That's why I prefer games in which the gameplay doesn't need grinding. Counter-Strike, Quake, Unreal Tournament, Xonotic, Warsow, Toxikk, Reflex Arena, Diabotical, various battle royales(not counting the ones where you need to grind for new classes), Tetris, roguelikes, etc. The gameplay is just there, ready for you to jump into a match and be equal to everyone else - no need to grind for hours a day to get the better cards, classes, weapon loadouts, and whatever new reason to grind that AAA companies can think of.

@@iwiffitthitotonacc4673 Alternatively some games have grind as an actual healthy part of the gameplay, such as grinding for better gear or rare skins in Borderlands or acquiring building and crafting supplies in Minecraft, without adding in a way to skip the grind through monetization, which in turn means it is balanced around player enjoyment, not player frustration (ex: meaning you have a 1/20 drop chance for an item in Borderlands and not 1/200).

There IS such a thing as objective and logical truths in societies. I'll point out some: FACT: Functional members of societies do not specifically target children with exploitative behavior and methods. FACT: Dysfunctional members of society specifically target children with exploitative behavior and methods. FACT: Prosocial behavior is characteristic of members of a functional society. FACT: Antisocial behavior is a characteristic of members of a dysfunctional society. FACT: Antisocial and dysfunctional behavior, especially that which is harmful and exploitative towards children, will not be tolerated by functional members of society. FACT: Some video game developers and publishers harm children by targeting them with exploitative game content. FACT: Some video game developers and individual employees of such games' publishers are antisocial and dysfunctional members of society whose disruptive presence and behavior, especially their exploitative, and therefore harmful, behavior towards children, will not be tolerated by functional members of society. Sound like anyone familiar?

I'm curious as to when criticism turned into toxicity. It sounds to me like a bogus "tech-connected" mentality word invention, just like a vast majority of all the other lame buzz words young people use all the time. Maybe that is just an opinion. However the question still stands; criticism is a word with a meaning and has existed for many years. What is the with the need to cover it up, the need to fear it and inflate it to a much more sinister concept?

That's not the actual problem. Ideally, think of it as this: Normal Price = Good Game at good pace, 20-30 hours of gameplay on main satisfying storyline. AND Higher Price = Almost the same good Game at faster pace, 7-10 hours gameplay, you would finish the story it in the same amount of days as a person who plays it normally, instead of never because you lack the time and motivation for it. The higher prices also causes more motivation because "you spent so much on it, you gotta at least finish it". So a normal person has the good game as it's desgined. A busy person has a "cheats enabled" rush version that satisfies them sufficiently, for a higher price as an option. See any problem with this, honestly? I know it's the opposite in the real world, but what about what I said?

Gabe Newell: "We think there is a fundamental misconception about piracy. Piracy is almost always a service problem and not a pricing problem," he said. "If a pirate offers a product anywhere in the world, 24 x 7, purchasable from the convenience of your personal computer, and the legal provider says the product is region-locked, will come to your country 3 months after the US release, and can only be purchased at a brick and mortar store, then the pirate's service is more valuable."

@@MetallicBlade software ownership is fine. The bit about "not owning your game" refers to you not owning the intellectual property that you are paying to access. So if you pay for a Mortal Kombat game or Mario, then you don't suddenly become the owner of Sub Zero or... Mario as properties. You absolutely have purchased a right to acess your copy of your game anytime you want to. This has not been tested in a higher court in USA but in other countries it has and the verdict was that you do have full rights over your copy of the game. If it ever gets contested in a higher court in USA then maybe the outcome will be the same. All this I learnt from a channel Jim once recommended on his channel.

@Jacob Obsidian made New Vegas and they were rushed way more than you're claiming Bethesda was. They still had at least 10 times the writing, role-playing, and world building of all Bethesda games post Morrowind. 76 doesn't suck because it was "rushed." It sucks because it's a shallow live service cash grab, so of course it was going to. Besides which, Bethesda has bungled the launch of that game in 10 different ways and had the audacity to add a $100 subscription when the game was barely playable as it was. They deserve all the hate they're getting. Honestly they deserve way more for dumbing down Elder Scrolls post Morrowind, but for whatever reason most people didn't see how shallow unmodded Skyrim was.

