Can we also talk about how there is a lack of interactive activities?? Like- we only got one fun activity and not 2-4 different features to try out. And the rewards for doing the repeatable jousting race are not worth it as it doesn't even reward you with 75 to 100 jc shillings. I literally login on, bought a new grey friesian, finished my last day for the cerise unicorns lance, and logged off. It was horribly boring and disappointing- we cannot even joust other players for fun!

I found out that this was a new area rather than an event before it launched so I'm more chill about it. I think they're trying to do some game updates as the events have been causing trouble for some time. (It's why the word lag can have some players whimpering.) Honestly, while I'm not a huge fan of the lack of an event (and especially not the drip feeding style of updates for this area) I am happy that they're adding in things and making the game more lively. Before the Medieval fair, the Forgotten Fields were really well named as, despite some of the key story quests that happen there, most had forgotten they were a thing. I'm hoping this is a sign of things to come. That they'll add new places to the game, open up places they've mentioned before and give us new places to explore. I admit I'd rather have quests that give me more world building, but I still appreciate what we have now. If I could change and add things to the fair, I'd do the following: - Make it something Maya pulled together with the help of those running it. Something to help bring a little more money into the Dews Family farm to help make something of it like she's always dreamed. - Alex and Tincan in knight armor and jousting. The conversation they would have alone would be hilarious. - A representative from each house that you can find around the fair. Sort of like the horse club leaders you can find for the Bobcats, Bulldogs and Flying Foxes. These individuals could be old or new characters (there's that guy over at the Baroness' Race track who is always talking about how he was knighted. He'd be good) and they each have a quest for you to do once you've been knighted. You would need to raise your reputation with each of them (again, like the factions) to unlock wearable, specific jousting courses and even resolve disputes. The key difference is if you managed to max reputation with all four houses, they would pledge their allegiance to you and you would gain the title of Knight of Unity (or similar). This would give you a placard and a lance to decorate your stable with and you choose the design and colours of your personal lance. - This would also unlock the ability to joust with the faction leaders for a bit more fun. You could also gather them and a few others to race across the fields as a knight's charge. - I'd add in a horse trick show. Once a day you can perform tricks on your horse in front of a crowd. The better the tricks, the more points you have. This would also mean they can let that glitch players like to do where you seem to be standing on your horse. - As an update for later on, I'd add Ydris in who would get upset at you upstaging his circus. Result: You have to challenge him to tricks, a race, a joust and even a fight with Alex as your partner to get him to leave the fair alone. - Big Bonny producing wearable that are a combo of steampunk and medieval madness. - Convincing the other Soul Riders to join in the fair to help out Maya and Alex. It's only right since I think the birthday event is the only event where they all show up! How about you? Are there any quests or NPCs you would add to this event?

I love everything you just said. And I think you hit the nail on the head - IF I had gone into this knowing it was a fresh new area vs an event I think I would feel much better about it. I do think the area is really nice and I have been enjoying it for what it is. And while Star Stable didn't outright say it was an event, they also haven't denied it either, I think that's what had upset me the most is that they weren't transparent. Prime example, when for the update 2 weeks ago they wrote "While we won’t be having our usual birthday festival (did someone say medieval?!)" this makes it sound like they're swapping one time limited event for another. That's not the ONLY interpretation of course, but it's that kind of ambiguity that makes it extremely frustrating. I know you weren't looking for an explanation, I just needed somewhere to vent about it LOL. I do still think Star Stable needs time to figure out what they want to do with events. Maybe this next phase is more about developing the WHOLE world and not just a temporary part of it, and that's cool! (It would be really cool if they included Maya and had it be a story beat about bringing revenue to her farm like you suggested!) I just wish they could be honest about it, you know?

@@UrsulasRevenge That's completely understandable. When I saw the end of the Knight event in your vid, I understood why you were disappointed. It just felt so anticlimactic. A week's worth of work and you get a very nice lance at the end of it. But that's it. Yes you get the jumps at Jorvik Stables which are great fun, but that's still only the one addition. The whole thing feels underwhelming because there's so little to do. Yet they implied this was the replacement for their birthday event. I'm not happy about it either but I've reached the point where I just dropped my expectations for SSO. I play a lot of games and I know how awful the industry can be, especially when it comes to being honest. They call it marketing. Guys, call it what it is, you're lying to try and make something fun. But if you don't have much to give us and you need a little time to sort stuff out, tell us. Your core base won't mind. Remember when you did that one update that was bug fixes? From what I remember, players were a little sad there was no content but otherwise were happy you were getting things sorted out. We can but hope that they get the message and develop the world and it's story. I think they are planning with the build up to Garnok. Do you think they'll do something like a large scale map update as and when you complete the Garnok chapter? Like, battling it causes mass change to the landmass of Jorkvik?

@SlashSlashX it's not out of the question. They've both added areas to the map and removed areas of the map based on the events of the story. I prefer the former though. I do think we'll get a map expansion/update. Not sure if Ashland will tie into the story (feels like a stretch but I'm happy to be wrong!) or if they're hoping to wrap the story and extend the map after the fact. Only time will tell!

I think the usual birthday events were better, because we had things to do, like a quest line that was repeated to make the cake but i still liked it- I got falsely chat banned last week (some girl was harrassing my club) so im very salty about everything sso is doing

If you're playing in the US or Australia (I think...I'm not sure what other countries it rolled out to) you can report a player by clicking their name in chat. It's likely a player reported you and to be safe you got a temp ban. As hard as it is to not defend yourself or your friends in chat, it's better to just report and block problematic players.

