i wasnt sure what to expect from the red wings since they havent drafted in the top 10 since 1991 so they are noobs at this kinda thing lmao but i have no idea what they were thinking with that pick, the kids highlight reel is all tip in goals, lots of scouts said he doesnt look like he creates anything offensively at all but more relies on others to, which as a center...is kind of the opposite of what you want...but hey, you guys are known for finding diamonds in the rough in drafts so maybe they see something i dont lol

Morgan Rielly missed playing the majority of his draft year due to injury. He dropped to 5. I remember watching that draft and how the TSN guys said had he been fully healthy, Rielly could have been picked higher than 5. I believe (and so do many amateur scouts) that hes the most talented Dman in the draft and hopefully he gets proper development.
@Flaris7 жыл бұрын
And Lou announces....that Hunter going to announce it! Then why doesn't Hunter just walk up first!? Everyone knows who you are Lou. Love the Liljegren pick. Just love it. There are risks sure, but yeah I think the mono was a big issue. Plus (some) of the Swedish teams he was on weren't very good. And bouncing around between teams isn't conducive to getting comfortable again after having the life sucked out of you by mono. We know that in terms of development it's not helpful to bounce a guy between leagues. Until proven otherwise, I choose to be hyped. Give him a healthy year in Sweden and he'll be showing why he should have gone so much higher. The other picks? We'll see. I tend to agree that size is almost a negative now for drafting. "Oh god he's big, he's gonna suck." I don't know the big guys we drafted are going to be good, I don't know they are going to suck. I do know the Leafs feel there is a balance to be found with roster building. That you need all sorts of players for a winning formula. They went out and got all sorts. Speedy and skilled D? Got it. Giants? Got them. Goalie? Got one. Mystery Russian pick? They went there. This was an interesting batch. But sadly we won't know how good or bad a draft this is....for a few years.

From what I've read, he made his season debut late last year (November) due to the mono, but he probably rushed back before he was full strength because 'DRAFT YEAR'! Honestly, never going to understand fans that grumble when players don't play due to 'flu-like symptoms' or mono. People can't even handle sitting at a desk job when they're sick with that, never mind playing in a high-energy pro-sports game!

liljegren had mono not a knee injury
@Patrick-th2ci7 жыл бұрын
Still, people assumed Esposito was only mediocre one season because he had a bad knee, but it messed up his development. A year of mediocre play and illness could have had an effect on Liljegren. I'm not saying it will, I'm just saying it can be compared to Esposito. Both fell for poor seasons, both had injury or illness related reasons as to why their seasons were poor, both might have been hampered from reaching their full potential because an important year for development was hurt by them playing not at 100%. We'll see what happens, but Esposito was an incredible player, as is Liljegren now. It can happen again, even if every detail isn't the exact same.

rbrucerye he makes a lot of bonehead plays I think he should be converted to a winger his offensive upside is insane and you can be less defensively responsible as a winger and have the freedom to push up it’s a shame as the leafs could use a defenseman but he could be a force as a winger and even be trade bate if he has a good AHL season as a winger to bring in a d man
