My first trip to Indy .. 1994- Pushrod Ilmor V8 Year and I was a Penske fan. I was in Turn 4 and felt like I was walking in between the raindrops. The crowd cheered.. to my dismay .. when Fittipaldi nailed the wall 60 yds from me - Scratch one pushrod car. Emmo was sponsored by the Florida Orange Growers and had drunken Orange Juice.. not Milk. In the winners circle the year before - Lol .. 1000s of fans were still hot about that- He'd broken tradition and was taking a schwacking. I remember the buzz about the pushrod engines.. People were claiming 240 mph down the front straght and that Emmo and Little Al were sandbagging. I am so fortunate for that to be my 1st 500 .. Unique year and the winners were my Team.

Wait, what? We don’t get to see the basement? 😆 I was at the inaugural US GP in 2000 at IMS, the highlight of being there was definitely the time we spent in the museum! I haven’t made it to a Indy 500 yet, but it’s on the bucket list.

Back in 1999 or so at a Virginia International Raceway historic race my daughter and I were walking about when I spotted a CART Reynard in Players colors. A Jacque Villeneuve car!? Two guys drinking beer were hanging back by the transporter and one, noticing my astonishment, said "go ahead and get in". So there I was in the car checking the shifter and roll bars like a 10 year old with a crowd gathering. He then said "Want to drive it?" YES! "GET OUT OF THERE" Laughs erupted lol

Well when I visit the track in 1999. One could sense the history; that there was more activity going on. Than what was happening that day at the track. Something else of note to me, is the night before, I drove down the street outside the front grandstands. In which you could hear noises coming from the inside like there was a race happening. So I would agree the place does seem like it is literally alive. Which I have been to a lot of different historical sites; that you get that same sense that there is activity still going on the premises. I would also add that when I went around the track on the tour bus. It actually felt like there was other cars around you. So the feel of the history does translate into the awareness of what has happened at the track. Due to the fact that some individuals are just open and especially sensitive. Of being more spiritual aware of what has taken place at a historical site like Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Especially after all the books I have readied; aside from watching the 500 on television since the late 70s.

Tony, I can only imagine the fond memories you must have from Indy. As I recall, Danica Patrick is the only female race car driver that ever did Daytona 500 and Indy 500, "Double Duty" thing.
@caprad2 жыл бұрын
Janet Guthrie ran both races.
@jessallen77562 жыл бұрын
Double Duty refers ro running the Indy 500 and the Nascar Coca Cola 600, in the same day....John Andretti first did it in 1994, Robbie Gordon in 1997 and then Tony Stewart became the 3rd and last driver to do it in 1999...........One thing Tony Stewartnhas done that no other driver has ever done....Is finish in last place in both the Indy 500 and Daytona 500
@sergeantmasson36692 жыл бұрын

By the way is the phone booth that was located about 100 yards. From the back of the gift shop in turn one and two still there, or did it get removed? Because I purposely took a photo of it along with other items I found interesting. Like the old flag stand, the construction of the viewing tower in the infield on the front straightaway.

Ok Smoke, it's May again. And I am sure this question has been asked 100 times already it being the 15th of May. Your a team owner, and still racing. I have watched you race probably most of your career in open wheel and NASCAR. When will you race the 500? You've won the Brickyard 400, twice. No offense Smoke, if your still racing, I know, or at least believe, you would want to race Indy again, and in the 500. Add one more crowning achievement to a stellar racing career, or at least for your fans.

I've followed Tony since his early days. I've raced RC cars with him. I've been his fan ever since I heard of him, so I'm not a hater of any kind. I love the content of these videos. But I have a VERY hard time watching them because of his cameraman's technique. He moves the camera and "jitters" it around way too much. With all of the image stabilization tech in even the simplest cameras these days, it has to be an intended effect. I wish he would change it. As I said, I love the content though!
