Please. Please. Please. Put it on the list!!! That dress looks like it would be perfect for mothers that are nursing or pumping. Take it from a mom that had to give up because there’s almost no clothes (that are in the right price range) that would allow the portable breast pumps to fit under. ❤❤❤

I hadn't even thought of the nursing access and it's so true! These adjustable clothes ideas are just so perfect for so many stages of life, without alterations! It's like clothing that's intended to be functional and practical 😂 crazy right?

Man, I hate that you had to give up pumping because of that. Just had my first baby and thankfully I own several button down shirts and dresses already or I'd be panicking. It's so hard to figure out what to wear!! How do you see this dress being breastfeeding friendly? I don't see that. I wouldn't want to unwrap the whole front panel just to access the milk zone 😂
@Misty_Murphy
@Misty_Murphy 9 ай бұрын
@@KHomestead with how the top completely opens, you can put a small tie on the sides under the sashes for when the dress is open so that you can easily feed the baby without being exposed. I’m a mom of three. The first one got breast feed for a month. The second three weeks. The third came 15 years later than the others and by that time there wasn’t clothes that would work for someone who is plus size without being almost completely exposed. I’m so glad that people like Charlie are putting things out that could really help.

Absolutely 'Yes, please!' for a tutorial. I alternate between wearing modern undergarments and wearing a corset under my dresses a few times a week as the mood strikes, so a highly adjustable dress like this would be perfection!

Yes for more tutorial-ish video! While I got almost everything, there are still things like how did you determine the length of the sash, did you just wrap yourself with measuring tape or was it happy accident that it's perfect length? And if you could try to make version with sleeves that would be cool, because I don't know where they should start and stop so they would actually look like sleeves.
@gettheetothestitchery
@gettheetothestitchery 9 ай бұрын
Yes to the wrapping myself with a measuring tape! Sometimes, I just use whatever amount of fabric I have left (and usually end up making them way too long) but on this one, I held the tape to my side seam, wrapped it around the back and to the front, added a bit for a knot, and then went off that measurement!

That dress is so freaking cute!!! 😍 I love the print and the colourway, and the fact that it's a woven fabric gives it extra polish making it look so professional! I think I prefer it when you just tied it on the back as it shows off that gorgeous front bodice. That said, having the option to tie it either way makes it look like two different dresses. Well done Charlie!

I am 63. When I was a kid, we laughed at the thought of 80-year-olds singing “I Can’t Get No Satisfaction” in their nursing homes. “No Way!” We thought. “Never gonna happen!” Well, guess what? The music of your youth is the music that stays with you for your entire life. Even in the nursing home. So, yes. Pokerface. Indeed.

Your comment about love songs, and what might happen to current songs in 50 years ago, reminded me of a comment made by a stand up comedian at a gig we went to see. Basically he was Staithes case that the time is coming when playing wartime songs in care homes isn't going to cut it anymore because the people in the homes weren't alive during the war, which led to him reflecting on what some of the songs might be playing when our generation (those of us born in the 70's), are in care homes. x

Good idea for a longer hem in the back, but man, that fabric is perfect for you - I thought it would be too dark but it's lovely and light and summery but with a bolero or shrug would make a great fall dress too. Although here in Joshua tree, it's 81 at noon, so what's with the sweater talk? LOL. Oh - I saw a video of a sewing room that had a wheeled cutting table the same height as her sewing table, but it would also go up against the wall for more space when needed for twirling. She put a cutting matt on it and I think a drawer for cutting implements. Just a thought.

To easily make a very narrow hem on a circle skirt, use double fold bias tape. Sew it on the skirt, right sides together , using the fold as your guide for the seam width. Turn the tape to the inside, press, and then top stitch to catch it. You can also press one of the folds open before beginning to allow you to have wider topstitching.

The dress looks very good on you. Spooflower is an interesting rabbit hole because some of the prints are just so stunning but the prices are a little high (and I say that coming from a country where fabric prices are really, really high as a rule) and the widths of their fabric are a little narrow to start with and even worse when you take into account the edges that aren’t printed. I rarely allow myself to be tempted.

At the beginning of the video she said it was 5 yards; then she said she had about 1 yard left over. And I can't remember if the added ruffle length was from that leftover yard, or already cut out. So you could probably get away with 4 yards if you want it above the knee... but she didn't mention the width of the fabric...
@gettheetothestitchery
@gettheetothestitchery 9 ай бұрын
That's correct - I did end up using 4 of the 5 yards! It was 60 inch wide fabric, but because it's the printed stuff from Spoonflower, it has a wide selvage, so a normal 4 yards would probably just be even easier to fit all the pieces on.

That dress is beautiful!!! I love the material it works for you so well. I’d love to see a pattern and more how you do the actual measurements. Sorry I need a pattern

Yes, please! another video with a tutorial. I just don't seem able to take measurements of myself and figure things out. You are amazeballs!! But with some actual fabric measurements from you, I might be able to make adjustments and make it work for me. I love this dress! Good call on no ruffle on the bottom (this time).

Love the material, it’s gorgeous! The dress is awesome, it is so cute, you should make a longer skirt version to compare.

Thanks for confirming my theory about how to do the ties I found interesting on some pattern I had no intention of purchasing. 👍

Split side dress!!! Also, wrangling sleeves onto a split side dress because I want a modest version for myself. Something with minimum half-bicep sleeves.

I would love to watch this again, or with more details, when I am actually awake. I am trying to wind down from a 22 hour in/out flying visit that my husband made for me from his job.
