dead? No big deal, someone will heal them." So far they've done a good job of making those moments feel weighty. But I do worry that it will start to feel too much like "plot armor". Though when a permanent death does finally happen, it will be that much more shocking for it. (Unless it's Scanlan. 😜)

And I think, even if had _known_ that, he would _still_ have helped. 6:32 - *“Ye-he-hess! Let's go, Grog! You're not gonna stand a chance, but good try.”* This interaction was a pretty important one in the game. Travis (Grog) rolled to hit, announced a 19, and went on to roll for damage, when Matt stopped him: "19 misses." That brought the whole table up short for a moment, as the realisation sank in. For a 19 to miss, that mean that dragon had to have an Armour Class of _at least_ 20, possibly even more. In several years of adventuring as Vox Machina, they had never faced a creature with an AC that high. And now they were facing four of them at once. They were _way_ out of their league. 8:59 - *“Nobody cares that you're alive! Shut your face.”* You must have really enjoyed the next episode, when Osysa shut him down. 😁 17:57 - *“I love the artwork. The artwork's stunning.”* These are the so-called "Colour Scripts" for the episode. They are used by the final artists as reference for tones and lighting, and they're the reason why the lighting in this season is on a whole other level, compared to season 1.

I'm fascinated. I just started watching this video and now I'm solely watching because I don't think I've ever seen someone hate Scanlan. Get annoyed? Roll eyes? Need a break? All yes. But hate Scanlan? Never. As an aged-out real-life Scanlan, I think you get into that character because those are easy laughs and how you make everyone like you. He is whoever he needs to be to entertain people around him. I genuinely thought the only person who could hate Scanlan is Scanlan.

Never watched Critical Role, but I'm guessing 'Chroma Conclave' comes from chromatic dragons. In D&D, dragons are divided into chromatic dragons (black, red, white, etc), who are generally evil, and metallic dragons (gold, silver, bronze, etc) who are generally good.

Grog is a goliath, but you probably aren't going to hear them use that terminology in the show at all due to concerns on trade marks and copyrights, so the characters will typically only refer to him as being half-giant.

Some of the moments in this show have really good stream versions. Season two amps that up from season 1. Tusk love in season 1 was a reference to an ongoing inside joke where Matt the DM and Travis Willingham, Grog's player, would act like they were secretly having an affair.

​@@ShadowyFox_86... I mean it was an ongoing joke in campaign 2 because it's a smut book and Caleb decided that he was interested in books of ALL kinds even porn ones that are vaguely historical... So no, it wasn't an inside joke because of Matts and Travis's roleplay.. it was an inside joke because... haha porn book that they decided to buy with money...that's it. It's a pretty simple bit but one that was always great, IMO. Didn't get old. The first time they found it I don't think that Matt described the cover of the book in detail but it did eventually become a Fjord/Jester reference... If I remember correctly the original description of the cover art was just a random human woman with an orc man on the cover holding her in his arms... Which is pretty clearly a reference to normal bodice rippers of our world... And it eventually evolved into the cover we see in the show here. I know that there was plenty of fan art depicting a very similar cover and so it seems like the critical role people took those fanarts that they saw and made it into the actual canon cover of the book.... So yeah the original description was NOT of a blue-skinned woman and a half orc man... but it is now.

It is a copyright thing yeah, and unfortunately I use the 1 mic to record the both of us, for separate audio recordings on each I'd need to wear headphones which I blatantly refuse to do because I wear a headset for 8 hours a day when working 😭🤣 I know its not ideal but I was sick of my videos getting blocked

Fake Spoiler (or is it?): Grog discovers he has some dwarven ancestry and is really insecure about it for a while (he's very proud of how big he is). There's a whole character arc about embracing his inner dwarf and once he finally does, he grows a majestic beard.

Afeet, in this case! Brimscythe was a young adult, hence getting fooled by Scanlan's illusion. These are ancient - hence the truesight - but even an ancient red shouldn't be able to pull an Azula. Your guess regarding the little girl is wrong, and I look forward to the revelation... but the way things have progressed, I'm no longer sure we'll see it, this season. Regarding Scanlan, when the game was supposed to be just a oneshot for Liam's birthday, Sam asked what the worst race and class would be to play, and proceeded to roleplay the worst character he could be. But then, they kept playing, and then streaming... the party called themselves The Shits, before they had to rebrand for the internet, heh. Point is, Scanlan does grow as a character - there's a reason children keep changing his mind - and he has been clutch on numerous occasions, such as throwing The List into the acid.

A couple things I'll say that at least Scanlan passes the bar on... He's perfectly willing to take "No" for an answer, and he's no more flirty with girls than he is with guys. It's not a high bar to pass, but it is the bar that means I can at least not hate him. Because, while being overly sexual is not my favorite trait (and I could see it being an even less popular trait with ace people), I can accept it. I can't accept people who try to push their sexuality on others, once said others have expressed their disinclination, whether verbally or through body language/action. Additionally, I hear that Scanlan in the campaigns was considerably more rounded of a character than he was in season 1 of the show, just because of some of the character traits and interactions you got to see in the longer form of a D&D campaign. So, there is more to the character that the show can potentially delve into in the second season. Even if his sexual drive is still a definite part of who he is.

I don't get the hate on Scanlan, he's one of my favorites and seeing how 3 times in 8 minutes you said you want him to die is :( Also, if you like Pike's voice you should know that she voices the main character in Infinity Train for 2 seasons

I've mentioned this a couple of times but as a woman I've had my fair share of encounters with Scanlan's in my life and none of them were pleasant, so I'm not sorry that I seriously dislike the character. It does seem like the show is setting him up to have an interesting character arc this season tho so it will be interesting to see if they can turn me around on him. And yes I;ve heard this about Infinity Train, its defo a show I am aware of and MAY react to one day

Scanlan is a horndog, and that kind of guy isn't pleasant in real life. I'm glad that the story arcs build him to be something more than a cowardly horndog.
