We had a fun time tapping maple trees, gathering sap and boiling it down to syrup. The evaporator is old fashioned and wood fired. We do some silly stuff, but there’s information too. This was something different so let me know what you think. -Devon

That was interesting. How much sap can you get from each tree and using your system, how do you know? Also, do you plug all the holes afterward?
@klinefarms4815
@klinefarms4815 3 жыл бұрын
That’s a good question! When figuring that we count taps not tree’s. Some tree’s have two or more taps on them. It also depends on the weather and season, how much a tap could produce each run. The run in this video we averaged 1.7 gallons of sap per tap. Last year for the whole season we averaged 1/5 of a gallon of syrup per tap. No we do not plug holes the tree heals itself on it’s own.

Sure. when we first started, we used to boil small batches in a turkey roaster in the driveway. Boil it down as much as you think then transfer the syrup into a pan and finish off on the stove. @klinefarms4815
@klinefarms4815 3 жыл бұрын
It can if a tree is tapped to young or has to many taps put on in a season. Making maple syrup goes back to Native Americans and if done right won’t harm the tree’s life span.
@scouterandrew8888

It’s supposed to help if you drill north south east west every following year, then move to a higher level. When you return to the low level the tree should be and inch or so thicker and healed. 3/16 tubes also heal quicker than 5/16
@HomegrownPassion
@HomegrownPassion 3 жыл бұрын
No we definitely don’t want to do that. They follow good practices and make sure their taps are clean and they only tap trees that are big enough to heal themselves. There’s a guide on how many taps can go on a tree based on diameter and they stay on the conservative side.
