The Netherlands have been in the doldrums this decade; however, they've finally come alive again this tournament. They are dangerous, but I don't think they're better than England. They can definitely beat us, though, and they do worry me. We went up a gear against Switzerland, and for the first time this Euros they looked like a cohesive unit as opposed to 11 men who'd never met each other before. It almost looks like England are hitting form at the tail end of the tournament, a slow-burner, so who knows what could happen.

I could tell you all this without the stats. Englands failing started 1970 Germany World Cup game 2-0 and started to piss around in the middle of the field, did this 3 times Germany got the ball and scored each time. Since then England have pissed around every single match.

The teams that win tournaments tend to get to the semis at least on a regular basis, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Brazil and Argentina. Our record in the modern era even as good as Croatia, Portugal, Netherlands or even Uruguay until recently. Why is it that Germany could crash out in the group stages in one tournament (Euro 2000) and get to the final in the next (World Cup 2002) despite needing a play off to qualify. Is it mentality, is it pedigree? Keep reaching at least the semis on a regular basis and surely you have to win a tournament sooner or later.

As Simon Jordan always says in 50 50 against a team that on paper we may lose to, we always come up short. If you look at the semi finalists it's probably who you would expect but swap Germany for England and that's a classic Euros semi final line up.

our international record is fooking horrendous considering the players we produce. something is very wrong. for me its the coaching and the preperation along with tactical nous, we have always fell short and never been the most professional nation.

England have never had a manager able to get best from their players. They have had some great squads but just can’t get it. I’m glad as I’m Scottish and can’t stand any English success but they do have a great squad just poorly organised.

That record of ENG v other Top 10 footballing countries is appalling. It used to explain itself when ENG had teams including Fenwick, Miles, Palmer, Phil Neville, Heskey, with a few great players mingled amongst. When you think how gallantly Robson's WC90 & Venables' EURO96 went out, just, in the semi's on PENS to the eventual champions, Germany, there was so much pride attached to them. The probably greatest on paper modern ENG teams, WC98 & WC06, both times had self destruct stupid sending offs, Beckham, then Rooney. To be down to ten men and KO'd by a top team, is pretty dam inevitiable. But under Kneelgate it's loss after loss to big teams, due to his tactics. Holland haven't looked great but have steadily improved, Spain have looked the best team from day 1, but there's a hope they might have peaked too early come the final. If Eng don't win it, I'd want Spain too, so a ENG-Spain final suits me just fine.
