Spice and Wolf 2024 is paced identically to 2008 so far. Almost scene for scene, line for line, right down to making most of the same changes to the source material. Notably in this episode, the conversation between Holo and Lawrence as they flee through the streets was apparently exclusive to both anime adaptations!

Yeah some little things too, like in both adaptations, in episode 2, when Holo talks about the Church, they show the bell tower or whatever, in both adaptations. I was surprised by it. And I was wondering from the beginning what the successor to Hashiru, one of my favorite tracks from the 2008 adaptation, would be. I watched the first arc of the 2008 anime before watching the first episode of the remake, and bit of Hashiru can be heard at the end of episode 3, and then it's fully heard in the running scene in episode 4. When episode 3 aired, I heard the track at the end and was like "Oh, is that the successor to Hashiru perhaps? Sounds cool", and lo and behold, it is also used for the running scene in this episode! That confirmed that it is indeed Hashiru's successor (I miss its more dissonant and chaotic sound, but I really enjoy this one as well, Kevin Penkin really did cook). Sucks that it was muted due to copyright here, though. You can really tell this was made by the same director. Changed some things here and there (episode 1 is very different), but a lot is very similar, if not identical from a direction standpoint.

At some point, I really would love to see what your thoughts are on the English version of Spice and Wolf. (Trust me it's just so good to watch.)

Frankly, it would make much less sense if it _was_ a ruse. Think about it: The only person who should know that Lawrence's companion Holo is Holo the Wise Wolf is... well, Lawrence himself. Holo could conceivably be discovered if her ears and tail were seen, but she was being careful to hide them, so it would only make sense for anyone else to allude to her being the Wise Wolf if she was actually caught... In which case, her captors _wouldn't_ be bluffing when they sent that message. And personally, I find silence quite relaxing.

Such an emotional episode. Holo getting more attatched to Lawrence and then at the end is willing to give her life for Kraft. Even though it has just been 4 episodes it seems like the two of them have been travelling for months. The emotions that can be brought out through Voice Acting and animation is just chef's kiss. Also, in the LN Kraft doesn't go for a kiss there. Its so Holo can whisper in his ear what she told him during that scene. But, I honestly like the going for a kiss more because it feels more emotional between them. Like Propinquity (or however you spell it) being upped levels.

Milone trading company is already contracted with Lawrence. They stand to lose too by association if the church finds out. It’s in both partied best interest to see that the info doesn’t get out.

The OG was the weirdest show for how I felt about it. I remember exactly Holo... that's it no real story beats until its end and nothing about Lawerence stood out for me. But at the same time I think of it as an freezer burn style slow burn. creeps up on you and over takes you with all the build up.
