Which way are your terraces facing? Are they toward the equator? We have similar slope on our place, but it faces north, away from the equator here. Love your garden, looks very nice.
@adrianbaker98045 жыл бұрын
The terraces face east (we in the southern hemisphere ) so they face the morning sun. The slope is around 15 degrees so we still get afternoon sun

Not sure why you don't plant a clover cover crop, so much of your soil is exposed. Here in the Tsitsikammas of south Africa we sow white and red clover and then plant our summer crops into the small clover coming up. Soil covered, erosion stopped, water retention is good and moist root systems ensure we have living moist and microorganism rich.

The soil is covered... with compost...it also keeps slugs at bay

For more info on the no-dig method I use watch Charles Dowdings channel. Which works great in zone 9. Maybe more suited to cooler climates

Living in Southern Tassie myself, its good to see what others are doing with their gardens. Will hopefully start our food forest journey next year when we move onto larger property.

What a pretty farm and shows all the hard work and constant care. I loved the climbing rose bush behind you in the beginning. I live on Florida's Gulf Coast (subtropical ) and am envious of all the raised beds and compost. Thanks for sharing .

Thanks for the video, it's a beautiful garden. Something to aspire to for me, I'm just getting started in Brisbane West. Great to see the kids out the getting involved and knowing where their food comes from. 👍👍

Great location and super garden. Love the avocados. It has been wet and cold here in the Huon and nice sunny days now and my garden is finally taking off. I have very rarely did except to plant bushes and trees. Love seeing how different the conditions are across our beautiful state.

Quick question - why do you have colored clothes pins on top of the protective netting going around the citrus? I live in zone 9 too and was wondering if it could be useful??

Is Tasmania free of possums and other animals (other than insects) that would normally devour an open garden like this?
@homesteading3 жыл бұрын
No, plenty of possums. A garden needs possum proof fencing...kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3Wmamuug955Zqc

How are you guys sourcing your avacados? I haven’t seen them for sale in tassie anyway. Are you guys growing from seed?
@homesteading5 жыл бұрын
Grafted trees are available for sale - most nurseries have them in autumn. I bought mine from Bunnings, I think Adrian bought some of his from Diggers, some local. But seedlings grown in place (not transplanted) seem to grow better, but of course it takes much longer to get fruit - and you don't know what it will be like when it comes!
@missza985 жыл бұрын
Ok awesome, I’m in spreyton so I’ll have to keep an eye out at Bunnings :)
