@Jack _ The RAM issues came later, as Valve added more actual functionality to TF2, the game required more RAM than the 360 could have handled without substantial optimization. But this was much later, Valve had been saying they'd bring class updates to the XBox for a while, but ultimately canceled. A big reason for that was that the community for TF2 on XBox was dwindling more and more by that point, and Steam was starting to take off. TF2 was also an older game, and didn't require as high end a computer to run than it did at launch. But Microsoft's policy of charging developers for updates was a thing too, and that couldn't have helped. If I recall, they allowed a few small updates for free, after that they charged the developer. To "Ensure quality was maintained." I'm guessing that the size of a proposed console update to TF2 was considered too expensive to be worth it to Valve.

The Jimquisition is a really interesting stylistic beast. In many ways it’s still got the DNA of the ‘rant’ style reviews of the early 2010s (albeit better written). As the show’s gone on it has embraced a series of running goofs and an overall linguistic flourish that’s given it its character. However this episode has definitely shown more of a video essay leaning, in terms of its structure being deliberately delineated, a focus on contextualising the issue. But tonally it’s still very much the Jimquisition. I wonder if the Jimquisition as it goes on will be closer in tone to a more standard video essay? I don’t think so, but it’s interesting to see the evolution of the show.

I had a comment I was going to make that was pertinent to the episode's topic, but that Duckula theme song at the end has smacked me in the face with a sledgehammer made of nostalgia, so I'm off to watch the Duckula intro on youtube, which will of course lead me down a rabbit hole of other '90s cartoon intros, everything from Heathcliff and Beetlejuice, to Tiny Toon Adventures and DuckTales. So bye for now.

@Jacob Except then we come to stuff like Crash Team Racing. No-one forced us to buy the game with microtransaction bs in it. It didn't HAVE it in it, they added it post launch. Sure, you can be an apologist and say that stuff is mostly cosmetic, it doesn't matter...but it does. Because they've shown they'll do it for that, you think they won't do it for more noticeably awful stuff too? And now the "well, I just won't buy any games with it in" crowd has to turn into "how long after launch do I need to wait to know it won't have it in". For an industry trying hard to push preorders, they are shooting themselves in the fucking foot.

I've always had this feeling in my gut that Microsoft didn't really understand players and the concept of being a platform holder throughout the years. Sure, it might have been slightly biased by the fact I was born and raised on Sony and Nintendo consoles ever since the day my cousin gave me his old NES with a Super Mario Bros and Duck Hunt double cartridge and I found a shiny new PS One under the Christmas tree the following year, but the Xbox always felt to me like a bland and uninteresting platform, with very few interesting games that seemed to just be happy and copy their rivals (I mean, Blinx the Time Sweeper tried to be Sonic when the world was kinda getting sick of Sonic). The last 7 years or so seemed to have proven me right - from the lackluster final years of the Xbox 360 where Microsoft seemed to be more interested in turning the console into yet another version of a cable box that just so happens to be able to play games to the sequence of disasters that was the Xbox One. And I swear to god, aside from a couple of launch commercials all the way back in 2013, I have never seen any advertising for Xbox One games or for the console, only seeing the console's logo at the end of unrelated third-party multi-platform title commercials. It may seem like a small thing, but it really helps to give the feeling that Microsoft barely even knows they're platform holders and not just a company that just so happens to publish games on the console every once in a while.

The moment Microsoft lowered the toll booth arm on peer-to-peer connections and raised that paywall to separate customers that pay a monthly ransom for literally nothing from those that didn't, the industry was started down the road to perdition. Games as a Services, Micro-Transactions, Always-Online Single-Player Games, Season Passes & Incomplete Games gutted and sold back piecemeal to customers, and mobile phone business models infused into $60+ USD titles, can all be tied back to that moment in gaming history. Now, games are highly disposable, mostly homogenous and creatively stagnant, and consoles have become rental terminals that will eventually refuse to grant customers access to the games they paid a $60+ rental fee for. This is why I prefer retro games on emulators and pre-Xbox Live! games on older consoles. I'm done paying increasingly escalating costs to play the same handful of games I've been playing for the last 20+ years with new coats paint.

Actually I can't come up with anything Sony-related right now, but that's likely more because I don't care. I guess there was that time when they censored some anime boobs and weirdos didn't like it? idk. But PC is mixed too, these days. Weird elitists have convinced/scared everyone that you should never buy a prebuilt (and instead build your own with 2000$ parts) and Win 10 (also a Microsoft product, oddly enough...) is basically malware and most people don't know how to install and/or use old Windowses or Linux.... tl:dr; old good new bad

@Arbeta100005 жыл бұрын
Dyllyo Can't tell if that's sarcasm, a joke or w/e but I guess I'll go ahead and ruin it if it is by explaining anyways: Money is earned, cosmetics is what's bought. "earned" implies that the thing has to be worked for. Since you've already got the money if you intend on spending it on cosmetics, you're not actually working to earn the cosmetics. If you happen to be short on money, you're still not working to earn the cosmetics; You're working to earn the money. The language that they use (*earn* cosmetics by buying them with money) is very slimy. I'm sure the implications should be obvious there.
