I've run a restaurant in Paris, and in the States. Staff was the biggest challenge in both places. This was a great interview and gave us all golden insight. Berliyn said something profound which was, leave your Western ideals at the airport. Ghana needs creative entrepreneurs who are willing to join forces with Ghanians, and not knights in shinning armor.

Thank you very much for such an enjoyable and above all, hugely insightful video on the principles of running a business in Ghana. I have relatives back home myself, and hope to run a small concern when I move back for good. A couple of the points were not new to me, but having all of these key points presented in a bite-size package really reinforced to me how important it is for us “returnees” to marry the best of both Ghanaian and Western approaches if we are to maximise our chances of business success.

Essentially if you have to run a business with our people you have to be hands-on. If she had run a Ghanaian restaurant in London she'd have to work alongside her staff as well. I suppose her challenge was moving from a 9 to 5 job to running her own business.

I’m actually happy that the diaspora is coming back to invest and help build a good system but what I’m not happy about is everyone wanting to do those investments in just Accra while Ghana has other beautiful regions to invest in. If we don’t tale care Accra will check choked because everyone would have to come to Accra inorder to get job which will be dangerous because there’ll be lot of pollution here,lot of crime here and other regions will keep getting poorer and poorer so please diasporas when you come invest in other regions too because the competition there will be less and you’ll make it even bigger there

Kwame...you’ve made a great point about potentially too many businesses in Accra but that’s not exactly true. Diasporans are setting up businesses in Cape Coast, Prampram, Tema, Takoradi, Kumasi and even in Northern Ghana. Watch Wode Maya and other KZbinrs.

kwame scratch...I doubt you’ve seen EVERY VIDEO on KZbin promoting business in Ghana and or for that matter Africa but I digress. Accra’s population is far higher than these other places and more people have money in Accra. I agree with you to some extent but it’s also up to the government to advertise to Diasporans to also look outside Accra for business opportunities.

@@dadoboye1536 you just don’t know how glued i am on KZbin,all KZbinrs trying to showcase African especially Ghana are doing well and trust me I’ve watched all wade maya’s video’s and he has some videos which are outside Accra but all those videos were about restaurants and resorts but have you seen him do a video on anybody building apartments in say kumasi,koforidua or anywhere else aside Accra,same goes to The Acheampongs,to vanesa kanbi etc,but count the countless videos of them doing videos of apartments in Accra,restaurants in Accra and what have you,so when i say every diasporas dream of investing in Ghana is mostly in Accra you have to get me,they should move to other regions and build apartments,world class hotels and more I don’t know if you get me
@dadoboye1536
@dadoboye1536 3 жыл бұрын

many Ghanaian grew up in family businesses and they are used to doing things on their own time. Same with farmers too. IF you bring that robotic "be-on-time" demand, it can get very frustrating. In Ghana or all over Africa, there is a clear belief that "the is always tomorrow". People clearly understand life and death. but in the west people stress over things a lot. so it's a hard adjustment dealing with people who approach things differently

Tim...let's be honest..When your guests talk about challenges in Ghana, you make facial expressions or comments as if it's unique only in that country...I'm an African and I've been wronged countless times working and running my business in Chicago by black Americans...Apart from that, I can talk all day about the work ethic, attitude, lack of professionalism etc etc about the people in the community my business happens to be in...From my years of experience, I've finally come to accept my people for who they are and generally take the good ones and work with them...If we continue with the "me vrs you" behavior, we will end up eating ourselves alive only for the "other" people to take our possessions...I hope you understand.. Stop rolling your eyes and concentrate on the positives..It only provokes the others...Fight fiercely to change things behind the scenes. That's how family work..
