@@Limestone.1you don’t have a to watch this, or follow XR, or even comment. Just bear in mind you have been warned there will come a time when firstly food become probably 10 times more expensive than it is now due to scarcity then there I’ll be a time when there’s little or no food in the supermarkets. We already this year have a disturbed growing season due to the Jet Stream going it to a state called a frozen Rossby wave of 5 peaks and troughs where the UK is in a cold trough thus has cooler and wetter air like Iceland and has an exceptionally cool summer, we are already half way through summer. Scotland is only 3degrees C in summer. So don’t say you were not warned and don’t shoot the messenger.

We have a huge problem with climate change because it's us, the world's richest countries (rich off of colonial theft of resources) and the poorer countries (that we've stolen from) suffer the harshest climate change impacts. We need to ban the use of private jets. That would have a big impact. Also, individually we can all make a difference especially if we hold our organisations and companies to account.

@@FishAndChipsDude no and I don't think that's realistic. What we can do is try our best in however that looks in our lives. Obvs I'm not going round in a private jet - so my everyday carbon emissions reductions will look a lot different to the 1%, but if we all make changes it will impact our communities and the people around us will benefit too.

What do you mean colonial resources? There's this method of governance in the wealth of nations that you'd perhaps want to add to your equation. But yes the West does need to play a dominant role in GHG reductions and helping with climate impacts. The main thing we can do right now is diet change, are you Vegan?

Renewable energy will never replace fossil fuels. So economic degrowth on a large scale is the solution.
@jhunt5578
@jhunt5578 4 ай бұрын
That is one of the most uneducated takes I've heard. Renewables are already the cheapest form of energy. Solar, wind and batteries can and will replace fossil fuels not because they're better for the environment but because they're far cheaper and efficient. The idea of economic degrowth would be catastrophic for people livelihoods, not only that, it will not solve the problem. We need to draw down carbon, that requires energy and technology. Or tbf everyone could go Vegan and we'd be able to draw down a massive amount of carbon by returning a land mass the size of Africa to forest and woodlands. Are you Vegan? Because most people aren't willing to be, so we'll need PF foods like cultivated meat which will have a similar environmental impact. The IPCCs predictions on climate are sound, but their predictions on the growth of technology is embarrassingly bad, they've been wrong over and over again. Look into RethinkX. They are the ones who actually nailed the adoption of solar, and electric vehicles, and based on their models it is far from the end of the world.
@FishAndChipsDude
@FishAndChipsDude 4 ай бұрын
@jhunt5578 Please explain how solar, wind and batteries can and will replace fossil fuels. Some things to consider. Currently global energy sources are, 14% Renewables 1% Other 1% Biofuels 2% Solar 3% Wind 7% Hydro 4% Nuclear 23% Natural Gas 27% Coal 32% Oil Solar, wind and batteries are all about electricity. Electricity is about 20% of total global final consumption. Currently solar generates about 5% of global electricity and wind about 8%. Global energy consumption in 2050 will be 50% greater than in 2020.

@@mve6182 these temperatures (that last for months) have not been the norm (my mother grew up in ahvaz and these types of temperatures used to be more rare and only last several days not 6+ months). When did i say central iran? I visited both the northern areas and south and the rise in temperature was really apparent. People literally are dying i and my family have seen it happen in person. Use your brain what do you think happens when temperatures are above 47 degrees for 6+ months and you are homeless. My cousins said that for months their air conditioning barely even works because of how extreme the temperatures are. There have already been several heat related deaths in my family alone.

China is the world leader in solar manufacturing, wind turbine manufacturing, battery pack manufacturing, EV manufacturing and have committed to halving meat intake. In 2023 they deployed more renewables than the rest of the world combined, and half of their new vehicles sold are BEVs or PHEVs. On the contrary I think other countries ought to follow their lead. As for America Tesla an American company pioneered electric vehicles and have the best selling car in the world which is an EV beating engine cars. Tesla also pioneered software which can balance the grid on battery packs and solar farms which is being used to end gas peaker plants and coal plants. What have you done except point fingers? Are you even doing the minum by changing your diet.

Konstantin Kisin suggested that, unless the poor people of South America and Asia are motivated to prioritise climate change over their children's starvation, we won't fix this. As humans, that would suggest that we won't fix this as long we're hassling people in the UK about traffic and soupy Renaissance paintings.

Rich countries have caused the majority of climate change and are forcing other countries in africa to be economically liberalised for loans ect.. stop blaming the countries who have done the least. Capitalism (and its constant need for energy consumption/fossil fuel growth created the climate crisis).
