It's like a romance out of 'Dynasty': the tough old prospector who struck it rich and his beautiful, strong-willed new wife - 40 years younger and with a mysterious background that's made her the target of vicious gossip. When a multi-millionaire Lang Hancock married his Philippines Rose it not only set tongues wagging, it raised eyebrows in the highest financial circles as the experts pondered the future of one of Australia's most important mining empires. The Hancocks couldn't care less about what people say and Rose Hancock curtly dismisses those who call her a 'gold-digger'. She is a woman, she says, who is born to a wealthy family and used to getting what she wants, as becomes clear when she takes Jana along for some clothes buying. Asked if Hancock allowed her a certain amount to spend, Rose replies: 'I couldn't really call it a budget. He asks me how much I need and I say 30, 40. That's thousands, of course.'. Rose urged Jana to accompany her to Paris in the family's jet for a proper shopping spree, but Jana simply didn't have the time.