I think the outrage is beacuse even though that event was recycled there was something to look forward to like redeemable clothes via tokens. I also have seen around people saying they liked the birthday beacuse even recycled there was more things to do.

@Sewerrat8official that is also totally fair. Halloween is just around the corner, too which also has redeemable clothes for tokens and the different races and activities. I know they were originally only planning on having 4 events (winter, spring, summer, fall) so maybe with birthday being too close to Halloween, one had to go. Not confirmed, just speculation. At this point I wish they could just tell us what decisions they've made and why (SSO please I'm begging for an extra event strategy blog post)

I totally understand your frustration, but a lot of people thought it was an event due to miscommunication. In my case, what I read in the official news posts was a bit vague and I misunderstood what was said (...instead of our USUAL Birthday festival (can you say medieval?!)) that one line made me think it was a temporary replacement event, which wasn't the case. They never said it was an event, but they never said it WASN'T either, ya know? That really was all :) For what it's worth, I do love the area and I think it's fun! Miscommunication just messed up our expectations is all

sorry for the spam but i wanted to share my thoughts on the event thing,, i feel like they're keeping a limited amount of major events like halloween, winter, etc but maybe they're looking to modernise the others like cloud kingdom which was super buggy and most players ended up not liking it,, them removing the birthday event isnt weird imo because it was strange to me to have an irl celebration for the game inside the game with the characters celebrating too it didnt make much sense so im kind of relieved,, as for the medieval area i do,t want to get my hopes up but them making so many new assets and more just for a tiny area is fishy to me and i feel like there might be more coming soon but again, let's not get our hopes up

I also think it was weird to have a meta event like Birthday in the game. Are the characters celebrating their simulation?? What is Star Stable to them? Maybe they reskin it as a Jorvik Discovery Day, minus the colonialism. That's why I like the prospect of Medieval as the Birthday Replacement, and partly why I'm disappointed it's not a true event. I kinda just don't know what to think anymore. Maybe next year we get more castles, but I'm not holding my breath. I just wish they communicated a bit better that it wasn't an EVENT-event. It feels like they left it ambiguous to avoid the backlash of removing another event. I just keep trying to tell myself I don't care anymore 😅

tbh i dont get why people are hating so much on this event or new area. it cute and honestly, we never /really/ got much from the birthday event and it was just kinda, there? the sweater this year is very cute though. i'm happy that the team has branched out to not having a september being a birthday month and instead doing something different but judging from how the community is, their unlikely to do this again. the community hates anything new and it shows. i think some players need to take a break from the game, as they start to see it like a chore and say the game is 'bad' and honestly? it isn't. like, we literally got new models!!! isnt that so cool? look how much they've modelled and added that'd new to the game ahhh!!!! its so exciting about something this little as the team can make so many cute new outfits :) and the new hairstyle is soooo cute although it looks a bit weird imo (i say, buying it) but yeah there wasnt alot of communication of the new area being permanent but im happy its staying around (esp since the jousting has been a tad difficult for me) but ok, this might sound weird but. why did the social media team decide to go through with their reels being from a ADULT tv show and isnt age appropriate at all. like i dont think thats the best idea, especially when the main npc is called sancho ya know the character from don quixote??? which could've been a much more fun and they'd be getting kids interested in stuff. like yeah maybe im a party pooper but its embarrassing that they didn't think outside the box and just went for that one adult tv show (theres so much more media they could reference come on people!!! your modelling/writing team even gave you a lead with one of the best literary classics out there!!!)

Give it a few months or wait until there's an event you want to play, they do bigger updates once every month or so. Whether some people think that was obvious or not is up for debate, I think they could have been clearer. That said, there's nothing to return to next year, because it's not a replacement for the birthday event. I WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree - if people are not enjoying the game, they NEED to take a break. The devs don't create what they do for individuals. If an update isn't for you, it ISN'T FOR YOU. It is for someone else and that is something everyone has to learn - they're not the only main character in life. Buying the game entitles you ✨nothing✨ but the game as it is.

But they have added stuff other than "horses and clothes" quests, all of valedale, interesting lore, updating the stables next week, new player models and changing of graphics and so on. Mmos are always changing, removing and retconning as it's a live service game that's constantly getting updated !!! Getting mad that their changing it is, kind of embarrassing... and in my opinion I do not think you'd like the mmorpg genre at all because it's a genre all about changing and constantly feeding their community updates. I'd also say that the weekly updates are such a double edged sword for sso as it gives them so many time restrictions and tbh I wish they would do monthly or updates every 3 months when they have more content to do !!! But yeah idk that's just my opinions and I'm sorry you can't enjoy sso to it's fullest

I disagree, though if there was a place you know of where it was clearly stated, I'd love to know. It was clear Birthday Festival wasn't happening this year, but my interpretation through all of the official news posts was that this was a temporary replacement event for this year only, despite the area being permanent. In hindsight I get that doesn't make sense, but the information we got was limited and vague. We truly only found out the specifics about EVERYTHING being permanent - not just the area - by sifting through Instagram comments.

@@109367 yes, I did read those articles, and I did see it was mentioned to be permanent from the start - that's not what I was disputing. I think its more of an interpretation issue on my part. They said "While we won’t be having our usual birthday festival (did someone say medieval?!)". From that, I inferred it was a replacement festival because I associated the two together. Understanding festivals are temporary and that this area was permanent was the connection I did not make. It doesn't seem like a farfetched idea that others maybe got to that conclusion, too. It they had removed "usual" I legit think that would have made it more obvious LOL. But you know, they also could have talked about their plan for events in the August blog post, or the July blog post, or really the June blog post when things started getting wonky. I'm still holding out for September's blog 🥲
