One of my favourite scenes in the show (though there are loads of favourites!). Rik and Vyvyan were just excellent when they fought together, and it was great that they both realised this and made Bottom too. Long live the comedy duo of Mayall and Edmondson! Plus; "Neil, your bedoom's on fire!" is just a classic. Poor Neil, the butt of every joke.

What the Young Ones nails so perfectly, albeit in a comedically exaggerated way, is the combined squalor and boredom of student life in the 80s. Their accommodation is tatty and filthy, they rarely go out and spent most of their time just sitting around doing nothing - this is exactly how it was!!

Always bugs me when people whine "I hate laugh tracks/canned laughter" Well that doesn't make sense because neither this or most British shows use that cheap tactic because MOST British shows are filmed in front of a Live Audience. IT Crowd is another show that some people assume uses a laugh track. Nope filmed in front of a studio audience also & the outdoor scenes there is a huge screen lowered for the audience to watch what happens on.
