Being aware of your surroundings and dangers doesn't mean you "deserve" to be a victim of crime; however, not putting yourself in danger is the first and most important part of self-defense. Don't make yourself an easier target. Even Navy SEALs work in pairs (swim buddy), so, no, don't go out alone if you can help it. You can study grappling for 20 years and it won't help you against $20 karambit. You can run marathons but it won't mean a thing if you're in shoes that don't allow you to run if the need arises. You can practice at the gun range twice a month but it won't help you if your gun is locked in the trunk of your car because you're in a "gun-free zone". Situational awareness, more than anything else, saves lives. In any physical confrontation, three things can happen: You lose and get hurt, you win and get hurt, or you win and escape injury. Two of those three are bad.

This is so powerful and moving. Thank you for this incredible piece. Thank you so very, very much. My empowerment mantra/affirmation: I refuse be a victim ever again. I will not live in fear. I will empower myself and others. I will protect myself and the people I love. I will not submit. I will not be put down. I will fight. I will be brave. I will defend myself and I will keep my dignity. I will never let them take that from me.

It's so strange that people sometimes say: "She's wearing this or that, therefore she's asking for it." Let me make this clear.. No one, I MEAN NO ONE dresses like: "Come and raip me!"
@elgus8717 жыл бұрын
It's never the victims fault and no one deserves to be assaulted in anyway. But nothing wrong with learning to defend yourself from people who don't respect that. My only issue here is the fact it's not just women who are assaulted (sexually or otherwise).

Most of you are really ignorant. The point is women shouldn't have to censor themselves and be worried about dressing a certain way. This is a major issue and shouldn't exist and by saying things like , "don't wear heels, don't wear tight clothes etc..." you are victim blaming. I know a lot of women that feel uncomfortable wearing dresses, skirts, heels etc... even in the day time because they are worried about being cat called, followed, or touched. By telling saying the solution is to feel insecure and scared is not solving the problem you solve the problem by empowering women.

I think this lays it on a bit thick, I agree its a good idea for people to atleast have a basic understanding of self defence for the practical reasons. But also the confidence that comes with self defence means a person is less likely to give off the signals that they are an easy target to potential attackers and abusers. I know from experience people will fuck with you if you appear vulnerable, simply appearing strong discourages this by a large %.

I have never heard any man say things like this outside of some feminist TV series and movies. Nobody says this and when they do their meaning is far different than what feminists want it to mean. Rational person: Why was she all alone wearing high heels in a dark alley at 3AM? What feminists hear: She deserved to be raped. I'm a big man and I sure as hell wouldn't go into a dark alley alone. Because I know the type of people that tend to hang out there and I know the potential risk. It would be stupid of me. Sometimes victims make stupid decisions that put themselves in harms way such as the alley scenario, any rational person would find their decision to be illogical and stupid. She knows the risks, she knows she can't run in heels, she knows she's alone, and she knows not to go into allies yet she did it anyway and something happened. The whole incident could have been avoided if she used some sense.
@lily-hazy88236 жыл бұрын
maybe it's cause you aren't a woman? Seriously. There are thousands of videos out there of women taking their attackers to court and getting put through a shit ton of questions that imply she was asking for it because of the way she dressed or what time she was out. Maybeeeee you just need to get out of your own bubble and realize people have different experiences than you.
@lacunax9636 жыл бұрын
Yeah of course I mean it's my fault when i choose to get an education and a job where i get home when it's already dark and the only opinion is to walk home alone. Of course it's my fault then. I should just stop wanting to get an education. Women don't need one anyway. It would have never happened when I didn't have to get home from university.😒

It's just a cheesy video to promote their BJJ franchises. Don't rely on this to save you from perverts. Buy pepper spray asap.
@thecheatedband20107 жыл бұрын
Pepper spray is horseshit. Yes it could be effective if you have enough time to take it out of your bag or purse or able to reach for it while putting down your groceries while someone lifts another to the air without noticing. You need to know how to escape if it comes to you without you noticing it. The only way pepper spray works is if the assailant is slow or you see him coming from a mile away to ready your spray or be paranoid and hold it in your hand and accidentally spray a cart attendant...(it happened to me while helping a customer).
@TheGroovyJones7 жыл бұрын
I kind of think the point of the video is that with the right education and practice daughters can defend and get out of those situations themselves.
@strategist-cr2he7 жыл бұрын
+Greg Cunningham You're clearly delusional. The BJJ guard seems almost perfect for defending against rape in the missionary position. Regardless, even if the rapist does not initiate such a position, he'll be wrestling and grappling, this is where BJJ is extremely useful. Of course, the problem is the size difference, so what? There will most usually be a size difference between the victim and the rapist, the victim stands a much better chance with BJJ than otherwise.

No, not their fault, but there will always be a dark side to humanity. It's the same reason you don't drive you're expensive car to a bad area and leave the windows down and the doors unlocked. It's still not wise for a woman to be alone at night, unaware of her surroundings, or having consumed too much alcohol to make good decisions. As you said, not their fault, but their responsibility to show up into the world prepared.
