Hey guys, just a heads up. I am seeing a lot of scam replies on comments on my channel. They are like 5 months behind on doing registrations but the funny part is they are not behind on cashing your check . My check was cashed within 4 days of me sending it in.

I know the feeling being a 15 year Air Force Flight Engineer and losing friends. Don't ever lose that fear of flying, some fear is great to keep you safe and from doing dumb things. I also did 5 years of flight testing and experience really matters. My test pilots had thousands of hours doing crazy test maneuvers. Flying untested equipment is dangerous and if you don't have the experience to make up for that it can be fatal. Keep being safe and pushing safety in your videos. I have seen you flying by in southern Idaho once.

Hey brother, thank you for making this video... But mainly thank you for getting out there and flying. It's what Tom would have wanted. Keep living, keep loving, keep flying. Being there sucked. I hated so much of it but I was thankful for the great people who were there as we all banded together. I'm with you on the competition side, I'm not the most competitive person, lots of others are. Hi Trent, That was a great heart felt video. I'm very sorry for the loss of your friend. There is an inherent danger to flying that is always there for anyone who flys. It's so easy to cross that line for many reasons. It could be trying something new or something a little more ahead of our skills trying to advance and grow as a pilot. Something could be as simple as taking off on a windy day that is outside our comfort level possibly wrecking our plane when attempting to land. We each must be cautious but a little adventures enjoying every moment we have. May he rest in peace. Take care, Be safe.

@amir.bayani2 жыл бұрын
Hey Brian, I’m pretty sure that you actually met Tom Defoe last year (or at least saw him). If you remember we did a STOL demonstration last year at Sterling county (Whiteside ) airport. Tom was the person on the ground that kept us from hitting each other 😁. I was blessed enough to spend time with Tom and his son Will (both incredible people). It is never easy when we see a plane crash and I always think of the family and friends impacted by that tragedy, but this one hit our community hard. Tom was one of the kindest humans I’ve ever known and he will be dearly missed. I’m in the same boat as Trent and starting to rethink the “why’s” … why am I doing a STOL Competition? Why do I want to land on this 100’ sand bar, etc. At the end of the day, no one cares. Our love for aviation and our love for back country flying and the freedom to do what we do is truly what matters. Be careful out there folks.

I just moved to Idaho and I can't wait to go check out the backcountry up here (safely) based on several of the stops you and the boys have documented.

I don't want to minimize what happened but there's risks in everything we do. Nobody is perfect and one moment of distraction can mean a stall/spin, or running a red light. Hindsight is always 20-20. STOL competitions are probably dangerous events. So is Skiing, or riding a dirt bike... These things make up experiences in life that gives you variety and makes life fun and meaningful. I didn't know Tom but I'm sure he would rather have lived life's experiences and gone out with his boots on, than sit at home in a bubble wrapped world afraid that something bad was going to happen.

Trent, not sure if you will actually read this I hardly ever comment on KZbin but I felt compelled to for some reason after watching videos of Tom this morning. I am a 36yr old father of two who works with a telecommunications company full time, I come from a family of pilots. I grew up sitting on a cushion my dad had made for the back seat of his Shinn varga 2150a so I could sit in the back seat and see above his head and fly the pattern. My uncle and grandfather were crop duster, forestry service, and airline pilots, so I have always had a passion for aviation. Unfortunately because of my financial situation all I can do is dream of getting my license one day. Watching all you guys doing the backcountry flying really keeps my dream alive, I follow all of the flying cowboys , I absolutely love you guys. The passion for flying, integrity when you or someone else makes a mistake, and just the overall attitude of everyone in your flying community makes fans like me seriously look up to all of you, I feel like I know all of you personally. When an accident like this happens know that it really hits home for all of the fans also, you guys keep that spark alive in some of us that live our aviation dreams through watching on KZbin. Tom will always be up there flying with you guys, do not let his passing deter you from what you love, learn from it and become a better pilot for it because that is what he would want you to do. From what I know of Tom was an extraordinary father, husband, and pilot and his loss will definitely leave a void that can never be filled. Stay safe up there, hope to meet all of you in person one day, blue skies and tailwinds brother!

Sorry for your loss, Trent. I can tell this was a big loss for the aviation community. I feel so bad for friends and family. It cuts deep, and seems like you'll never get past it, but things do get better, even though you'll never forget. R.I.P., Tom. I lost my best friend at age 26 to cancer. I still think about him just about every day. Was a devastating loss for everyone. He's the reason my wife and I are together! He set us up as he lay suffering worse than any human should. He was a true gift from God in my life, no question about it. I'm with you on this one. I don't blame the competition at all - this could've happened anywhere, realistically. I've always wanted to be in many forms of motorized competition, but money has always kept me out, just as it's keeping me out of fixed wing aviation. Thankfully for my sake there's paramotors! :) I have no desire to do any kind of competition on the paramotor - I'm content with just getting up there, straight and level! Anyway, I appreciate the vid, Trent - I know this wasn't an easy one to make, but I and many others are glad you did.

Whether we knew them or not. You’re doing a good thing by highlighting this and letting people know that it is, in fact, NOT a competition. Thanks Trent as always for the video. I'm a keen motorcyclist and have been for over 40 years. I've owned and ridden many different types of bike over this time. Over the last two or three years something has changed though. I'm getting older, more risk-averse and my current bike is neither fast nor powerful. Gone is the need to nail the next apex, stitch a series of sweeping bends together keeping a high speed throughout. I've slowed down, a lot. But, the upshot of this has been that I enjoy the ride, the scenery and the true sense of freedom much more. Ironically, these things are what got me into motorcycling all those years ago. That in itself is so rewarding. It's still motorcycling but different and in many ways better.

Agreed Trent. Originally STOL competition was conducted by Alaska guides and air taxi pilots flying their working certificated aircraft (Super Cubs, etc.) in April and May during the time most of the backcoyntry strips were snow covered and the fishing and hunting hanen't started yet. A fun way to sharpen skills in the spring before the season started. To me watching a skilled pilot flying a mostly stock aircraft is more fun than a guy in a highly modified "STOL Expermental" that is not certificated and never hauls large loads into the backcountry.

You fly long enough and you bury friends. It's just the way this works. You honor them the best way you can, and you never forget.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful vision. The risk reward equation should always be in our ADM as PIC. I love the way you present your personal motivation to our recreational flying activities and hope many people moving into our sport will take a slow and careful look at how rewarding good behavior is for our future. You don’t have to be extreme to be great pilot.
