You can put multiple portable miners on a single node. Powered miners, OTOH, occupy the whole node.

The giant creatures, like the tiny birds, are harmless. One of the creatures,, a pink-orange “lizard doggo,” can be tamed by feeding it a paleberry (the reddish berries you found). These creatures are skittish and will run away until tamed.