Kaboom Baby I wouldn’t even call them robots. It’s an algorithm, or series of algorithms. There’s nothing intelligent or predictable about them, and they don’t follow any form of strict rules or predictable patterns the way a standard, cold hearted automaton is portrayed as doing. Algorithms control WAY more than people realize (see the entire stock market) but the inherent issue with algorithms is that they are, by nature, unpredictable. The point of using algorithms is to take a lot of input, fiddle it about, and dump some new output. The problem is that algorithms are not something you can look at, and predict the outcome of. It’s not an equation, where you can ballpark the part after the equals sign. There will always be fringe outputs based on chance percentages and unlikely scenarios. Pricing algorithms do really weird stuff sometimes, like price used copies way higher than new copies, or randomly increase the sales price of an innocuous book by $12,000 dollars for a few hours. Because any parameter possible by the algorithm has the possibility of happening. Maybe KZbin never expected it to come across a channel and somehow interpret that channel as impersonating itself... because frankly, why would you ever expect that outcome? The problem isn’t that KZbin is being stupid and are actively allowing this stuff to happen. The problem is that using unpredictable algorithms to drop the guillotine at the first sign of any algorithmically perceived issue means you’re at the whim of obscure and unknowable outcomes, where weird shit like CGP impersonating himself will sometimes be an acceptable and rational conclusion for said algorithm. Instead of proactively approaching these issues by having the algorithm merely flag issues, and having a real live person verify the issue before action is taken, KZbin has implemented a reactive approach, where a person only steps in after someone has complained about the algorithm fucking up. And even then, I don’t always feel like every issue is checked by a real live person, I feel like it’s gotta be run through some algorithms again, and if they generally perceive the violation to be upheld, it never makes it to a real person’s queue. Like, at least with a robot, you have cold predictable outcomes. It’s programmed to do XYZ, and barring something obscure like floating point errors or incorrect coding, it is expected to just coldly and automatically perform XYZ. Algorithms aren’t even able to predict the outcome of other algorithms. They’re practically RNG at this point. They’re like the quantum mechanics of math. Their job is to weigh to importance of a set of variables and come to some final conclusion about what all those variables mean... but in actuality, they’re just taking a whole lot of numbers and assigning those numbers new numbers and then shuffling those numbers around based on some other set of numbers and then comparing those new numbers to these new numbers and depending on how close those numbers are, it comes with this other set of numbers that are each assigned to these various action outputs provided the ending output numbers meet or exceed the thresholds set for the actions to be taken. And all that whackiness is just what they do conceptually. What they actually do is probably fucking bonkers in comparison 🤣

@@R3adybreck I don't remember ESO getting "re-announced" like that (probably dependent on country tbh) but I do think the massive failure and poor reputation meant it had to be more than an advertising push, and they have delivered pretty well in the years since release - I played after they removed the essential subscription but before One Tamriel, then stopped, then played it again a bit more recently, and they have provided quite a lot of new places to visit and seemed like they do deliver enough to make the sub feel acceptable (but nobody seems at all convinced by the staggeringly expensive "timesaver" options, because jesus christ that's a lot, and your money gets SO little.) Mind you, I'm in England, where ESO dropped in price so hard and fast it's quite easy to feel benevolent about them providing so much for £15, and for some reason it's remained at something very close to $60 in America all these years later. Anyhow the fact they then took ESO's sub, which has years of context and content, which even if you're absolutely not on board with, it still has SOMETHING they can point at and say "this here, we added some new countries, pay us," and plonked it onto Fallout 76, where it means nothing and offers nothing, is fucking hilarious to me

If they've the backing to do so, they will also go out of their way to deliberately collapse/absorb their competition as fast as they can, whether buy buying them out, gutting their access to distribute products (Think Disney's and Epic's models), in the end the people that lose out the most are always the end line consumers. You can see this behavior in any region with a sole provider of electricity/internet services/insurance providers/ect. Anything that starts behaving like a utility has jack and shit right to be privatized any more due to this tendency.

@@salj.5459 Capitalism IDEALLY is supposed to work. You spend money on X product, the company that makes the product pays it's workers and reinvests the money into their company to give you a better product. A better product comes out and because it's of higher quality they charge a little more, but still have the old product available for those who don't want to/can't afford the better, more expensive one OR they only have more expensive AND better products because the company has reached a higher overall quality that requires more to maintain. But that's not what's happening. You give them money, they make little to no effort to maintain the quality of the product, but still want more of your money. Fallout 76 is a perfect example. Half the shit didn't work on launch, why the fuck do they think they should charge $100 a year. And now EVEN IN THE PREMIUM VERSION shit still doesn't work perfectly. The only thing worst than these greedy companies are the idiots who support them.
@ChlorideCull

Centuros Productions Can severely limit the damaging parts of capitalism by regulating the markets and organizing workers. I believe our "Nordic Model" is the most ethical way to do capitalism, even if it's not perfect. One day we might have robotic gay space communism, but I don't see that happening any time soon.

Here's a dystopian story: imagine living in a world where a home takes a few decades to pay off (utilities bring their own costs), a bottle of insulin costs $300 (and only $5 to synthesize), the high school grads required to pay a community college $2k+ a semester for a degree that pays less than $100k annually, where the working class is demanded to work 60 - 80 a week (sometimes 3 - 4 jobs) in order to raise a family, where a mother is required to go back to work in less than 6 weeks after child birth, where people would rather risk dying than paying for a trip to the emergency room, where we all keep saying "at least it wasn't me affected" or "it could always be worse." Now realize that dystopian story isn't just a story, but the world we live in. There's plenty more examples out there that I could've included, but the amount of time it would take for just a single comment that won't gain any traction doesn't warrant it.

There are a couple reasons I can think Jim's channel got canned. If he tried to upload a bunch of video's at once, due to a back log they probably thought it was spam. Or due to being pod cast they some times think it's duplicate video's as every one involved often uploads the same thing to their channels. There is also the very real possibility KZbin just doesn't like Jim. Sure he's a partner with protection and all that above and beyond his sub size. But he also doesn't run ads, so YT makes no money off of him. They can't touch his main channel, but they do their best to end him.

Unfortunately, it may very well be worth it. The whole "whale" thing is about making a ton of money off a few people. If they have fewer players, but those players pay more, then it might be worth alienating other portions of the audience. Now whether or not that's *sustainable*, that's another matter. Online-only games can actually make less money with more players. When a game finds a way to get rid of the players who spend no money on the game they achieve two things: 1) save money on server costs, 2) new players are now far more likely to encounter & chat with people who spend money on the game than they are with people who play it for free (or nothing after retail price) - so the idea of spending money in the game becomes more acceptable.
